An update on the Democrat Demolition Derby…er, I mean, primary

Less than 2 minute read

August 16, 2019

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper dropped out of the race Thursday, his chances of winning having been crippled by a toxic level of rationality.  He’s considering running for Senate in Colorado.  This will leave several other candidates with no shot to battle for the less-than-one-percent of voters in the polls who favor a moderate and realistic candidate over a far-left dingbat.

This somehow reminds me of “Beto” O’Rourke, who “rebooted” his campaign yesterday with a speech that was aptly described by one critic as “woke word salad.”  “Beto 3.0” followed up a week of hysterically calling President Trump a white supremacist who’s personally responsible for mass shootings (and anyone who votes for him a racist) by refocusing his campaign on "racism, white supremacy and guns" (sounds like a winner!) and making it a personal moral crusade against Trump.

He simultaneously managed to alienate all Republicans while ticking off many Democrats by dismissing the idea of dropping out and running for Senate in Texas.  He implied that replacing Trump was so important that the Senate was nothing compared to that.  That isn’t a message Democrats want to spread, since if they hold the House and win the White House, a GOP Senate will be the only thing keeping them from going full socialist/open borders/gun-grabber on us all.  Personally, I hope Democrats don’t get that message, but I also hope Republicans get it loud and clear.

I could just link to “Beto’s” speech, but Jim Treacher’s write-up of it is much funnier.

Finally, as the Democrats scurry around the Iowa State Fair, desperately seeking some deep-fried kale and arugula along with some Heartland support, the clock is ticking on qualifying for the third round of debates, and the standards for fundraising and poll standings are getting tougher.  The next debates could be bereft of a dozen or so hopefuls, and since they include Marianne Williamson, they could also be bereft of any entertainment value.

Guy Benson at Townhall.com has a roundup on where the horse race stands at the moment, who’s likely to make it and whose heads will be on the chopping block.  You might be surprised by some of the winners and losers.  For instance, rabidly anti-Trump billionaire and last-minute candidate Tom Steyer is just one poll away from making the debates, having topped the threshold of 130,000 donors.

I’m sorry, but if you have enough disposable income to give money to a billionaire just because he hates Trump a lot, then please don’t expect me to pay off your student loans for you.

My comments are not about the Democrats, the rest of your readers have said everything that needs to be said about this political party of divisiveness, hatred, etc.
My comment is about your article on China and the printing of Bibles. You are absolutely right Governor, sure hope someone is proofreading the Bibles imported to the U.S. Unbelievable, $11 million in religious items made in China and imported back to the U.S. And the link to western journal explanation becomes more concerning. The U.S. vendors (for printing Bibles) can't meet the demands of the market or have the capacity or capability!! Now I know very little about economics, but just this article on the importing of religious items made in China for the U.S., is just one minor example (but maybe not too minor at $11 million) of so many things produced in China. This is what the President has been trying to turn around. The President easily recognizes the terrible decisions of 30+ years of trade and imports and that China has had the economic boom, while this country has loss jobs and production. All of which the President is trying to turn around to continue Making America Great.
My other comment is on Israel rejecting Omar & Tlaib, then their consideration of allowing with a promise or agreement that they would not push their anti-Israel agenda while there and then their turning down the offer. Israel made the right decision. And yet the President is getting blamed and criticized for telling a foreign government not to accept a visit from a U.S. Congress person. No, the President rightfully told Israel and warned them not to allow these two anti-Israel and anti-American so called Congress representatives in their country. And when is the rest of America going to start standing up against these two and others who hate our country so much that they will do anything to destroy it!! When will Republicans start not having the spine of an eel and begin standing up and against those traitors who hate our country and want to see it fundamentally transformed to fit their hateful ideology?

Thank you Gov. Huckabee for your diligence in keeping us up on all these "tragic" things happening in OUR country. God is in charge - it is just so hard to understand with all these people filled with hatred- against what? Where they live, earn incomes, live good lives and all they talk about is destroying America! God Bless America and President Trump. Also how do we get TBN back on a channel on TV. I miss it so much. (Satan at work again!) God Bless you and your family!

I am tired of the Trump and America bashing of these Democrats. Yeah, we are not perfect. We can improve. Nut rather than make a contribution in a positive way all the Dems do is hate, call for violence, call everyone that won't vote for them racist and come up with lunatic policies to line their own pockets while tearing down our country. Enough already! Don't like Trump, whom WETHE PEOPLE elected? Don't like America? Get out. Find somewhere to take your anger and belittling hatred. We no longer want you in any position of power.

Treacher's last comment on John Kasich is spot on. I am a Republican from Ohio and I asked many of those who supported him (Kasich) if they thought he would choose Dennis Kucinich as his running mate. I don't believe most people understand that the 'originial voice' of Progressivism came from the Republicans-Teddy Roosevelt and Taft. If we think Progressive only lives on the Democratic side we are not understanding the truth.

    Dear Mike,
Good column as usual. My guess is that the Dem candidate will be Steyer,
the late comer. Of course, like all good deplorables, I will again be voting for
    our GREAT prosident, Donald Trump...

It doesn't matter which Democrat is left standing to face President Trump in 2020, he will destroy them in any debate. The silent majority will rise up in November 2020.

Fake news shows these dem runners with a big block of voters. Does anyone know if there actually are any voters voting for these failed runners and their failed polices? I've understood for the past 40 plus years that the Muslim cult was the religion of hate but now the dems have out done them. America was not built on hate. Why would any one in their right mind vote for such a hideous way of government or even want to live under such a government, or... bring children up under such a government?

There are times when you just HAVE to act, right? Like the little child breaking away from mom and running toward the busy street. Or the old man swaying on his cane too close to the subway tracks. Or the baby left to wander to the edge of the pool. Well, if "Beto" were in any of these circumstances, well, I'm not sure I WOULD act. He seems to WANT to fall in front of the speeding subway. To trip into the pool. But, hey....the more the merrier! This will be like "Whack a Dem" for President Trump, and his "whacker" is Thor's Hammer!

John F Kennedy was considered a far left extremist for supporting birth control, within marriage only of course. I can't even tell you what the main stream democrats of today stand for without being censored. My mother would not even allow that kind of language.

Mike, thank you for the brief update. I haven’t been watching the Democratic debates- I figured I’d wait until the list dwindles down. “Beto” is surely helping our cause with his racial demagoguery. He pretty much closed the door on himself for any hope of running for the senate with his comment about winning the presidential race is more important.
I also appreciate the links you included.

I cracked UP when I saw the headline. That was funny. Sadly, you have described the situation very well. It is becoming a joke. Most of them have lost their minds over racist and guns. Beto is becoming more and more pathetic as time goes on. I wonder why he is still allowed to shoot off his mouth.

you know, with all the rhetoric being espoused out there by racist dems, I wonder if there are some crimes being committed in the course of things. Another question I have to ask is why is there no penalty for advocating the tearing down of the republic? Isn't that a crime? We've got serious problems that are NOT being addressed.

I just finished reading another conservative article before yours that gave me chills...it quoted a Fox Poll that had President Trump losing to all of the top four Democrats right now. My stomach is still churning. Surely, I pray, there are not that many people who are that stupid. Governor, please keep speaking up and doing what you can so that Republicans will hear and know we cannot be complacent. No one would listen to me....I don't even have a platform and all my friends are conservatives for the most part....I guess the only comforting thing is that I remember the polls did not mean one thing last time. I went to bed defeated and awoke to victory. Completely surprised and unbelieving. May it be so again!

Beto needs to go back to El Paso and open a business, settle down and raise his family. Thank you Mike Huckabee for keeping us up to date. Love to read anything you post on FB or your e-mails. I KNOW it's going to be the truth.

Mike, your columns / editorials should be required reading, daily, for all high school and college students. Oh, wait... do they even teach civics, American history or American government classes any more? I'm told most schools don't. What a shame...
Keep up your good work, sir. You are appreciated. Also, LOVE SARAH ! She will be missed at the WH podium.

I love your sense of humor!
The Liberal Democrats are crazy...but also so scary! I’m praying that The United States of America wakes up and prays for our country, this election and our President Trump. I’m praying also that God gives President Trump wisdom and the right words to say to get through the hardest days ahead of him (and us).
President Trump is God’s chosen man for this office.
Thank you for keeping us informed Mike!

Mike thanks for clear editions you bring daily. As we are bombarded with talk from lunatics every day it is great to have a heaven to retreat to. As these maniacs bark their nonsense and that's putting it mildly what do they believe will change if they put into effect another gun law we do not enforce or cannot enforce the laws we have in place now. I have watched antifa and the hoodlums of New York assault police, and the thugs of Philly and our President threaten and it goes without action. If we are to keep our nation civil while police are dealing with murderers a backup force needs to enter and round up the hoodlums who are disrupting the police efforts to bring peace. A strong message followed by strong action is needed now to stop the uncivilized. Get the pot users that are taking up space in our prisons out and replace them with these social misfits.

Outstanding. You are a true Patriot with more common sense than the rest of Congress combined. My wife has been occasionally letting me read your columns on her I-pad and being a little slow, I am a senior citizen, just today realized that I could get my own copy to read, well duh? My God bless you and your family. Respectfully, W D Johnson

Never before in my 83 years have I ever heard such rotton talk about a President! I pray that our Lord God will protect President Trump and his family and grant him 4 more years as President!
