LYING ABOUT THE PANDEMIC, PART 2

The lying I spoke of in yesterday’s installment was just the tip of the iceberg. It’s hard enough to assess the danger of this pandemic without people deliberately lying. Here are just a few more examples, not from China but from right here in the U.S.A.

The health care workers risking their own health to fight this virus deserve nothing but praise. But in New York, a nurse who claimed in an apparently phony video that she had quit her job after being made to work in a coronavirus ICU without a face mask fooled CBS News into posting it, complete with background music and captions added to highlight the supposed danger.

In the video, this Instagram “influencer” gets emotional and says, “America is not prepared, and nurses are not being protected.” But on Facebook, she had admitted she left her job at the hospital over a year ago and wasn’t sure she was ready to return to work, as she has anxiety and bi-polar depression and was “triggered” by the growing volume of information on COVID-19.

Note the irony in what she posted: “The information overload can be hard for me to sift through as far as what is credible and what is not, it triggers me.” This, when her own words blur the line between truth and fiction.

COVID-19 News

Here’s the link to Wednesday’s White House press briefing on the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus, complete and uninterrupted by partisan leftist news commentators, except for the ones who were actually there, pretending to be reporters:

The briefing included comments from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on how the Administration is reevaluating our continuing vast monetary support for the WHO; Vice President Pence, who has some encouraging news about how the infection rate appears to be stabilizing, even though the US death toll has topped 14,000; and President Trump, who says he will likely seek a second round of relief from Congress and that he believes we’re in “the final stretch.”

Speaking of Mike Pompeo, a salute to him for the Tweet of the Day, which thanks Taiwan while implicitly giving a punch in the nose to both China and the WHO.

ECONOMIC SHUTDOWN

The economic shutdown continues to take a high toll on American workers, with unemployment claims over the past week hitting 6.6 million, nearly reaching the record 6.8 million from last week. That brings the three-week total to over 16 million.

As for when those people can start getting back to work, President Trump says he’d like to reopen the economy with a “big bang,” but we have to be certain that virus testing and other health measures are in place to ensure we don’t rekindle the spread of the disease that’s being slowed by all the social distancing and staying at home. Trump said his team is analyzing two possibilities: opening the entire nation at once, or opening some areas that are relatively free of the virus while keeping certain hot spots closed a little longer.

As much as we’re all praying for an end to this, I have a feeling that some people might have grown to like working at home, and they could be reluctant to go back to the office. Many might question why it’s even necessary in the Internet age to do all that commuting and polluting when they could be computing (I’ve been promoting teleconferencing for years to environmentalists as an alternative to jetting to five-star resorts to tell the rest of us to live like cavemen to save the Earth, but oddly enough have had no takers.) But this could be one of the ways in which the pandemic really does change the world. To paraphrase an old World War I song, “How you gonna get ‘em back in the office after they’ve worked in their shorts?”

THE FULL SOCIALISM EXPERIENCE

A number of far-left showbiz celebrities such as Mark Ruffalo, John Cusack and Alyssa Milano are wailing on social media about how angry, devastated and powerless they feel because Bernie Sanders dropped out of the Presidential race. Sarah Silverman even compared him to Mr. Rogers, which is appropriate only in that both had their greatest appeal to people with pre-school mentalities.

So here’s a modest proposal. If all these celebrities really want to experience the wonders of socialism, they don’t need Bernie. First, since the median US salary is around $47,000 a year, take everything you make over 47 grand and send it to Washington. That takes care of “income inequality.” Then, go down to the supermarket and look at the empty toilet paper shelves. On the way home, try to get arrested for daring to leave your house without government permission.

There you go: the full socialism experience!

$4 TRILLION IN DAMAGES

The Henry Jackson Society, a British think tank, has compiled a detailed report recommending that the G7 nations (the US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and Britain) sue China for at least $4 trillion in damages for causing the coronavirus pandemic. Here are details on the many ways China violated international law and various ways in which they could be held to account legally.

Good idea. They sent their plague to us, I say we sic our plague – lawyers – on them.

WHY THINGS WILL IMPROVE

Dr. Anthony Fauci has been one of the more pessimistic voices about restarting the economy, but he seemed to backtrack a bit yesterday, saying he expects that by fall, kids will be return to school and we’ll be back to gathering safely in public again. He cautions that the virus isn’t just going to go away and it’s impossible to predict accurately, but click the link for details on why he thinks things will improve fairly quickly.

And here are some hopeful comments about the coronavirus and the economy from HUD Secretary Ben Carson, who, unlike every one of the reporters attacking the President and spreading gloom and doom, actually is a brain surgeon.

I totally agree with the preceding comment made by Stephen Russell, especially on getting rid of Dr. Faucie if he cannot see the nose on front of his face regarding the efficacy and the use of the drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to break the back of this pandemic as the rest of the world is doing right now. HCQ is the world's preferred treatment for this Wuhan virus as we speak. Everywhere we have used it in this country, HCQ has succeeded in killing this virus. Take off the blinders!

We’re going to win over the virus (the Chinese one) and in the process get our country back.
