July 7, 2018

I hope you had a fun Fourth of July week, and I hate to break this to you, but it’s about to come to a jarring halt on Monday.  Not merely because we all have to go back to work, but because on that day, President Trump will announce his pick to replace Justice Kennedy on the Supreme Court.  And I must warn you of what to expect from my expert, insider’s view.

Trump is about to nominate someone so terrifying, horrific and destructive to America that this person should not be allowed to appear in public spaces without being hounded back into seclusion by torch-wielding mobs, like villagers chasing Frankenstein’s monster in old black-and-white movies.  This person will be a radical, right-wing extremist whose views on various issues are so out of the mainstream that only 60 to 80 percent of Americans agree with them.  It will be a source of bafflement to the press how this outrageously unqualified pick was somehow able to rack up an impressive enough legal resume to earn the federal court confirmation votes of many of the same Senators who are currently quivering with outrage over the SCOTUS nomination.  This nominee might even unconscionably approve of the heartless and unconstitutional practice of ripping children from the arms of their illegal immigrant mothers and putting them into temporary foster homes, but not approve of the kindly and constitutional practice of ripping children from their mother’s wombs and putting them into dumpsters.

In fact, if you can think of any evil, vicious, cruel, insane act that would turn America into a racist, sexist, blighted Hellscape, from reinstituting slavery to putting immigrants into concentration camps to forcing women into breeding programs until America is like – what’s the name of that book again? – oh, right: “The Handmaid’s Tale”, then rest assured that this terrifying ghoul will be in favor of it.

And what is this horrible, awful, no good, very bad person’s name?

Beats me.  It really doesn’t matter.  Everything I wrote above has already been put into the form of press releases, and the DNC is just waiting for Trump to announce the name so it can be inserted before clicking on “Send.”

Commentary continues below advertisement

Is there any part of it that’s actually true?  Well, I did use the adjective “insane.”  I guess you could argue that whoever accepts the nomination, knowing the tsunami of slander that is about to ensue, might have to be just a little bit crazy.

Tennessee's Race for Governor - How much research did you do on Randy Boyd? I figure he will win because he has the most money and Tennessee has an open primary, so guess the Democrats will vote for him. So why would you help him out? He seems to veer from the conservative principles; like giving $250,000 to La Raza and a member of the Tennessee Thrives Coalition. I am sure none are perfect, but I plan to go with the outsider, Bill Lee.

It's interesting that you mention that "60 to 80%" of Americans will 'agree' with the views of the new proposed Supreme Court Justice because about 30% of the American population is Non-white i.e. black or Latino. I say this because I am part of the 'white, heterosexual majority' and I live in the South and I saw the struggle for minority rights for blacks, Latinos and, yes, homosexuals. I know this sounds like 'identity politics' but if you are talking about something less than 100% of the people than aren't you talking about 'identity politics' that identifies with the "60 to 80%"?

I totally agree with you, Governor. I have never seen such hate, viciousness, vindictiveness and absolutely no acceptance of an opinion unlike their own in so many people. This country has become so divided. Unfortunately, those of us on the right are nowhere near as loud as the left and I’m not sure why. We need to start speaking out loud and showing our pride in our country and our administration. Being silent or very quiet is a sure way for our beautiful country to turn in the wrong direction. We truly must take our country back.
We do not have to show the hateful ways of the extreme left. We do need to start expressing why we believe as we do and why those beliefs are best. So many on the right have become fearful of the reactions to our views and don’t want to experience the horrible treatment such as your wonderful daughter has received.
Sorry this is so long, but it felt wonderful to vent. Keep up the great work you do and please thank Sarah for being so strong and gracious at the same time.
    Thank you,
    Leslie Caron

This IS insanity! What can be done about the MSM and the unlawful, hateful, violent liberal left? The government officials who promote violence and harassment?! It just seems that they keep getting away with whatever they choose, there is never any recourse! I don’t get it! I sure hope it means some of these people can be voted out. I really hope people are paying attention. Is this the America people want? And to hear the left say Trump is causing the division. Bannon is causing division. McConnell is causing the division. They are completely divisive! Obama was divisive! People act like their puppets who follow them! It IS insanity!

Guv, I guess I'm confused about jurisprudence. Cases get to the Supreme Court because rulings are challenged at lower levels. Unless the rulings have a direct and important relationship to the ultimate law of the land, the lower court rulings are left to stand. When the Supremes accept a case, it is already contested, with vigorous and learned arguments either side. Should these foundational cases not have vigorous debate on each side of the subject? How is it justice if advocates are predominantly on one side of the issue. The current court has four Justices who will bend any ruling to preserve Rowe v Wade. Would it not make intellectual sense to have at least four Justices who can make a vigorous counter argument? I don't know Amy Barrett from a Bartlett pear but why should she be almost automatically rejected because she is as vigorous on her views as Ginsburg, Sotomayor, Kagan and Breyer are on theirs? What?? Oh, the court, even at the highest level, is political!?!
The Dims. knowing that they cannot stop Trump from appointing a conservative, are laying the foundation for the deification of "precedence". If that were so important and sacrosanct, Chief Justice Taney's Court would still have blacks declared noncitizens, the Dred Scott decision.
I guess that's what you call wanting to have it both ways

Planned Parenthood. What kind of name is that for a company, who's only family planning is the aborting, ripping out organs, brains, and tearing off limbs, then selling for a huge personal profit. The GOVERNMENT FUNDS THIS WITH OUR MONEY! This NEEDS TO STOP! Put planned Parenthood OUT OF BUSINESS!

When I was in the Navy we were told we represent the United States and should act accordingly. Popes have made it PERFECTLY CLEAR that Catholics have to be PROLIFE. I wish Catholics in the political spotlight would act more like that GOD gave us the 10 commandments and not 10 suggestions.

I am writing anonymously because I do not want to become a "target" of harassment. I also do not want to become a target of the IRS or any other government organization. Unfortunately, the new SCOTUS nominee will be targets of both. This is a big deal, and I am writing to raise awareness to it. The harassment that Maxine Waters encourages has been described as an effort to silence the voices of others. I feel this description falls far short of their true intent. They want their opposition to be unwilling to participate at all in the political process. Paul Manafort is living this out daily and showing us all the consequences of supporting the opposing political party. I do not know if Manafort is guilty of the charges brought against him, but one thing is clear--the DOJ had no interest in pressing charges against Manafort until he became involved with the Trump campaign. They dug up a 13 year old case to use against him. The manner of his arrest--breaking into his home at 6:00 a.m. while still in bed with his wife--is exemplary of the hostility levied against him for being a Trump supporter. One judge has already chastised DOJ officials citing these very facts. However, another has now sent him to jail without bail under charges of witness tampering. The are trying to get him to give them dirt on Trump. That is their only interest in Manafort. They are now after Micheal Cohen for the same reason. Now, they have violated the legal firewall of attorney-client privilege. The "Deep State" has sent the message to all Americans that you may suffer similar scrutiny and consequences if you support the wrong candidate. The left has shown that they are willing to make anyone's personal life untenable for simply being a member of the opposing party. Please raise awareness to the Manafort story. He is being assaulted by the DOJ. He could be guilty of the charges against him; we don't know. But that's not why he sits in jail today. They want Trump. But the additional consequence will be fewer donations to conservative candidates and fewer people willing to be actively involved in the campaign process. (I wrote this anonymously, but I realize that the NSA will be able to trace my remarks to my home. Isn't that heartwarming to know.)

If the GOP needs votes, why is Senator McCain allowed to abstain from voting on critical issues? He seems able to write book and memoirs, so why can't he participate in the job for which he is receiving compensation? Does the GOP not care if they don't have enough votes in the Senate to pass a bill? Any chance I'll get an answer to my question? I'll stayed tuned to your newsletter and show to see if you respond. Thanks.

When the Democrats enacted their 2016 Convention Platform, for the next four years, they must have expected to win. They should now be reminded that they would have appointed pro-abortion and liberal judges. They expected to easily do this.

They lost, but now will not work with the winners. (their platform also expected that both sides should work together) They want judges that are not conservative. I understand that they want to and are obstructing nominations on these basis. They do not believe in the rights of the unborn. What will they do to whoever is nominated for the Supreme Court?

From the Democratic 2016 Party Platform:
    “Appointing Judges
We will appoint judges who defend the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all, and will protect woman’s rights to safe and legal abortion, curb billionaires influence over elections because they understand Citizens United has fundamentally damaged our democracy and believe the Constitution protects not only the powerful, but also the disadvantaged and powerless.”

So they are now criticizing Republicans for executing the type of strategy that they had endorsed.
