The big story to watch in politics today will be the election of a new GOP House Speaker.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mccarthy-short-of-votes-as-house-speaker-contest-enters-final-hours

On the eve of the vote, Rep. Kevin McCarthy is still reportedly several votes shy, with some conservatives digging in their heels and refusing to back him. They want someone whom they believe will have more steel in his spine when it comes to conservative principles, like Rep. Jim Jordan (who reportedly isn’t interested in the job because he wants to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.)

The danger in this is that it could lead to a “compromise” candidate or deal that attracts Democrat votes and gives the left even more sway. That’s not likely to happen, but as I’ve written before, as much as I sympathize with the conservative faction, if they don’t have a candidate who can win, then they have to recognize what’s possible and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Redstate.com has a timeline of what will be happening today, along with some predictions, history and possible dark horses and black swans that might make an appearance.

And just to remind everyone that anybody the Republicans put in charge will be exponentially better than having the Democrats in charge, here’s an entertaining write-up from Bonchie at Redstate.com about noted election denier and House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries. He just made a statement that sounds an awful lot like what the Democrats call “insurrection” when it comes from anyone other than them.

I am so fed up with our government and especially the Republicans right now. The need to quit squabbling amongst themselves, get a leader picked, and start doing the investigations they promised they would do.

I am angry with this situation with the Republicans. We voted to have the Biden Administration investigated. If that 20 clowns do not support Mccarthy and get this party united. I will be done with them. Just my opinion.

Hakeem Jeffries may become the next Speaker of the House if those 20 Republicans don't stop screwing around. If that happens I think you will see a mass exodus of current Republicans who are sick and tired of the weak minded, spineless Republican Party. I have been a Republican for 50 years, but I will become an Independent voter if they don't get their s--t together!

The Dems pull together right or wrong but the GOP just spend their wheels fighting within themselves and accomplish absolutely nothing. Why bother voting for any of them when they are carbon copies of everything that is wrong with the government. They are players in the game and we the people are always on the losing side. I am disgusted with the lot of them. The Senate GOP just sold us out with their 1.7 trillion wish list. The woke military does not deserve a dime as a reason. They could have held out and military money could have been designated appropriately for defense and security not woke genderism. The lot of them note worth a dime.

I so hope a decent Speaker is chosen. Americans have suffered under the corrupt outrageous dramatics of Nancy Pelosi and I'm so glad to see her gone.

Dangerous game that I remember us losing in TN because of a Republican Judas.

So happy Sarah is our Governor. love your show and watch every Saturday night. I am up set that some republicans are pushing for De Santis. I really like De Santis but I would like to se Trump win in 2024 and De Santis 2028 and 2032. It would really blow the democrats mind if Trump and De santis were to work together. If De Santis does run for 2024 the democrats will be all over him like they are all other Republicans. I believe Trump won the last election. I wish we would go to paper ballots and all must be counted in one day. I have seen this old trick played over and over for the last 20 years at least. I hope Trump does not attack De Santis. It would bring too much glee to the democrats. also I do not want Kevin Mc Carthy because I think he is close to being a rino and he is not supportive of Trump. He is very likeable but do not trust him. I like Scalise.

Vote number 3 just took place and Ah, Mr McCarthy failed to receive the majority votes. I wonder how many people know that if these Republicans fail to place their own Republican person in as speaker of the house, that a clerk, hand picked by none other than Nancy Pilose herself, WILL BE THE SPEAKER!!! Maybe not for very long but nevertheless!!!! This is an embarrassment for everyone who voted these people in to help reverse the damage that the Democrats have been doing to America. Just another example of petty egos that plague the Republican Party. Why can’t they unite like the democrats? So wrong how they act. God help us all.
