Happy Independence Day, America, and happy 242nd anniversary to history’s greatest experiment in freedom!

Today is when Americans celebrate our freedoms.  But sadly, too many of us seem more than willing to trade away our freedoms in exchange for hollow promises of comfort and security.  As the great philosopher Joni Mitchell once said, “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone.”  That’s why the Founding Fathers took such care to lock our most important rights safely within the First Amendment to the Constitution.  It was America’s first “lock box.”  There are more freedoms guaranteed in that one short sentence than people in most nations can even dream of.  That’s why for centuries now, people from around the world have risked their lives to come to America.  The Founders understood that freedom really is that precious.

TRENDING:  Evening Edition - July 3

When the framers of the Constitution first met in 1787, many feared that if they created a strong federal government, it would trample the rights of the people, just like the British king they’d fought to break free of.  So to make sure the people’s rights would always be protected, they added 10 amendments - although George Mason thought they were so important, they should come first, as the Preface.

Now, in case you’ve never heard it or have just forgotten (as too many federal judges have), here is the First Amendment, in its entirety.  Don’t worry, this won’t take long:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Yep, that’s it.  This was before government needed a 2,000-page bill just to ruin your health insurance.  Only 45 simple words were needed to protect our right to speak freely without fear of government retribution...Our right to publish those words so that other Americans can read and debate them…Our right to band together with like-thinking Americans and protest peacefully without fear of arrest…Our right to petition our leaders to change their policies…And our right to be free from having an official state religion forced on us, but also from government interference with the free expression of our personal religious beliefs.  A lot of people celebrate the first half of that religious right but pretend the second half doesn’t exist.  The Supreme Court even seems to be reticent lately to make clear that it means what it says, even though it takes only six words to say it: “…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

These are the rights that together create the free American culture we celebrate today.  The Founders thought they were all so important that somehow, they found a way to list every single one of them first

Commentary continues below advertisement

Then, just to be certain that no future government ever tried to take those rights away, they made the very next amendment the right to bear arms.  And they emphasized that these rights are given by God, not government. So trying to scratch some of them off of the parchment won’t make a lick of difference.

Thank you so much for your support of our Contitution and your news letter.
Please remember the Targeted Individuals who are on the front lines of the battle.
It is the "police state" targeting us under the terrorist acts, we are not terrorist it is being build by the FBI, hand in hand with the NWO. It is a world wide operation.
We hear from Ireland, Australia,Europe, and UK. And more.
Please let the President know that the people in charge of the NSA,HLS AND FBI AND CIA are traitors. Or their "actors", enforcing the programs are!

    Dear Pastor Mike Huckabee,

As always thank you for your insight. My offer:

242 is also the number Rabbi Nachman uses for all his discussions about the evil eye. 99% of the people in the graves are there due to this reason. Its easy to prove. People kill the "other" by forming gangs.

70 is the number for eye.

This year both numbers unite. USA/Israel.

The year has the value 778 which is the value of the holy code word: pakod pakodeti. (Bring the bones)

Donald Trump = Messiah son of David. That's a Trump (card).

The main "fake Rabbi" is probably funded by the anti-Gd people who are fighting to maintain SLAVERY. His name is Rabbi Berland, arguably more powerful than the court. To undo his Evil I propose US backs me in the same manner as China and Russian mobs back him, just long enough to get Rabbi Nachman here within the Jewish New Year deadline. Once Rabbi Nachman arrives Samsons prayer will materialize and falshood as well as death should vanish.

The US did back Shass Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, but his political party did not follow his ruling. Give me a chance. I will inform you who to contact to do this...if you ask.

I am always inspired by your commentary; it's honest, kind, and purposeful. I believe one of the problems people, who are not raised in a Christian home, have in regard to "religion" is their ignorance. People graduate from high school having never heard a word of scripture and many go to college and really never hear a good word about Christianity. It concerns me that so many people want to equate Islam with Christianity. In my opinion, I think islam is an evil cult that teaches hate and murder. Even President Jefferson had to send the marines to stop the barbary pirates, muslims who were attacking and killing American sailors.

Thank you from So Cal, Mike, for reminding everyone of the great freedoms given to us by our founding fathers! Only those who do not realize what was created when America was founded can possibly be in opposition to it. It must become a #1 priority in our schools again to teach the true history of America and world history as well so young people will grow up understanding how important and precious our freedoms are!
    God bless all your work.

Keep up the good work!!! OK?
PS-You sure passed a lot of it to your beautiful daughter, Sarah!

Mr. Huckabee, no one can say it better than you do. Thank you and God bless you for all that you do. I pray for you, I pray for our country and it's president and all of the families that are threatened constantly. God have mercy on us, forgive us, grant us salvation andprotect us from the the evil forces that abound.
Please keep doing what you're doing because it helps the rest of us to have the courage to act, when and where appropriate.

    Governor Huckabee

Thank you for your continual support for the US constitution and its true meaning. I pray that our President and leaders will appoint true constitutional Judges and together they will lead our great country back to Its founding principals which are based on the principals found in the Bible.

The most important lesson Americans have forgotten is that safety and security are given by God, not by government. Only God gives but does not take back liberties. What government gives, it can take.

Happy Independence day. Thank you for the civics lesson, it comes at a time when President Trump can nominate a new justice to the Supreme Court. Hopefully, he will nominate someone who has read and promises to uphold our Bill of Rights as they were intended by the writers of the Constitution.

Mike perioidically, there is a quote on Facebook by the leader of the communist party in the 30s saying in effect that communist goals and philosophy is being implemented by the Democratic party. If you can find that, it would be a good periodic reminder of what the left is about.

Got Bless America and Happy Fourth!
The recent "resist" incivility makes me focus on the part of the First Amendment really debated but endlessly tested: ". . .the right of the people peaceably to assemble." No one said to assemble for what. Simply to assemble. To me, that means going to the mall, a ballgame, a walk . . . or a dinner. I am not a lawyer but I suspect there are laws that sanction infringement of this "right". This is daily life stuff. Why are we not protecting this right as much as the others in the First?

Do your get Imprimis from Hillsdale College? A must read for concerning Americans! "Blasphemy & Free Speech" by Paul Marshall. His opening sentence, and I quote; "A growing threat to our freedom of speech is the attempt to stifle religious discussion in the name of preventing 'defamation of or insults to' religion, especially Islam. Resulting restrictions represent, in effect, a revival of blasphemy laws." From that point, Marshall point, Marshall proceeds, with clarity and alarm, what is happening to America, and other nations around the world, when people dare 'defame' Islam, and the pressures and punishments for those who dare point out the results by so doing. Well documented information. Tell your people "above all get "Blasphemy and Free Speech" by Paul Marshall online. It will help them understand what's happening right under our noses! Yours for a safer and better educated United States of the America. Hope it "converts" or strengthens anyone who listens to it! Blessings on you and your labors, & regards to the family, especially Sarah, she is a God-sent servant! Lord bless, Norman Able

Dear Mr Mike, Happy Independence Day! When I read your writing, I think that EVERYONE should read your words! They are factual, heartfelt, and not biased. I do hope this country will once and for all get back in sync and on track. I believe President Trump is working his tail off for our greater good. If the panty-waste yappers would just hush long enough to see that things are better and will continue to get better, our President can get on with his work. Thank you for all you do!!

I was appalled as a member of the press (?) asked people on a beach why we celebrate the 4th of July...most had no idea, one said Christopher Columbus and they looked to be all Millennial's...what are they teaching these days?

All the rioting by Antifa and other left wing groups are in direct conflict with the First Amendment where it states ". . . the right of the people PEACEABLY to assemble". When they are out there throwing bricks and smoke bombs at people, destroying other people's property, shouting obscenities, or inciting groups of people to harass people who have a difference of opinion than they, that is NOT peaceable! Did you notice the differences of the streets days after 2017 Inauguration; the left had their Women's Rights/Abortion Rights march where people wore those ridiculous pink hats, and the next day the Right to Life group had their march to protect unborn children? The streets where the first group marched were littered with trash EVERYwhere, but the streets where the second group marched were CLEAN, no trash ANYwhere! That right there is pretty telling about the mentality of the two groups; the first group wants to DESTROY, the second group wants to PRESERVE!

Every day, morning and evening, I read your musings. I've just about given up on the "lame stream" media and I believe you are truthful. I would really like to see you take a long hard look at the insurance industry and what it has done to our country today.
Layered insurance has done the most harm to the citizenry.
I was living in the Philippines and had my appendix removed there. I had a private room, private nurse, surgeon, anesthesiologist, surgical costs, and drugs. It cost less than $2000. X-rays using the same equipment used here were $5. Here they are $85.
Labor cost is contributing but not a major factor in this cost analysis.
What they do not have in the Philippines is Layered Insurance which is what is driving our health care costs up so dramatically. The insurance companies have us pulling money from one pocket to the other while they are playing all ends against the middle and they laugh all the way to the bank as their fortunes increase and they become "too big to fail." And who picks up the tab in the end? Certainly NOT the insurance companies.
In short, the insurance was not "ruined", only our access to it. The insurance companies have adjusted and sailed along just fine.
To look at an appropriate FIX, will not include insurance companies as they now exist into the equation. THEY are the problem and are the primary reason we are in the mess we are in today...Pre and Post Obummer.
We need a new starting point and it must begin with a philosophical change in how we react to ALL things miserable. As a nation, we should not profit from another person's misery. As far as I know the phrase "No Profit From Misery" is my original. This is not to say people should not be able earn a living while helping the suffering. But, insurance company speculation on the misery of humanity which grew from an "honest" profit to pure greed is not an acceptable solution.
I know that somewhere in this simple thought there exists a better way for US to take care of ourselves and it will have to be better minds than mine that devise a new framework.
    Any ideas Mr. Huckabee?

Just to add a bit to last night's, once again insightful commentary; the ancient Israelites, after being led through the wilderness by God Himself, demanded the security of an autocratic ruler. The Bible records how that turned out - not good. When one does not have a firm, secure faith in the omnipotent and loving Creator, they will naturally gravitate to the state as their provider. Quoting John Adams to the Massachusetts militia, " Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other".

May God continue to bless and preserve America. And may we as a nation be a blessing to the world.
