Ivana Trump RIP
I am sad to have to report that Ivana Trump died Thursday afternoon at 73 in her Manhattan apartment. The most likely cause is cardiac arrest. Ivana was the first wife of Donald Trump and the mother of their three adult children, as well as a fashion icon and successful executive and entrepreneur.
Her family released a statement reading, “Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism” (what was then Czechoslovakia) “and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren.”
Former President Trump stated on Truth Social, “She was a wonderful, beautiful and amazing woman who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we all were so proud of her. Rest in Peace, Ivana!”
All of us here would like to offer our sincere condolences and prayers to the family of Ivana Trump.
"The Pay Cut President"
Wednesday, the government reported that the consumer price index in June jumped to 9.1%, a 40-year high for year-to-year inflation. The White House tried to downplay that by claiming the numbers were already out of date and things were getting better. Sadly, that doesn’t seem likely with the follow-up news that the producer price index for June jumped to 11.3%, which is 1.1% higher than economists predicted.
Producer prices are prices at the wholesale and manufacturing levels, which means they’ll be passed along to consumers, so consumer prices won’t be coming down anytime soon. Even worse, as noted by wealth management expert David Nicolas, rising wages aren’t helping because they’re being eaten up by inflation to the point that year-over-year wage growth has dropped 4%. You may be getting paid more, but it’s buying less. And if you’re in debt, more of your money is about to go to paying interest on it.
Before the White House starts flinging around blame like monkey poop, check out the chart at the link showing that real average hourly earnings were rising up to the moment Biden took office, then they began dropping. As Tommy Piggott of RNC Research puts it, “Joe Biden is the pay cut President.” Most of the drop came after the passage of the $1.9 trillion “American Rescue” plan, which turned out to be like tossing a drowning man an anvil, and astoundingly, top Democrat advisors are calling for responding to the bad inflation numbers by passing another big spending bill that would make it worse. These are the people who deserve a pay cut. Like, to zero.
Manchin is holding firm for now
Congressional Democrats were hoping for last-minute passage of another big spending bill before a red wave washed them all away to jobs with lobbying firms and MSNBC, but West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has put the kibosh on that dream.
Manchin had reportedly been negotiating with Senate Majority Leader (hope I don’t have to type that too much longer) Chuck Schumer, to help his fellow Dems pass a pared-down version of their budget-busting “Build Back Better” boondoggle to tout as an “accomplishment.” But after seeing inflation numbers continue to climb higher and higher, Manchin said Thursday he will not back a bill that includes their climate change wishlist and energy regulations or their tax increases on corporations (which I should add get passed along to consumers in the form of even higher prices.)
All Manchin is willing to agree to is a measure to reduce prescription drug costs and a two-year extension of the Obamacare subsidy. The left is not taking this well.
Manchin’s spokesperson said, "Political headlines are of no value to the millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas as inflation soars to 9.1%. Senator Manchin believes it’s time for leaders to put political agendas aside, reevaluate and adjust to the economic realities the country faces to avoid taking steps that add fuel to the inflation fire."
I know what you’re thinking: how could someone who thinks Congress should adjust to economic realities possibly still be a Democrat?
Biden in the Middle East
President Biden is in the Middle East. Today, he’s traveling to Saudi Arabia to try to convince them to produce more oil to replace the oil we used to produce before he shut it down, because…it’s somehow better for the climate to burn Saudi oil than American oil, I guess?
As we go to press, word is that Biden will leave Saudi Arabia without announcing a deal for them to increase oil production, after he rejected an invitation to meet with American oil producers.
Biden also reversed another Trump policy, pledging US financial aid to the Palestinians and holding a joint appearance with the president of the Palestinian Authority. The PA has been (I think rightly) described as a genocidal terrorist organization closely linked to the anti-Semitic terrorists of Hamas. But so you don’t think I’m being biased, here’s how even the liberal site Wikipedia describes it: “The Palestinian Authority is an authoritarian regime that has not held elections in over 15 years; it has been criticized for human rights abuses, including cracking down on journalists, human rights activists, and dissent against its rule.”
And they’ll likely be the ones in charge of the financial aid we send to Palestinians. I’m sure it will end up in the right hands.
Here’s a link to Fox News’ continually updated stories on his trip.
One of the most interesting was the reaction from Iran to Biden’s signing of a pledge with Israel to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He’s still pushing the disastrous Obama Iran nuclear deal that Trump rescinded, and he said he prefers negotiations but that military force would be a last resort. Iran’s Armed Forces Spokesman, Brigadier General Abul-Fadl Shakarchi, replied, "The use of the term force against Iran by the US President and the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity is a psychological war for which the enemy will pay."
Well, that certainly sounds like someone we can trust to peacefully negotiate with us in good faith.
Dangers of an open border
The DEA announced that it seized approximately 1 million fake pills containing fentanyl in Inglewood, California, with a street value of up to $20 million. It’s the largest fentanyl bust in California history. It came during a raid of a house tied to an L.A.-area drug trafficking operation that’s believed to be connected to Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel.
A DEA spokesman said, “This massive seizure disrupted the flow of dangerous amounts of fentanyl into our streets and probably saved many lives.”
That’s great, but do you know what really helps disrupt the flow of fentanyl into our streets and saves even more lives? Secure borders.
Another Twist to That Story
There’s been yet another twist in the story of the illegal immigrant accused of raping and impregnating a 10-year-old Ohio girl, whom abortion activists falsely claim had to travel to another state to obtain an abortion (and if that’s what really angers you about this story, you need counseling.) In the latest turn, even though he confessed to sexually assaulting the girl at least twice, her mother told a reporter that the girl is “fine,” and “everything they say about (him) is a lie.”
There are more details at that link, along with speculation on why she might be saying that. The only things that are certain are that this story has yet to be fully explained and media outlets that presented it unquestioningly as a simple pro-abortion narrative utterly failed at the job of journalism.
PS – The original media reports also claimed the rapist was a 17-year-old minor. The arrestee is actually 27.
