The late movie star Steve McQueen is an icon of masculine cool for his roles in films such as “Bullitt,” “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Great Escape.” When you think of McQueen, you think of motorcycles and fast cars and…the Bible?
Well, maybe that’s what we should be thinking of, according to a new biography of McQueen by evangelist Greg Laurie and McQueen expert Marshall Terrell. The book reveals the little-known story of how McQueen began attending Ventura Missionary Church shortly before learning he had terminal cancer in 1979, and how he spent his final days as a devout Christian, helping other cancer patients and sharing his faith even as he was dying and in pain. He reportedly passed away in bed, holding a Bible given to him by the Rev. Billy Graham.
