On Monday, a jury was seated in Wilmington, Delaware, for Hunter Biden’s long-delayed trial on gun charges, with Judge Maryellen Noreika presiding.  In a way, since Hunter allegedly lied on a federal application to buy a gun, this might be called a “falsifying records” case, sort of like what Trump was found guilty of, although the similarities definitely end there.  And Hunter, if found guilty, will NOT be saddled with a zillion felonies and threatened with decades of jail time, you can bet.

Special Counsel David Weiss charged Hunter in 2023 with one count of false statement in the purchase of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance, and one count of false statement related to information required to be kept by a federal firearms licensed dealer.

As you’ve probably heard, this trial is being held not in California, where Hunter resides and where we’d thought he would be tried, but in Wilmington, Delaware, where President Biden resides, has immense political clout, and has been holding court for, what, four decades?  (I think it’s the tax charges that are being litigated in California.)  Jill Biden was in the courtroom on Monday --- it was her 73rd birthday --- with Hunter’s wife Melissa, Hunter’s son-in-law Peter Neal, and sister Ashley (for the first part of the day).  Others attending were (surprise) Kevin Morris, former Biden “body man” Fran Person, and Jill’s top aide Anthony Bernal.  President Biden did not attend.  This, in part, was his statement released by the White House:

“As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength.”  Come to think of it, Biden did keep his distance from Trump’s federal trial as well, though countless Democrat/White House surrogates were out doing the dirty work for him, and as soon as it was over, he reveled in calling Trump a “convicted felon.”

Wilmington is what TOWNHALL’s Mia Cathell describes as “Biden’s backyard.”  Cathell was in the courthouse Monday to provide live updates on the trial.  Her piece, with the links she includes to background information, should tell you all you need to know about what happened today during jury selection.  She even includes detailed notes on the individuals in the jury pool and their responses to questions.

For the jury pool of 250, there were 47 voir dire questions, including some relating to one’s views on the Second Amendment, gun ownership and background checks.  It’s been reported that Hunter’s defense is planning to try to use Second Amendment rights to get Hunter acquitted --- never mind his father’s views in favor of gun control.  Actually, the particular questions included at TOWNHALL seem quite reasonable.  Here’s one that’s particularly interesting:

“Do you believe Hunter Biden is being prosecuted in this federal gun case because his father is the President of the United States and a candidate for U.S. President? Likewise, do you believe Hunter Biden is not being prosecuted for other crimes because his father is the President of the United States and a candidate for U.S. President?”

Hunter’s attorneys are expected to also use the defense that Hunter is being politically prosecuted.  Don’t make me laugh.  You know what?  I think they should tell it to President Trump.  That dog won’t hunt anymore.  No one can really play the “political prosecution” card now, can they?  Because it’s perfectly fine to prosecute over politics.

Actually, if Hunter weren’t Hunter BIDEN, and his only legal jeopardy involved lying on a gun purchase form, a case like this would’ve been dispensed with long ago.  Joe Blow likely would have had a public defender instead of a pricey DC lawyer and pleaded guilty.  The End.

When the issue of having a Delaware trial was brought up on Monday’s THE FIVE, resident Democrat Harold Ford noted that it was the prosecution, not the defense, who requested the case be tried in that court.  But that only serves to make one doubt how serious the prosecution is about getting a judge and jury who are open to a guilty verdict for Hunter.  If both the prosecution and the defense agree so readily on “Biden’s back yard” for the trial, that should tell you something about this case, perhaps that both “sides” are really on the same side.  And you know which side that is. (How about giving him the same level of fairness that Trump got in Manhattan and holding his trial in Wyoming, which Biden lost in 2020 by over 43 points?)

Even aside from that, one does have to wonder how serious the BIDEN “Justice” Department is about getting a conviction of HUNTER BIDEN.

Opening statements are scheduled for Tuesday morning.  But on Monday, Rep. Jason Smith, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, prefaced them with some bad news to Hunter, vowing to send a referral to the DOJ asking to further prosecute him for allegedly lying to Congress during his father’s impeachment inquiry hearings.  The committee has testimony from two IRS whistleblowers that directly conflicts with sworn testimony given by Hunter in February.

Don’t hold your breath for the DOJ to take action on that.  But there’s more.  Smith also plans to press the CIA for more information after Senior Criminal Investigative Agent for the IRS Gary Shapley provided documentary evidence that the CIA tried to prevent congressional investigators from looking into Hunter’s benefactor/”sugar brother” Kevin Morris.  Smith has correspondence in which the CIA tells the DOJ that the IRS needed to lay off Morris.  So, does this mean Morris is a CIA asset?  Does that explain why he interjected himself into Hunter’s life and supported him to the tune of millions of dollars?  What more does the government know about the foreign activities of Hunter and his family?

And there’s still more.  We’ve now seen additional ways that Burisma Holdings might have been getting its money’s worth in putting Hunter on their board, and his law firm at the time benefited as well.  As John Solomon reports, memos seized by the FBI in 2016 and recently obtained by Congress show Hunter Biden helped the U.S. law firm that employed him a decade ago secure a lucrative retainer with Burisma Holdings.  Its lawyers proceeded to draft a 58-page plan to try to extricate the controversial energy company from an ongoing criminal investigation in Ukraine that relied heavily on trying to influence his father’s administration in Washington, according to evidence gathered by the FBI.  This happened just as Hunter was about to join the Burisma board.

“We've been asking for a long time: why is it that Hunter Biden got on the board and was paid millions of dollars from a company that he had no experience in,” Smith said.

Now that the jury is seated, there are six men and six women, with four alternates.  It is heartening to know that the prospective juror who voted for Hillary Clinton, read THE GUARDIAN and watched CNN was struck.  But this piece at BREITBART NEWS will tell you about the ones who were seated.  They seem to be all over the map in terms of their backgrounds and preferred sources of news.

One of them, a woman, used to work for the Secret Service.  It’ll be interesting to see if anything about the Secret Service is brought in to this trial, as we know they were mysteriously involved after Hunter filled out his gun paperwork.  That was at a time when Joe Biden’s family did not receive Secret Service protection, but they appeared to have been following him around and even showed up later at the gun store, wanting the form he’d filled out.  Our guess is there won’t be a peep about that in court.
