Weekend reading: new details on Durham's conspiracy case

By Mike Huckabee

For months --- years, even --- the refrain we heard was “Where’s Durham?” Is he really doing anything? Why would he just disappear for so long? Oh, well, there will never be justice.”

Anyone who wondered what was taking Special Counsel John Durham so insanely long will wonder no more after reading Paul Sperry’s latest update for REAL CLEAR INVESTIGATIONS. Durham is obviously building a huge criminal conspiracy case surrounding the phony Trump Tower-Alfa Bank computer “pinging” story designed to falsely tie the Trump campaign with Vladimir Putin.

Sperry’s detailed article is your weekend reading assignment, though readers of this newsletter will be familiar with much of it. This time, however, Sperry goes on to identify other players. Along with then-Perkins Coie partner and Clinton attorney Michael Sussmann, “Tech Executive – 1” Rodney L. Joffe, current Biden administration national security adviser (!) Jake Sullivan, former FBI analyst-turned-Democrat-operative Dan Jones, and a team of Georgia Tech cybersecurity experts vying for a big Pentagon contract (which they got), we have some new names.

Another top computer analyst who worked closely with Joffe on this project and is named only as “Originator – 1” in the indictment has been identified by her attorney as April D. Lorenzen, who in media stories used the pseudonym “Tea Leaves” and masculine pronouns to help hide her identity. As Sperry reports, the registered Democrat “was tasked by Joffe with making a Trump connection from the data along with the researchers from Georgia Tech, where she had worked as a guest researcher since 2007.”

Investigators have emails that show her discussing how to fake internet traffic to create an “inference” of Trump-Russia connection that wasn’t really there. According to the indictment, Lorenzen “supplied so-called Domain Name System (DNS) logs from proprietary holdings –- the foundation for the whole conspiracy charge –- and helped compile them for the spurious report that was fed to the FBI.”

The DNS system is described as the “phone book” of the internet, translating domain names for emails and websites into IP addresses in order for web browsers to easily interact. The traffic leaves a record known as DNS “lookups.” These are what have been described as “pings” between servers. (We like to imagine them as being like the sonar “pings” you hear in undersea movies, but that’s just for amusement.)

Lorenzen’s attorney, Boston white-collar criminal defense lawyer Michael J. Connolly, says allegations that she did anything wrong are “unequivocally false.” She was acting in the interest of national security, he says. I’m reminded of what Michael Sussmann’s attorney said about him, that he was acting out of his “patriotic duty,” and get the impression that this crowd of Democrat operatives thought “national security” or “patriotic duty” was anything that might help keep Trump out of the White House.

One thing about all this that makes my blood boil is the close connection between political operatives –- I mean, “contractors” –- such as these and U.S. government departments such as Homeland Security. It definitely adds to our understanding of how the so-called “deep state” actually operates. Lorenzen helped found two tech firms, Dissect Cyber Inc. and Zetalytics LLC, which have contracted with the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity division and other agencies. “In that role,” Sperry reports, “she oversees one of the world’s largest and most diverse systems of ‘passive,’ or stored, DNS records, which can be searched to uncover potential security incidents.”

She specializes in identifying the “spoofed domains” that are used in email phishing scams. It seems to me that If anyone knew how to fake a relatively convincing scam involving DNS records, it would be her.

In fact, it turns out to be Lorensen who said in an email, “It would be possible to ‘fill out a sales form on two websites, faking the other company’s email address in each form,’ and thereby cause them to ‘appear to communicate with each other in DNS.’”

Another player not mentioned by name in the indictment is Indiana University computer science teacher and Democrat activist L. Jean Camp, a colleague of Lorenzen’s. She posted the made-up server data on her website and helped push Lorenzen’s fake Trump-Putin conspiracy story in the media, vouching for her friend “Tea Leaves” as “someone with technical authority and access to data.” Around the time she was doing this, she also gave thousands of dollars to Hillary’s campaign.

She was calling for a full-blown FBI investigation of the data she herself had pushed in the media. Her activism continued after Trump was inaugurated; in March of 2017, after the FBI dropped their Trump email probe, she tweeted in rage and called for people to “join the resistance” against Trump. That in itself is no crime, but as prosecutors might say, it “goes to motivation.”

Here’s another new name: Paul Vixie, a computer scientist who reviewed the DNS logs and pushed the story in the media that Trump and Alfa Bank were engaged in a “criminal syndicate.” (Again, Democrats accuse Republicans of what they themselves are doing.) Not surprisingly, he supported Hillary while bashing Trump. “Hillary presented herself as an experienced politician who is prepared to assume the Presidency,” he tweeted in 2016. He referred to Trump in 2020 as a “fake Republican” who “will finish out his life in prison.”

If anyone in this story ends up in prison, it’s not going to be Trump. More likely it’ll be friends of this guy. Providing the FBI with false evidence of a crime is a crime in itself. Mail and wire fraud also appear to have been involved in this conspiracy case.

Sussmann is the one who went to the FBI and passed along evidence that has been called into question. It was in the form of two thumb drives containing DNS logs purported to show patterns of “covert email communication” between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, along with three made-up “white papers” that falsely transformed innocuous marketing pinging between Trump and Alfa servers into a nefarious Russian backchannel.

We should all thank Alfa Bank for fighting this; of course, we have no way of knowing, but it may be why these activities ever saw the light of day. (They also deposed Christopher Steele in a successful lawsuit against him.) They commissioned two studies that showed that the DNS data compiled by Joffe and his friends were formatted differently from the Alfa DNS logs. One of the reports specifically posited that the DNS activity might have been “artificially created.” Independent cyber forensic investigators found other problems as well, such as with timestamps.

Be sure and read Paul Sperry’s article for more details, specifically about the rewards Georgia Tech has reaped since being involved in this activity. On November 17, 2016, the Pentagon awarded them a contract worth $17 million. Its purpose, ostensibly, was to identify and protect the U.S. from malicious cyber attacks. Instead, it appears they went on a political fishing expedition. Since then, their original deal has grown into a $25 million Defense Department contract.

Texas bound

By Mike Huckabee

Elon Musk announced that he’s moving Tesla headquarters to Austin, Texas. Like so many Californians fed up with the state government, he’s already moved there himself.

Fighting back

By Mike Huckabee

A big salute to Florida mom Quisha King, who got a standing ovation at the Family Research Council's annual Pray Vote Stand Summit for her impassioned response to school boards labeling concerned parents as domestic terrorists, calling for a “mass exodus” from the public school system.

This isn’t the first time she’s made news for telling off leftist school boards and their racist “Critical Race Theory.”

From our staff: The ultimate example of corporate suicide

The plague of wokeness has caused a lot of companies to lose sight of what their mission is and who their customers are. But I think we may finally have found the ultimate example of corporate suicide due to woke insanity, courtesy of the lingering digital-only publication that’s all that remains of Playboy magazine. Not that I mourn its demise by any means, but how could anyone there have thought that this is what men who do read Playboy wanted to see? Warning: once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Amazing story

By Mike Huckabee

I know that liberals hate tobacco companies, but you must read this amazing story of some Army paratroopers stuck in a potentially deadly spot during the Afghanistan pullout with (of course) no back-up, and how two cans of chewing tobacco did a lot more to save them than President Biden did.

Massive caravan heading this way

By Mike Huckabee

A massive caravan of 60,000 illegal migrants, mostly Haitians, is heading for the US in the next few weeks, with a second shortly behind. And their leaders are making it clear that they don’t intend to let any government, including ours, keep them from entering the US. As one put it, “with papers or without papers, we are ready for war.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/ready-war-leader-migrant-caravan-says-nothing-will-get-way-making-us/

Of course, we’re not allowed to call them “invaders” because that would be un-PC and insensitive. But what else would you call a 60,000-strong force that declares that it’s going to enter your nation whether you like it or not and considers itself “ready for war”? “Surprise houseguests?"

President Biden seems so proud of himself for “ending” the Afghan War (by making matters exponentially worse.) Let’s see how he deals with this new invasion. They claim they’re “ready for war.” Are we?

The cost of saying no

By Mike Huckabee

Speaking of Biden’s border catastrophe, his former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott revealed that Biden's halting of construction on Trump’s border wall cost taxpayers $5 million a day to pay contractors not to build it.

https://www.westernjournal.com/bidens-former-border-chief-says-admin-spending-5-million-per-day-not-finish-trumps-wall/

This jibes with a July report by Republicans on the Senate Subcommittee on Government Operations and Border Management that between January 20th and July, Biden’s halt to the wall construction cost taxpayers upwards of $2 billion, wasting 20% of the $10 billion allocated cost just to “pay contractors to watch steel rust in the desert.”

I kind of feel like that's the same return we're getting on the President's salary.

Hymnal

REVIVE US AGAIN

To Listen: https://www.godtube.com/popular-hymns/revive-us-again/

1 We praise thee, O God, for the Son of thy love,

For Jesus who died and is now gone above.

Refrain:

Hallelujah, thine the glory!
Hallelujah, Amen!
Hallelujah, thine the glory!
Revive us again.

2 We praise thee, O God, for thy Spirit of light,

Who has shown us our Savior and scattered our night. [Refrain]

3 All glory and praise to the Lamb that was slain,

Who has borne all our sins and has cleansed ev'ry stain. [Refrain]

4 Revive us again - fill each heart with thy love;

May each soul be rekindled with fire from above. [Refrain]

Mike, the Amazing Story you had for October 9, I read another account of it and I’d not call it amazing. That trooper demanded 50 American citizens to get off the plane to load that truck, and they were left behind for the Taliban to kill. So, what’s the right story? It was a reputable article I read on that, although I can’t remember the source. Was a truck bought w/two cans of snuff more valuable that 50 Americans? Just asking for a clarification please. Thank you.

Thank you for adding the hymns to your news. I am really enjoying them. They add some light after reading about
the darkness of all the horrible things going on in the country. It reminds me of who is actually in charge.

INFLATION rate is always discussed in conjunction with wage increase (e.g. COL is up 5% while wages are up 3%). WHY is there no discussion of inflation's effect on RETIREES, whose income is going up at 0%?

Please let Mitch McConnell and Republicans in Washington know that the American citizens wish them to deduct the cost of all the days @5billion per from the proposed budget. Along with cost of everything left to Taliban. For starters
Thank you for the daily truth

Biden must be removed from office the sooner the better. He had turned our nation into a third world country. Gas prices are highest in years as the idiot closed down the pipeline. Our investments are dropping like a rock. Costco is running out of supplies. You get the picture and our national debt has already made us a third world country. We can’t let this senile old man ruin our country any more. He must be stopped. And obvious he is so scared of Trump that he won’t allow him executive privilege. But I truly believe what goes around comes around and every dog has his day and I hope “Old Joe” will have his the sooner the better.
