March 23, 2019

Friday, special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his final report to Attorney General William Barr.  After more than 600 days, $20 million in taxpayer money and countless hours of conspiracy mongering on cable “news” channels, the Democrats’ dreams of impeachment, imprisonment, even execution for President Trump seem to be ending not with a bang but with a whimper.  Plus a fair amount of guffawing from the right and bitter, angry tears from the left.

I can’t comment in detail about what's in it because the full report has yet to be released.  Barr has to go over it to insure there is no classified information or anything protected by executive privilege before sharing it with Congress members so they can immediately leak it to the press.

That well-known legal fact hasn’t stopped Democrats from demanding that Barr hand it over immediately, but hey, they desperately need something to get on their high horse and distract our attention with because they can feel their world imploding underneath them.  They must’ve suspected the jig was up when the report was released after 5 p.m. on a Friday, the traditional time for dumping news stories that you hope will fall into a black hole and draw no attention (but that’s not going to happen with this one.)

I’ve also noticed that throughout this pointless and divisive circus and right up to the end, Democrats were always issuing dire public warnings to Trump not to try some underhanded tactic, whether it was firing Mueller or Rosenstein, pardoning Michael Cohen or, as Chuck Schumer did just yesterday, warning Barr not to give Trump a sneak peek at the report before Congress sees it and warning Trump not to interfere in its release.  For the record, Trump has never done any of the things Democrats kept warning that he’d better not do.  It’s remarkable how they’re always able to think of the exact underhanded thing someone would do to escape justice that never seemed to occur to Trump.  I guess that shows the advantage of being political professionals.

Schumer and Nancy Pelosi issued a joint statement declaring that “the watchword is transparency."  Don’t worry, I think you’ve both been absolutely transparent throughout this whole fiasco.

Here is what little we know for sure: Mueller recommends no more indictments and he affirmed that he was not blocked in any way from any line of investigation he wanted to follow.

Here is what we can assume from that: the investigation has ended with no charges planned against Trump, his family or any of his associates for allegedly colluding with Russia to affect the 2016 election.  All the charges and guilty pleas against people such as Paul Manafort were for process crimes and unrelated issues involving their businesses and taxes.  Those charges were not, as liberal talking heads and politicians have been insisting for two years, “the tip of the iceberg.”  In fact, all this ever turned up was a cupful of melting ice cubes.

I think we can also safely assume that there will be no charges of obstructing justice, since Mueller confirmed he was never obstructed in any way.

Otherwise, until we see the report, we won’t know whether Mueller exonerated Trump and his people or used the prosecutor’s tactic of the subtle smear, implying that they might be guilty of something but he just couldn’t find the evidence (which you could say of anyone.) If it’s the former, Trump’s lawyers might not bother with a rebuttal; if it’s the latter, they will definitely release a rebuttal.

Meanwhile, not since Election Night 2016 have the liberal cable news hosts suffered such an emotional meltdown.  They were so certain that Trump was a Russian agent who would be frog-marched out of the White House in manacles and that Mueller was their white knight who would deliver the fatal blow that their reactions ranged from fury to tears.  The same goes for liberal celebrities on social media.

I’m sure Republicans will be gleefully rewatching video compilations on YouTube for years to come. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde’s wisecrack about Charles Dickens, one would have to have a heart of stone to watch their tears without laughing. Whatever tatters of “journalistic” reputations these outlets still retain should now be doused with lighter fluid and tossed into the barbecue grill.

Of course, this doesn’t mean the investigations will end. There definitely should be investigations of the partisan investigators and their knowing use of unvetted opposition research garbage and hiding of exculpatory evidence to secure illegal FISA warrants to spy on members of the Republican presidential campaign.

They should face harsh consequences, as should America’s self-appointed conscience, former FBI chief James Comey, who leaked classified meeting notes to the media in order to manipulate the creation of a special counsel, setting off a chain of events that hamstrung the Administration, thwarted the will of the voters, savagely divided the nation, eroded trust in our elections and institutions, and wasted $20 million and incalculable amounts of time and energy that could have been devoted to dealing with real problems.

I don’t want to hear another word about his firing being unjustified.  He’s lucky Trump didn’t fire him out of a cannon on the White House lawn.

And naturally, Democrats will continue to ignore the people’s business to chase even more madly after the great white whale, Trump.  There are the New York prosecutors who plan to investigate every aspect of Trump’s businesses and his associates’ businesses.  This is a stunningly un-American abuse of power: prosecutors are supposed to start with a reasonable suspicion of a specific crime and search for evidence, not investigate a person looking for a crime.  That kind of activity is straight out of Stalinist Russia (as Stalin's right-hand man put it, “You show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime.”)  But those federal prosecutors still have to answer to the Attorney General, so let’s hope he reminds them of their duties in no uncertain terms.

And of course, Congressional Democrats such as Rep. Adam Schiff will continue digging through piles of manure, certain that they’ll eventually find a pony in there somewhere.  I expect him to keep wasting time and taxpayers' money, demanding to see people’s business records and tax forms and bags of trash (“Aha! I found an unrecycled Snapple bottle in Trump’s chauffeur’s trash! Impeach Trump for murdering the planet!”)

It strikes me that this nasty, divisive hoax Americans have been subjected to for the past two-plus years has been an unexpected triumph for the Russian hackers who hoped to sow chaos and distrust in our system and never imagined how much the Democrats and the media would help them.  Talk about colluding with the Russians!

It all really grew out of two things:

1.  The Trump campaign, being political neophytes, didn’t know all the arcane rules and potential landmines.  They were so vilified by the media that political pros didn’t want to work with them, so they made some bad hires.  And they didn’t know that if you got an offer of some damaging dirt on your opponent, you don’t let your top people take the (perfectly legal) meeting.  You send some underling you can throw under the bus.

Lesson: Be like Hillary and get someone else to pay the Russians for oppo dirt, using money you launder through your campaign’s law firm.   That’s the acceptable, ethical Washington way!

2.  The Democrats to this day are unwilling or unable to accept that they lost the 2016 election fair and square.  It wasn’t the Russians or the Electoral College that did them in.  They put up an arrogant, unlikable candidate with more baggage than a 747, running on a platform of extending policies that were great for growing ISIS but terrible for growing the economy.  Rather than face the fact that voters rejected their failed policies, they deluded themselves by inventing an elaborate hoax conspiracy as an excuse, and their media enablers repeated it until they all believed it themselves.  Now, even after the Mueller investigation has ended with no top-level indictments, they’re going to keep doubling down on it until they descend into madness and irrelevancy.

Lesson: Never fall for your own propaganda.

It is time to consider charges of Treason! The Left has made it clear that they instigated this process to "Get" Trump. There never was any interest in finding actual wrong-doing, just "Get" Trump. This misguided stupidity needs to be stopped, Period! As I said, Treason needs to be investigated. Also, I believe the Democrats owe the American people $20 million Dollars.

The Leftists are also unwilling to admit they lost their ploy to impeach and remove President Trump from office. It is very important we start now to educate the public on the false promises and claims of the Democrat Socialists that are running for 2020. Every major lie about Trump, starting with Access America-Billy Bush set up and what Trump really said about Charlottesville altercation, should be revisited by shooting down the media drums of misinformation with the facts--over and over again like they do. We need to destroy the Leftist false claims they repeat incessantly that President Trump is racist, misogynistic, a liar, and dumb. Otherwise the silence convinces the Left that they are the majority.

Excellent commentary as usual. You said everything we have thought but could not verbalize as well. Would love to see this game end but Maxine will spend her entire term trying to get our President impeached. Christians need to pray hard for him and our country.

Your summary of the Mueller is spot on. The Dems and MTM are joined at the hip and feed off each other; very pathetic. The Dems do not address the peoples business and the media does not act as a check on government but colludes with just one side.

Dear Gov. Huckabee: Thanks much for your continued newsletter. With regard to the Mueller investigation: 1) As many people have commented, we desperately need to see the document from Rosenstein that originated this investigation. 2) Then, it needs to be scrutinized versus a copy of the DOJ regulations and guidelines that define procedures to initiate such an investigation. I am certain that such regulations and guidelines call for clear, irrefutable "probable cause," in order to open such an investigation, as even is required for far, far...far, far lesser investigations or charges. I mean, give me a break: Special Counsels only happen every 10 or 20 years and they cost millions. So someone is going to open a $25 million+ investigation without it??? If Rosenstein didn't follow DOJ regulations and procedures, then he is corrupt, and ditto, if Mueller accepted the job and conducted an investigation that was not according to DOJ regulations and procedures, then, he, too is corrupt. So for sure, this originating document is key. 3) I was very impressed with Andrew McCarthy's question of: When did Mueller actually know for sure that there was, in fact, NO COLLUSION? This suggests that Mueller may have been dragging this investigation on and on... and on and on... for some time. It seems interesting that very shortly after Bill Barr, a credible Attorney General gets appointed that the seemingly endless investigation comes to an end. What a coincidence!!! Final note: We can't afford to let the Democrats into the White House for a long, long ...long...long time. If they treat the President of the US this way, how are they going to treat the rest of us once they get back in power??? I fear that investigating a person (for as long as necessary) until they find a crime will become the new norm. Don't believe we want that -- It's not America.

As regards the "why" did Mueller punt on the obstruction issue, and leave it to A.G. Barr to decide, it's as plain as the nose (big one) on his face---he threw his rabid leftist staff lawyers a bone to placate their anger toward Trump--and now we have "shiftless" Shiff and nutcase
Nagel, chairmen of the intelligence committee (how ironic) and judicial committee (laughable) about to launch another round of hearings---
They may rue the day they call in Barr for testimony---I predict he will reveal (again) just how unhinged they are in their determination to
    damage Trump---bring it on!

Dems and the fake media (pardon the redundancy) must keep the "collusion" story alive; they get TV ratings and lots of money from it. There are millions of morbid people who enjoy the untrue, the gossip, the delusional (especially if Trump is the villain).

I just felt the need to tell someone who has the common sense and an important platform a belief that the time
May be right or nearly right, for the nation to be aware that to make America Great Again we must realize that
we may never see the likes of a non-politician in the Oval Office again and nothing short of constitutional amendment or amendments to cure the evils that will only reoccur regardless of how many times you drain the swamp with current laws. This Donald Trump, if convinced by the by the fact that a legacy that could never happen
Without him would guarantee a place in history for all time. Whether a convention of states backed by him or
Other logical means could be brought to bear upon the electorate is for people who are courageous enough to
Use their influence to finally bring the country we all loved as our forefathers did by creating the tools to
Control our political systems as they once did.

Who am I, just an American who will be 90 on July 4 this year...before I go to my promised place I would be
Grateful to see the beginning of a crusade led by God fearing and country loving patriots proceed to

Well done, Mr. Huckaby. I especially liked the idea of firing Comey out a cannon onto the WH lawn. Too bad that did not happen. It is very difficult not to be cynical and bitter after the past 2 year, after watching the MSM and the DemonRats tearing Into our President like the savage animals they are (almost typed "appear to be" but I am being honest) and attempting to destroy his life (assassination attempts, one involving a missile), sowing discord throughout his administration, and even attacking his family (especially his 13-year old son). I cannot even imagine the impact of all this stress upon them and that hurts me more than the political attacks. That was so up close and personal. How can any of them continue to laugh and smile? I think I know. They are privy to the end game and they trust completely in the husband and father they know him to be.

His continued ability to stand stalwartly and face his foes, even flashing good humor, just proves to me that God's hand is on this man we elected whom God provided to our nation in our hour of need. God sustains him, our prayers on his behalf give him strength, and his love for our nation/his nation keeps him going.

Thank you for your commentaries. You give me hope.

Well now that the wheels of injustice have come off the Democrat party's "Salem Witch Trial" wagon, they'll have to replace it with other misdeeds. Since the modern "Salem Witch Trials" have now ended, perhaps they'll realize that, "people living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". However, I believe they will move to the corollary, namely, "those who live in grass huts shouldn't play with fire". As long as they tie up the House of Congress investigating President Trump, they aren't doing the Nation's business. And meanwhile President Trump can roll out his other programs. Meanwhile, I defy any of the Democrat party's leadership to undergo the same "trial by fire" and come out unscathed. Overlooked, of course, is why we have Grand Juries in the first place, namely to curb the tendency of Prosecutorial abuse. Our founders were very wise and knew that investigating people amounts to a huge usurpation of authority by flawed people often more interested in power than justice.

What an excellent view of the whole 2 year witch hunt and now it is time for a major landslide to occur in 2020 election. Our honorable and caring President Donald Trump 80% and Liberal Democratic candidate 20%!! Yes unfortunately I feel we definitely have 20% very gullable and not so bright liberal voters in the Make America Great Again nation.

    Mr Huckabee,
I so enjoy your humor and spot on analysis of the political landscape. I must admit, however, as an American, I am sorrowed at the depth of intrigue the Democrats are willing to go. We commoners have no power in this “Animal Farm” we call our government. We need some hope that Congress will get on with the peoples’business and stop spinning their wheels and our tax dollars on an election they lost. As sad as I was when Obama was elected, I wouldn’t dream of doing half what they seem to get away with.
Our prayers are with the men and women who actually want to accomplish something for the American people and that includes Mr Trump!
    Thx for listening! Keep writing!

You were right-on in your commentary, as was proved on Sunday, 3/24/19 when Barr's summary letter was publicized. I especially liked your summary of the damage Comey started, and your description of Hillary was priceless! I certainly hope that all of the democrats who participated in the false "evidence" that led to the last 2+ years of the Mueller witch-hunt will be held accountable to the full extent of the law---that is, the law that applies to all, not just to certain entities that the democrats pick. Otherwise, there will be no end to this illegal, nonsensical, evil games that the democrats play. It's too bad that current reps & sens that have been and still are so busy trying to bring down Trump instead of actually doing the jobs they were elected for (making laws that help the general public) can't be immediately tossed out of their positions. I pray that the public will wake up and vote rationally in 2020.

Mike, you are SO RIGHT ON! I like to watch 60 Minutes (as long as it isn't a story that is negative to Trump) and Scott Pelley actually reported a statement about the Mueller results without making a snide remark, just the facts. I was shocked; and David Muir was in the studio for the evening news on a Sunday (shock) because of the release of the report and reported it straight. I know that it is too much to expect that the left will accept this without further investigation, but I would sure like to see them get some work done instead. How do we get people to get out and vote, I think that's the answer. I attend as many of you tapings as possible and ALWAYS enjoy them. You are the best!

I believe that the democratic Senate and Congressmen should should have to repay the PEOPLES 20 million Tax Dollars that they wasted as well as lose (return/repay) their SALARIES for all the time that has been wasted on this frivalous investigation, and they have gotton absolutely nothing accomplished in the past 2 years. It is the AMERICAN CITIZENS that have lost in the long run, from all the waste and corruption of the very people that are elected to do a job for us, and have just wasted 2 years of their term. Why should the American People have to suffer and pay for this waste of time and money?

I never doubted our President for a minute! What I doubt is anyone will be held accountable. That is why Republicans lost so many seats in Congress...everyone is tired of their "no action" they are gutless or afraid not sure which but they will not follow through (as has been their pattern), and give the citizens any justice.
Perhaps to stop this kind of garbage from happening again all those democratic members should have to reimburse the budget for the false hoods they encouraged and allowed to continue, costing tax payers over 20 million dollars. If they had to pay out of their own pockets, they may thin about the chaos they cause first and do their job!
Thank You for all you do!

It's finally clear to me how much the communists have succeeded into destroying our democracy. The Russians never stopped fighting that battle. We need to wake up to certain facts. We need to have more real History programs on TV and perhaps an honest media outlet to wake up the the sleeping Patriots.
