Former Attorney General Eric Holder is angrily denying President Trump’s assertion that the FBI’s reputation is “in tatters” after its leaders politicized it under Obama. Holder tweeted that the FBI is “composed of the same dedicated men and women who have always worked there and who do a great, apolitical job. You’ll find integrity and honesty at FBI headquarters and not at 1600 Penn Ave right now.”
Two points: I think even Trump would agree that the dedicated men and women who have always worked there do a great, apolitical job. That’s why it must have been so frustrating and infuriating for them to have to work under a group of leaders who shredded their agency’s reputation by acting in such nakedly partisan ways.
Second, I hope you’ll excuse me if I refuse to accept a lecture on honesty and integrity from a man who was held in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas by investigators into the Fast and Furious operation, in which the ATF allowed hundreds of taxpayer-provided guns to fall into the hands of Mexican drug gangs who used them to commit countless crimes, kill at least 200 Mexicans and murder US Border Patrol Officer Brian Terry.
Furthermore, Mr. Holder, if you’re thinking of going on to tell us that a Trump underling lying about something that wasn’t a crime is the worst presidential scandal in history, then please climb down off your high horse and let me tell you about another one.
