It’s interesting that someone who was fired from the FBI for lying-by-omission to investigators is now so forthcoming about the same overall issue; namely, the actions taken by him and his friends to get rid of Donald Trump, as a candidate and later as President. Former deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe is now singing like a canary about what he and his colleagues were doing behind the scenes to accomplish just that. Oh, but he’s not apologizing for overstepping his bounds and working to achieve Trump’s ouster in what might be –- and which has been, by me –- described as a “bloodless coup.” Just the opposite: he sounds just as self-aggrandizing as former FBI Director James Comey. They were all working to save America from someone who might have been in league with Russia or who was otherwise “unfit” for the Presidency.

McCabe’s sudden verboseness has mostly to do with the release of his book, called (are you ready for this?) “THE THREAT: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump.” Good grief, where to start? Someday, after all this shakes out, Trump is going to have to write a book called “THE REAL THREAT: How My Republican Colleagues and I Protected America from the FBI.” What is it about these top bureaucrats? We’ve known since July of 2016 that James Comey thought of himself as not just an FBI official but also as prosecutor, judge, and jury, and now we see his friends had the same inflated sense of self-importance.

A short clip from an interview McCabe did for 60 MINUTES airing this Sunday shows him admitting to ordering an obstruction of justice investigation into President Trump shortly after Comey was fired. We now get the story salted-and-peppered with McCabe’s dead-serious rationalizations.

Never mind that there was no actual evidence of any conspiracy between Trump and Russia. The firing of James Comey kicked the DOJ/FBI into high gear, including the most astonishing part of their schemings –- discussing secretly recording the President and the idea of conspiring with Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment and declare the President unfit for office and remove him. They considered this even though they knew that firing Comey was well within the President’s authority. Saying to Comey, “I hope you’ll be able to go easy on Mike Flynn –- he’s a good guy,” or words to that effect, is not obstruction. And after two exhaustive years, no link between Russia and Trump has been found.

Nevertheless, McCabe was concerned that he himself might be fired in an attempt to obstruct justice. (He was fired, all right, but not by Trump and not to obstruct justice; as we’ve known for a long time, he was fired for lying to investigators, keeping from them information about his knowledge of leaks from his department.) “I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground, in an indelible fashion,” he told CBS’s Scott Pelley. “That were I removed quickly, or reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace.”

Yes, McCabe was fired, justifiably so, but his fears about the Russia case being “vanished” by Trump were completely unfounded. The investigation goes on, unhampered. This is because Trump IS NOT obstructing justice.

In the clip of McCabe’s interview that was shown Thursday on CBS THIS MORNING, Scott Pelley says McCabe told him that deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein (who was acting in Jeff Sessions' stead, as Sessions had recused himself from all things related to Russia and the campaign) actually did tell officials that he wanted to secretly record Trump and recruit Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment. “McCabe in the...interview came up more than once and it was so serious that he took it to the lawyers at the FBI to discuss it,” Pelley reports.

It sounds as though this might very well have been the meeting referenced by Lisa Page in her text about “the insurance policy” talk in “Andy’s office.”

Rosenstein has denied the report. He also previously has said he was just joking. At this point, it sure doesn’t appear that he was joking --- just that this crew heading up the DOJ/FBI was in itself a joke.

A Justice Department spokesperson said, “As to the specific portions of this interview provided to the Department of Justice provided by 60 MINUTES in advance, the deputy Attorney General again rejects Mr. McCabe’s recitation of events as inaccurate and factually incorrect. The deputy Attorney General never authorized any recording that Mr. McCabe references. As the deputy Attorney General previously has stated, based on his personal dealings with the President, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment, nor was the DAG in a position to consider invoking the 25th Amendment.”

Let’s parse this statement. (Ah, the word “parse” takes me back to the Clinton days.) Keep in mind that if Rosenstein disagrees with even one word of McCabe’s story, he can reject the whole “recitation of events.” He’s also confining the denial to “specific portions of this interview,” not any other part of the interview, what Pelley says, or what might be in the book. Also, no one has accused Rosenstein of actually “authorizing” the recording --- they were just talking about it at the DOJ and in “Andy’s office” at the FBI. This statement does not deny the discussion of it. “Based on his personal dealings with the President”? What about Comey’s dealings with the President, or anyone else’s, or the President’s late-night tweets that might be conveniently interpreted by his enemies as paranoid? None of that is addressed.

Also, with the phrase “there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment,” we have to consider what the meaning of “is” is. (Sound familiar?) Maybe at the time, he thought there WAS. So this statement from the DOJ really doesn’t deny much at all.

The spokesperson also said McCabe didn’t speak to Comey about appointing a special counsel. Well, he wouldn’t have had to. It seems obvious that the desire to take this step would have gone without saying.

In the book, McCabe says Rosenstein claimed to have been ordered by Trump to write the memo authorizing Comey’s firing, and that he had subsequently “spiraled into rage and paranoia.” He describes Rosenstein as “glassy-eyed” and sleep deprived at that time. It seems to me that writing a memo outlining the reasons to fire Comey would have been very easy and actually kind of fun, and that one could do it and sleep quite soundly at night.

Tucker Carlson’s stunning interview on this subject with Jon Summers, former communications director for Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada (I know), shows just how scary the brain’s capacity for rationalization can be. Though Summers didn’t defend any specific participant in these “very serious conversations,” he did see the conversations as based on a constitutional safeguard against having “a President who is incapable of doing the job.”

Tucker said that’s not the same as having someone in office who’s doing things you don’t like. The amendment was created in response to JFK's assassination, to deal with crises such as a President suffering brain damage or Woodrow Wilson’s incapacitation by stroke and his wife stepping in to make official decisions for him. (Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz later agreed with Tucker on this, saying the 25th Amendment is for physical or psychiatric incapacitation, not for impeachable offenses. “Any Justice Department official who even mentioned the 25th Amendment in the context of President Trump has committed a grievous offense against the Constitution,” he said. He referred to any attempt to use this as “a despicable act of unconstitutional power-grabbing.")

But Summers said, “I don’t have a problem that they have these discussions. At the end of the day, they landed at ‘no.’” (NOTE: It’s worth watching the interview just to see Tucker’s face when he says that.) “And I think that’s the important thing to remember. So the system worked the way it was supposed to.” Summers said he didn’t think “it was the case at all” that they were doing it because they didn’t like the President’s policies –- he believes “there was a genuine concern about how Russia was involved in the 2016 election.”

Sorry, can’t buy it. These people knew from the start that the “Russia collusion” narrative was created by the FBI, with their fraudulent use of unverified oppo research paid for by Hillary’s campaign. Their intervention wasn’t motivated by “genuine concern” –- unless they’d become so unhinged by their Trump-hate that they started believing their own story. And Mr. Summers should know better than to believe it. If Hillary had become President and this kind of “bloodless coup” had been attempted, we might safely assume he’d have a BIG problem with it, even with her flagrant lawbreaking and obvious Russia ties. And everyone involved would already be under the jail, while Hillary skated.

I cannot believe that even a Democrat would try to defend this attempted coup. What both Tucker and his guest missed is that the 25th is to be invoked by the CABINET, not initiated by the FBI or DOJ. The FBI / DOJ should have absolutely no involvement with anything to do with the 25th amendment, it is simply not their role. That is why McCabe / Rosenstein trying to get cabinet members on board with this coup attempt is egregious misbehavior. It is not designed as a legal process or punishment, it is a Constitutional process designed to remove an incapacitated POTUS due to inability.

I beg to differ with you.... The Republicans did nothing to protect Trump and his connections from the FBI! People have been ruined. Ryan & McConnell had the power to due something to stop it and, of course, the gutless wonders... owned by the Chamber of Commerce... did nothing!

When the earlier rumor resurfaced that Rosenstein wanted to secretly record the President, the deputy A.G. denied it. He even managed to convince the President. Now, the chanel Pelly- McCabe-Rosenstein proves that Rosenstein lied. He will leave soon, after Mr. Burr takes the Department helm, but what about his record? A strong apology would be enough ? I wonder...

Why did Pres. Trump sign this awful bill? Why didn’t he sign the one VP Pence has in Dec.? Why not do a CR now? He signed a horrible omnibus bill last Jan. & now again? The Dems always win & are spending like crazy! Why a 1.9% raise for fed employees when they already make 17% more than private jobs? Nancy and Chuck won again. We are so tired of this & it makes us question Pres. Trump & those who advise him. We don’t want anymore of our tax money going to fed employees! Is he going to downsize gov or not? Are we being betrayed? Tired of working so hard to put more money in feds pockets & no wall to stop illegal immigrant welfare payments. We are gouged by both sides.

How can the FBI continue to exists? An organization that corrupt at the top will never regain the trust of the majority of the citizens. When the heads are that corrupt, the rot infects the body.

AOC has put forth a plan that she knows nothing about. In the late 60s in southern Wyoming the ranchers were having a coyote problem. They tried to get help from the Federal Fish & Game. The FF&G sent out a young lady with a PhD In coyote control from eastern university to talk the rachers out of shooting the coyotes. Her presentation explained the environment impact without coyotes, but the government’s solution was to trap the males and neuter them.

At that point a slightly inebriated rancher stood up said, “Mam, I don’t think you know what the hell is going on here. The coyotes ain’t fucking out sheep, they’re eatin em.” It was 20+ minutes before every one stopped laughing. This was just an instant when some left wing liberal was talking when they should be listening.

I don't believe that Pres. Trump's opponents in this scandal will ever receive justice under our law. They are and have always been above the law and thumb their noses at our Constitution and laws. What a country. DC insiders ONLY care about power and riches and power.

Governor: Another good article giving us facts and the rest of the story. McCabe, Comey, just like Obama suffering from a demented ideology and full of themselves and think that their plan would save the United States. When is the United States going to be saved from the likes of McCabe, Comey, Obama, Hillary, Lynch, Holder and a long list of others that are the real corrupt crooks, that just keep skating by and writing phony books or playing the total blame game against Trump. Trump has done more good for this country in two years that Obama ever did and thank God that this country dodged the likes of Hillary becoming President.

As you said, this truly is a "bloodless coup" and these players are still protecting Hillary and all deeply involved in treason. Our forefathers had insight into the dangerous results of treason- they hung those found guilty !!! What does our country do with treason now- so far nothing!!! Like many, still waiting to see if any of the above corrupt crooks pay the price. Sadly, because of the top ranking past (Obama ear) and present FBI, they have tarnished the image and integrity of that agency. Trust is easily destroyed and can take years to regain. I feel sorry for the dedicated FBI men and women who sadly reap the mistrust that their bosses have sown.

Maybe, just maybe more blind Americans will wake up to what has really been going on and went full speed ahead with his corrupt plans which included appointing lots of crooks and cronies to assist him in his ideology for this country, which was nothing less than trying to destroy this country.

McCabe is really somethin' isn't he? Man can openly admit he was planning a coup and come out and talk like it was a good idea. You speak of out of touch, I don't know wehre he's living but it sure is NOT in the US of A.

I listened to the whole thing (a bit too long for me to digest) in order to receive my “FREE” copy of the well-documented book, only to find I needed to spend $40.00 in order to get my “FREE” copy. As I contemplated what to do, I managed to clean se-out the window. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Not sure hooking it to our “hatred” for Hillary worked for me, either, as I have distrust for most things found on the internet, as well. I would have liked to have read your book & checked out some cures for myself. Like I said, not meant to be. Thanks for reading this.

This not on subject but I needed a way of getting you attention, Governor. I rely on your newsletters to get prospective on things of national importance. You have defended Christian Churches and been critical of Catholic sexual abuse, as well you should. But, dear Baptist minister, past, where is your outrage about the Baptist pastors and staff sexual abuse that apparently been going on for years, including the time your were active in the ministry. This is really disappointing and makes me wonder if you are being very selective just like the other media and commentators. I don’t belive I have ever taken you to task before, so please take this seriously. No doubt you knew many of those accused.

If anyone should be removed for psychiatric reasons, they were. the FBI AND the DOJ top management are delusional and paranoid. McCabe needs a bed in Bellevue. Yes, the whole Russia idea was fabricated and the hatred by all the players IS irrational. Even if Rosenstein tried to remove invoking the 25th, what grounds does he have for removal? "I hate him?" Yeah right! McCabe admits in the interview to a soft coup". Is he that nuts! Does he have zero shame? I am finding this hard to believe, except it's democrats, so nothing is impossible at this point. Nancy has tried, I wouldn't be surprises if chuckie hasn't made a coup attempt. Which OTHER Trump hater has tried a coup? Brennan? Clapper? We have liberals who are deeply troubled psychiatrically. Hatred to the point of almost insanity. Some major arrests NEED to be made and members sent to GITMO. I think Rosenstein was serious when he talked about the wire. I wouldn't put ANYthing past him. He has the LOOK of a criminal. McCabe? He's in denial, he's lost touch with reality.

Driving home from work last night, I actually suffered through a (mercifully brief) replay of McCabe's arrogant, self-righteous "concern" that you mentioned in your article. I came close to throwing up in my own car. "Blind guide leading the blind" is a phrase from Jesus Christ that is appropriate here. Where were his "concerns" for America when Obama -- in his official capacity as a duly-sworn in (note I do NOT say he was duly elected) U.S. president -- apologized to his Muslim Brotherhood pals? Where were his "concerns" when Obama produced a falsified birth certificate -- a GENUINE source of concern for this nation!? Where were his "concerns" when Obama produced a fake Social Security number? Where were his "concerns" when Obama engineered the single biggest insurance scam in the history of this country? Where were his "concerns" when genuine EVIDENCE emerged that Michelle is a transvestite? McCabe STINKS of corruption and smug pride! And I, for one, wish him a long, LONG slide towards a public punishment of his criminal, anti-American actions!!!!

Your researched and thoughtful comments, as well as "facts uncovered" by various other "serious" efforts of investigative reporting, may very well lead to eventual, "actionable results;" reminiscent of a modern day Watergate.....but the Trump-deranged mainstream media will miss it all. They'll be left on the outside-looking-in, as the corruption by the left, story, unfolds! Boy, are they looking foolish!!

I have got to the point change the Media the Hate Trump agenda to ruin the US to the Hate America agenda. It really is so easy to single out one person to hate than take on the bigger foe America. Ask any normal person about David and the Giant everybody thought the Giant would win how many people came to help David? My point is the media is afraid of David and they are even more fearful of Donald Trump. So they fight our President for the only reason to keep him from returning our Nation to the greatest on earth. Look who tried to stop him our Nations police force the FBI look who spied on him CIA Look at your Congress Look at your Senate look at your DOJ how much help was there to returning our Nation to the top of the List. I can't see that much help. Just look at all the rotting personalities we can thank Brennen Comey Clapper McCabe Rosenstein the list seems endless. So you think you hate Trump is the way to go. Its the easiest path to destroy America to take on the media and the Left is the harder fight. People why don't you think about Pelosi Schummer and the rest of the ANTI AMERICA Collection find a way to retire them so the path is faster to be the GREATEST COUNTRY OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable! How these demagogues try to rationalize their poor decision to TELL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE who they SHOULD have as President (probably because they have all been in cahoots with the Clintons from Day One) and to try and effect this. The reason they did not want Donald Trump as a President is because it's similar to the Wizard of Oz....they did not want the curtain pulled back... "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain"...because they knew if someone who is NOT a politician took office all of their dirty secrets would pour forth. And so they have.

I make it a point never to purchase a book written by the likes of Andrew McCabe, James Comey, Hillary or Bill Clinton, the Obamanations. I never read a book written by the Watergate burglers/bunglers or any other person in politics who is trying to defend their misdeeds. I don't have the time and I don't want to waste my money. I don't want to contribute to their infamy and I don't want them to be successful.

The truth is there are people who think more of themselves than what they should. There are people who like controversy and antogonism! These are the same people who are supposed to be supporting America but are being bought by the highest bidder. When you look at the character difference between Hillary, see her track record, versus President, Not Mr. Trump, there is a huge difference. The people in the media who do not like President Trump are defining themselves in all of this! This takes the He said she said out of it.

I appreciate that President Trump is putting America First

    God Bless America.

We need a purge. DOJ Barr as one of his first official acts, needs to round up and prosecute the following: Loretta Lynch, S Page, Koscinen and Lerner (IRS), Hillary, Obama, Hillary's girlfriend Uma Abideen, Susan Rice, Valerie Jarett, Eric Holder, Brennan, Clapper, the entire upper echelon of the FBI. Then Fire Wray and after that the swamp will be partially drained. This needs to be done before the statute of limitations. One of the favorite tactics of this bunch is to stall until the clock runs out and the public loses interest. jm
