Not new

Another bulletin from “Editors Who Can’t Be Bothered to Fact-Check”:  No, it is not “NEW” that illegal immigrant children claim they suffered terrible abuse in a detention center…in 2016. Guess who was President. Hint: Not Trump.

Huck's Criminal Mastermind

With so much seriousness in the news, we need a Huck’s Criminal Mastermind to lighten the mood, and I’m proud to say we have one from my home state.  Well, not “proud,” come to think of it.  But this did happen in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

A woman was in a gas station Sunday when someone broke into her car and stole her purse with her wallet inside.  Two days later, she was waitressing at a diner two blocks away when a man paid for his meal by handing her her own credit card.  She called the police, who came over and searched him.  He was also carrying her other credit cards, her Social Security card and her driver’s license, which had her picture on it. Police said you’d think he would've known what she looked like, yet he tried to pay her with her own credit card.

So he’s not exactly a genius, but there was double good news for the victim.  She got her stolen possessions back, and she can now feel better knowing that she really must not look like her driver’s license photo.

Don't buy the conventional wisdom

When a lie gets repeated so often that everyone thinks it’s true, it’s called “conventional wisdom” – maybe because it happens so often at political conventions.  These days, the conventional wisdom is that Americans are clamoring for European-style, cradle-to-grave Socialism Lite.  Don’t buy it.

Throughout the Bush-Obama era, the media kept repeating “failed conservative policies” until even a lot of so-called conservatives believed it.  Well, what a difference a few years make.  We tried leftist policies.  They resulted in a sluggish economy, depressed job growth, rising income inequality, reduced wealth and opportunities for minorities, and abroad, a decline in US prestige and leadership and the advancement and emboldening of our enemies, including a terrorist “JV team” spreading into a worldwide threat.

Polls began to show that most Americans wanted the government to do less and spend less.  In France, where an actual Socialist was elected President, his huge tax hikes crashed the economy and made socialism as popular with the French as cheese in a can.  The media were shocked when voters turned right in the next election.  They should’ve known that nothing turns people off socialism like actually experiencing it.  (See “Venezuela.”)

It is a shame, though, that we have to keep relearning the hard way that top-down, big government solutions don’t work.  Young people can almost be excused for flirting with socialism, since they are empty vessels who get filled with whatever their teachers tell them, and we’ve been remiss in allowing leftists to politicize our schools and fill those precious vessels with garbage.

But Republicans who promised small government and fiscal responsibility should know better.  Instead, too many let deficits skyrocket, stuffed budgets with pork, and became cheerleaders for big government.  These so-called conservatives slammed me in 2007 for not being a “real conservative” because I pointed out problems in the economy that were hurting working people and criticized the lack of oversight of Wall Street’s excesses.  Two years later, they wanted to spend $700 billion of our grandkids’ money to save Wall Street from its excesses.  They abandoned government’s rightful role as a tough-but-impartial referee and wanted to use its power to pick winners and losers in the market.  Is that “real conservatism?”

The truth is that voters didn’t turn their backs on conservatism, Republican politicians did.  Democrats didn’t sweep to power in 2008 by claiming to be government-bloating tax-and-spenders, but by swearing they’d changed and were now fiscally responsible.  Of course, once they gave Obama, Pelosi and Reid unlimited power, voters quickly realized their terrible mistake and gave the House back to the GOP.  But too many Republicans had already squandered their credibility, so when Democrats ballooned the deficit, they could deflect criticism by simply pointing at their GOP opponents’ own record.

From Jefferson’s belief that government closest to the people governs best to Reagan’s faith in free markets, from low taxes to fiscal restraint, conservative ideas work whenever they’re tried.  We’re now seeing the results with Trump’s tax cut and deregulation agenda.  Obama mocked Trump for saying we could bring back manufacturing jobs and have growth of over 4 percent, saying that Trump didn’t have a “magic wand.”  But the only magic needed was a simple disappearing act: getting government out of the way!  We now have record low unemployment and strong growth and job creation.  Does anyone seriously believe it could be even better if we brought back high taxes and regulations?

Gandhi once said, "If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today."   I think if all politicians really followed the principles they espouse to get elected, all of America would be conservative today.  Much of it already is (look at the 2016 county-by-county voting map.)  Americans just need politicians who’ll actually do what they claimed they would do once they arrive in Washington.

Sick Hypocrisy Award: Planned Parenthood jumps on the illegal immigration virtue signaling wagon by tweeting its principled stance that precious children deserve not to separated from their parents.  Unless you’re separating them with surgical tools and a vacuum hose, I suppose?

We don't need Divine intervention to understand this

This story features an interesting examination of the attempt to cite Scripture as an argument for lenient immigration and border control policies.  It includes the rationale of theologians on both sides of the issue.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t delve into why people who spend much of their time attacking or mocking Christians for believing in the Bible cite the Bible to support their positions when it’s convenient.  But we can probably figure that out without Divine intervention.

Darn! I just wrote a few small paragraphs and it disappeared! Just want you to know that I really enjoy reading your comments and please know that my whole family feels the same way! Nice to have someone like you, on our side! Now....if we could just get rid of Rosenstein & Mueller, the USA would be so much better! I was in the Legal field for over 20 years. First with Attorneys, then a Judge whose brother was our State (Texas) Senator! Worked for all! Really like reading your comments! I'm a female, by the way. Fed up with the Democrats!

Mike. Why are you not part of Trump's team ? You could talk to the Republicans (with a big stick) and try to get them on one page and not tearing each other apart. 2018 elections are coming. If they want to keep both Senate and House, they better get their heads on and start acting like Republicans and do the right thing. OK, how do I know you read comments ? Thanks John

Hi Governor Huckabee. There is a lot of talk flying around about wanting to eliminate ICE. What people seem to fail to realize is that ICE is a law-enforcement agency, and without the ICE agents doing the fine work they do we would be inundated with who knows what. Many in the rest of the world are not overly fond of our nation, and would like nothing better than to see it destroyed, and what better way to accomplish that goal than to send infiltrators through our southern border. If they are looking for a three-letter government agency that begins with the letter "I" to eliminate, perhaps I could offer an alternative: If we went to a flat tax system, we could very easily eliminate the IRS. Unlike eliminating ICE, I see no down side to this idea. Just my thought, for what it's worth.

Governor, I admire you for continuuing to encourage conservative principles. All this, even though you were not the winner in the '16 Presidential election. Your kindness to and support of Pres. Trump is much appreciated.

I read just a few days ago that Peter Strzok and his lawyer wanted his side of the story to be told and now under subpoena, he is unwilling to show up. Also I understand in committee interviews he was more than rather evasive with his answers. I guess he needs liberal left SMS lobbing him softballs.

Mike, your commentary on Planned Parenthood is so on point - I chuckled first, then cringed. Yesterday I was on Erick Erickson's site - where one of the regular contributors wrote something about fake evangelists - and somehow a number of us were writing -- you see, if you don't already know, Erick is a never-trumper - along with most of the posters on his site - basically saying it is ridiculous to support Trump AT ALL because he is such a sinner. I responded by saying who among us is a saint? And certainly we were better off with Trump than Hillary, especially given the opportunity to shape the Supreme Court for decades to come. Long story short, someone actually slammed me for being pro-life, asking what did I hope to gain from Trump's SC picks - outlawing abortion? I replied that yes, I would love to see that, but it probably will not happen - but I'd settle for at some conditions - like no abortion after 12 weeks, since it is murder, and what part of "Thou Shalt Not Kill" doesn't anyone understand. One poster actually replied, stating ... "You ignorant you kiss your children with that mouth? I hope..." The beginning only of his rant appeared in my email, but when I went to the site (and no, I wasn't going to respond, except to say, "Wow," considering I had said several times that political discourse has degenerated, yada yada, yada.... His post was removed, I would imagine, within seconds, as was mine, with the statement that yes, I'd love to see abortion outlawed. When I checked again later, mine was back on, but his was removed. He is a Marco Rubio supporter, by the way, and I would have been fine with Marco as well. Anyone but Hillary. But I would imagine that Marco would not have been happy with this guy. Sad....

Funny, years ago I wanted to run for political office - I'm 63 now - and my father said, "please don't." I asked why, and he stated that there were too many skeletons in our closet. That is certainly true, and I can well imagine how many people have reconsidered running for office because of something they once did, or something that was said, or even a "sin" they committed but since repented of, but that doesn't count, etc. In my case, when I was 34, or so, I had a miscarriage - the baby died in utero, and I had to have the fetus extracted surgically. When I saw the paperwork at the surgery center, it was called an abortion - so I can well imagine someone would drag that out and use it against me. Just wow. What a world. Keep on keeping on, Mike!

    Dear Mike,
Since many conservative/Trump supporter movie stars are losing their jobs because they support President Donald Trump - the movie stars should start their own production company for conservatives. The movies that are being produced today are terrible.
Maybe we can have better movies that are more conservative and Christian.
    Thank you and God bless.

I just read that George Will is not going to vote for the GOP. This pompous elitist claims to be a conservative columnist. What a crock!! Any one who uses the word inverteibrate as a substitute for spineless is really working too hard to come off as intellectual. Who the hell is he trying to impress? How did he get by for years claiming to be conservative? I am an average American living in the midwest and when I see these phonies trying to impress us it makes me want to laugh. If he only knew how little he impresses people outside his little bubble he would shrivel up. Sick of all of them. jack

What many of our citizens forgot is the difference between God given rights and opportunities that have personal responsibility to make something of one's self. Whenever government passes laws to coddle irresponsible able people to do what they are too lazy to do for themselves liberty retreats. Maybe we need a repeal project to do away with liberty robbing laws at all levels of government and reintroduce "We the People" to the responsibility of Liberty and Freedom.

I'm upset that do to allegations from others and the corrupt media Scott Pruitt has resigned. Why are the rino republicans and many democrats that have multiple ways of stuffing their bank accounts with money from deals not resigning too. He was a great asset to President Trump this sickens me.And now they are going after Jim Jordan ! We all know why they're smearing him.I am so fed up with how they are tearing apart this nation and trying to slander good men.Jesus said in the end times there would be false witness and truth would be twisted to be lies.We the American people know exactly what is going on. I pray each day this can be turned around but was reading Isaiah last night about Gods judgement on Is real and what was going on with that nation it is so similar to what's happening here.I think soon millions of people are going to march across this nation to stop the desecration of our country. Its time for our voices to be heard.God bless you and God bless America

Our Main Stream Media and our liberals, progressives, socialists, communists, environmentalists, “social sciences” professors, Democrats, and other bottom-feeders, low-lives, and scum of this once free and strong and proud society equate nuclear bombs with nuclear electricity. Hoodwinking Americans is the essential part of the environmentalist agenda. Environmental activist Stephen Schneider told Discover magazine in 1989: “We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have. … Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.”
In 1988, then-Sen. Timothy Wirth, D-Colo., said: “We’ve got to … try to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong … we will be doing the right thing anyway in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”
To resume this-comedy in 3 acts performed by the US-taxpayer-paid ($25 billion per year) drones supervised by the UN socialist panel:
    1) New Ice Age panic in the 1970’s; remedy = our unilateral disarmament plus nationalize everything and establish a United Nations-supervised world socialist government “to spread the wealth around”, as proclaimed in 2009 by our Marxist Muslim ex-President from Kenya B. Hussein Obama; when that ice failed to show up the same criminals invented
    2) Global Warming scam in the 1990’s; remedy still the same. After 21 consecutive years of global COOLING as dictated by the 30-year solar cycle the same bunch of criminals declared
    3) Climate Change hoax; remedy – see above.
Our former (thank God!) Marxist Muslim President B. Hussein Obama from Kenya bestowed $50 million of our money to the United Nations Climate Change fund organized by that criminal Paris Conference comedy. In hasty preparation for that conference the fakers “recalibrated” their thermometers and “modified” their computer programs RETROACTIVELY to “demonstrate’ further warming. Mr. Trump – PLEASE – nullify this waste of our money and stop that socialist conspiracy! Well – miracle: he has done it!
