Bias? Who knew

NPR Senior Editor Uri Berliner, who admittedly leans left, wrote a blistering article in the Free Press about how his own employer’s newsroom is (News bulletin coming!) biased to the left. He says when he reported at an editorial staff meeting that NPR’s newsroom had a “diversity problem” because it had 87 Democrats and zero Republicans, he was met with “profound indifference.” (This is because to Democrats, “diversity” means hiring people of all races and genders who agree with you 100%.)

Berliner says he often opposed the skewed and even false narratives spun by NPR on such topics as the COVID lab leak theory, Hunter Biden’s laptop, the 2016 Russia hoax, Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill that didn’t even mention the word “gay,” taking Adam Schiff seriously and other journalistic blunders. But he writes that “politics were blotting out the curiosity and independence that ought to have been driving our work.” There’s much more at the link.

Wait, so NPR is biased to the left? I’ll have to remember that the next time I listen. Which will probably be never.

No kidding, Church matters

Finally, self-proclaimed agnostic writer Derek Thompson, writing in the liberal magazine The Atlantic, has noticed that the drop in church-going and religious affiliation in America is having negative unintended consequences on society. Imagine that!

The Public Religion Research Institute recently reported that one-quarter of Americans now identify as “religiously unaffiliated.” That’s the only religious group showing growth, while tens of millions have stopped attending church.

Thompson examined this and concluded that the reduction of church attendance is contributing not only to a loss of connection with the divine, but also a loss of face-to-face socializing, a sense of community, and the instilling of values in children. It’s being replaced by a “digital life” built around technology like smartphones that is "disembodiedasynchronousshallowand solitary.”

Thompson writes, "I wonder if, in forgoing organized religion, an isolated country has discarded an old and proven source of ritual at a time when we most need it. It took decades for Americans to lose religion. It might take decades to understand the entirety of what we lost."

Or it might just take going back to church next Sunday and discovering that you once were lost, but now you’re found again.

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND…

The Biden White House can only deal with so much reality. So they’re escaping into Fantasyland again by proclaiming that the key to winning the November election is to go all-in on kowtowing to the extreme minority LGBTQ+++ movement.

Biden’s campaign manager boasted of him getting endorsements from an array of these alphabet activist groups, representing “more than 3.8 million members” and called them “a force to be reckoned with.” But obviously not reasoned with.

FYI: In the last presidential election, over 155 million votes were cast. So just keep doing what you’re doing, Joe!
