PA Supreme Court dismisses another lawsuit
Saturday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed a second lawsuit unrelated to the Trump campaign’s, both seeking to declare the changes to overturn the expanded mail-in voting because it violated the state’s constitution. This lawsuit was brought by Republican state Rep. Mike Kelly and others, who said this is not over and it will be appealed to the Supreme Court.
Interestingly, the Pennsylvania court didn’t deny the plaintiffs’ claims had merit. They dismissed it on procedural grounds, claiming that the suit was brought too late, after the vote had already been taken, and should have been brought when the mail-in voting rules were first changed. Trump attorney Jenna Ellis called that a “ridiculous political game,” saying that if they’d brought the lawsuit before the election, the court would have thrown it out on grounds that there had as yet been no injury in fact.
This kind of reasoning struck me as strangely familiar. Then I remembered where I’d heard it before…
A TIGHT RACE IN IOWA
Talk about tight races! In Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks held a 34-vote lead over Democrat Rita Hart. Following a recount, and in some places, a re-recount, Miller-Meeks has declared victory – by six votes! This is yet another seat won by a Republican woman and another flipped seat that used to be held by retiring Democrat Rep. Dave Loebsack.
But as we’ve long known, even as Democrats try to tell us that questioning the Presidential vote is insane and un-American, they still believe that they have never lost a “fair” election. So Hart’s campaign is considering legal options, with her campaign manager declaring, “We will closely review what the county and state boards do on Monday with an eye toward making sure all Iowa voices are fully and fairly heard.” They just have to find the seven people whose votes the Republicans viciously suppressed.
Don’t be surprised if they claim they have. It certainly happens in blue states. For instance, in New York District 22, Democrat Rep. Anthony Brindisi was trailing GOP challenger Claudia Tenney by 28,000 votes on election night. Mail-in votes tightened the race. And then, one Democrat judge stepped in and personally validated enough rejected ballots to put Brindisi ahead by 13 votes, and he declared victory. Let’s hope this gets appealed to a higher court, although whether it will do any good in New York is the big question.
CRACKS IN THE DEMOCRAT COALITION
For over four years now, all we’ve heard from the media about Donald Trump is what a terrible, awful, evil, lying, selfish, racist, wannabe dictator/literally Hitler he is. Most of us know that’s a pack of slanderous lies, because we actually pay attention to stories like this.
It’s been nothing but relentless negative assaults from day one, including his family (to their shame, not one women’s magazine has ever run a single cover story on First Lady Melania Trump in four years.) If anything, the screeching, biased assaults have actually intensified since Election Day. He’s not even supposed to have the basic legal right to challenge the vote that they defended Al Gore for in 2000.
In fact, the Democrats have become so invested in 24/7/365 rabid Trump-hating that some more clear-headed liberals are getting worried that it was the only thing holding the party together, and without it,their coalition will explode in acrimony. (I’m linking to Instapundit’s excerpt from the New Republic, but you can follow the link to the full article if you simply must give them the clicks):
This really isn’t new. Young people might not remember, but seething, mindless Bush hatred held their fractious coalition together for eight years, followed by eight years of mindless Obama worship, which was replaced by four years of mindless raging against their latest Satan, the Donald – even though he did many things they claim to support, like funding black colleges, passing sentencing reform, creating jobs and higher wages for lower income groups, and ending foreign wars.
If anything, the Dems are even more fractious than ever, with the AOC/Bernie socialists seeking to drive out the moderates; the various grievance groups having been encouraged to become more resentful, demanding and even violent because that’s useful when the Dems are out of power but dangerous when they’re in power; and all the Deep Staters, billionaires and political office chair-warmers who think they have a divine right to rule us forever and are trying desperately to keep all their angry malcontents corralled.
If they no longer have the Trump McGuffin to be the focus of their daily hatefests, the establishment will have to find someone else to demonize to keep the Party together. Who will it be? Mitch McConnell? Ted Cruz? Or, as some of the radical keyboard warriors are pushing, all Trump supporters? If Biden does become President, they’ll need to find a new boogeyman fast, before their furious factions have time to look around, think for a moment, and realize that what’s really holding them all down is each other.
NOW SHE WANTS TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS?!?
Sen. Kamala Harris sent out a tweet over the weekend, urging people to support small businesses. Which is great, except it rubbed some small business owners the wrong way. They reminded her that only a few months ago, she sent out a tweet urging people to donate to a fund to bail out rioters, arsonists and looters who were destroying small businesses. Others suggested that if Democrats really want to help small businesses, how about letting them re-open?
Hey, hold on there! Let’s not get drastic! Remember, if we’re going to bring back the Obama Administration, we also have to revive one of the guiding principles of the Party and the media during the pre-Trump era: “Talking about solving a problem is the same thing as actually doing something to solve it.”
COVID-19 UPDATES
COVID-19 Updates: Sunday was the first day of Advent and the beginning of the Christmas season. That means it’s also the beginning of liberals’ traditional war on Christmas, this year bolstered by the claim that their general Grinchiness is in the noble service of protecting us all from the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus, no matter how little common sense, scientific basis or real world effects their draconian edicts may carry.
Stephen Kruiser of PJ Media has a good morning briefing on this, on what we can expect and why it’s less about protecting health than it is about the left’s real passion: spreading misery, which “is the currency of modern American progressives.” As he says, if you think the attempts to cancel Thanksgiving were heavy-handed, wait till you see the scare tactics about Christmas: “Thanksgiving is about celebrating America, which liberals hate. Christmas is about religion, which liberals hate even more.”
