AMERICA BURNS AT THE HANDS OF EXTREMIST THUGS
In cities across the nation this weekend, protests continued over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer. And tragically, many of those protests turned violent, with assaults, rioting, burning, and looting; from New York City, where two Brooklyn attorneys were arrested over the throwing of a Molotov cocktail into an empty police car…
…to Dallas, where a man carrying a machete and allegedly trying to protect his neighborhood was brutally beaten, stoned, and left bleeding on the sidewalk.
Federal authorities believe that the radical leftist organization Antifa, which has been staging violent political demonstrations for several years, is behind much of the rioting. Democrats and liberals in the media deny that and are blaming the riots on outside “white supremacists” (Prof. Glenn Reynolds wryly commented, “These riots are entirely justified responses to systemic racism, and the only possible way to force social change, and they’re being instigated by white supremacists”), or on their favorite scapegoat for every story that makes the left look bad, Russian agents.
DEVELOPING STORY: FBI SWAMP CREATURE DANA BOENTE RESIGNING
This is a developing story that could have major implications; we’ll have more soon. On Friday, FBI general counsel Dana Boente, a career FBI/DOJ official who as acting deputy attorney general signed at least one of the FISA warrant renewals on former Trump campaign associate Carter Page, turned in his resignation letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
This occurs just as Lindsey Graham is getting ready to start Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on the “Trump/Russia” investigation. (Opening salvo: Wednesday, with Rod Rosenstein.) And in May, FBI Director Christopher Wray announced that there would be an internal “after-action” review of the FBI’s handling of the Michael Flynn case to determine whether current FBI employees “engaged in misconduct.”
Boente remains on the job for now; June 30 is the date being given for his departure. That seems odd; if he sees the last-minute need to delete/shred/eat any evidence of wrongdoing before heading out the door, it would seem this is his chance. So, until he leaves, will he still be considered a current employee and therefore subject to Wray’s internal review? Not that we'd have confidence in Wray to DO a thorough internal review...
HISTORIC LAUNCH PUTS AMERICA BACK IN SPACE
Through the brilliance and determination of its builders and the grace of God, the SpaceX Dragon capsule successfully blasted off Saturday from Cape Canaveral and safely delivered astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken to the International Space Station.
This was a historic launch, and not just because it’s a partnership between NASA and a private space aeronautics company. It was, shockingly, the first launch of astronauts from American soil in nine years. I consider the decision to let the US space program atrophy to the point that our astronauts couldn’t even get to the space station unless they hitched a ride with Russia to be one of the most short-sighted of many bad decisions emanating from Washington over the past decade or so. In a speech celebrating the SpaceX Dragon launch, President Trump put it this way:
“With this launch, the decades of lost years and little action are officially over. A new age of American ambition has now begun. Past leaders put the United States at the mercy of foreign nations to send our astronauts into orbit. Not anymore. Today, we once again proudly launch American astronauts on American rockets, the best in the world, from right here on American soil…The United States has regained our place of prestige as the world leader. As has often been stated, you can’t be number one on Earth if you are number two in space. And we are not going to be number two anywhere.”
You can see the full speech and more on the launch at this link.
For a more detailed explanation of why I think the space program is so important, and of the countless benefits we enjoy from it that many Americans might not even realize, here’s my monologue from this weekend’s “Huckabee” on TBN.
RIOTS ARE PROTECTED, CHURCHES AND BUSINESSES ARE NOT
Within the space of one month, Chicago’s Democratic Mayor has given us a perfect illustration of “progressive” governance:
Do you want to open your business? I will send the police to shut you down and arrest you!
You want to riot, burn, and loot? I will tell the police: Hands off, stand aside and let ‘em do it!
ICYMI: KEEPING TRACK OF BIDEN
Whoever is writing Joe Biden’s quotes for him needs to spend more time boning up on what he’s already said. I wrote elsewhere about how Biden assailed Trump for allegedly undermining Section 230 on social media platforms when just six months ago, Biden was saying it should be “revoked immediately.” Now, Biden has allegedly co-authored an op-ed accusing Trump of “xenophobia” for scapegoating Asians by blaming China for the COVID-19 (Chinese) coronavirus and calling it the “China virus,” which major media outlets also did until they took their marching orders from China, and which I still do because it’s 100% accurate.
Question: did none of Biden’s handlers realize that this would remind Americans of the last time Biden accused Trump of xenophobia, which was when he attacked Trump for cutting off travel from China to keep visitors from spreading the virus all over the country? That action was attacked by Democrats like Biden as racist and xenophobic, up until the point that everyone realized it saved countless lives, and then they suddenly started accusing Trump of not doing it soon enough.
This is yet another reason why I could never be a Democrat: I’m not suffering from serious memory loss. Joe, I can’t speak for.
Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
