The alleged “blockbuster revelation” of John Bolton’s upcoming book (the claim that President Trump did want to withhold aid to Ukraine until they investigated corruption, including the Bidens) is all the media want to talk about this week, since otherwise, they’d have to cover the way Trump’s defense team is utterly destroying the Democrats’ impeachment case, smashing it into splinters, burning the splinters, then scattering the ashes.
A few things worth noting before allowing yourself to be swept up in this manufactured and conveniently well-timed media frenzy: First, this is yet another “anonymously sourced” New York Times story about the inner workings of the Trump White House, which in the past have proven to be less accurate than most newspapers’ daily horoscope columns. And about that “anonymous” source, no doubt an objective but patriotic whistleblower, right?...
Bolton is getting plenty of criticism from the right for the suspicious timing of his book (and the leak), but possibly none more righteous or well-informed than this demand from his own friend and former chief of staff:
The incendiary claim in the Times headline actually isn’t even supported by the alleged excerpt that they printed. Some analysts say it even clears Trump of the impeachment charges by showing that he did believe Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election, which made it his duty to pressure them to investigate corruption.
Rather than go through all this myself, I'll just point you to the best write-up that I’ve seen. It's by William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, who points out how the Bolton leak follows the predictable template the Democrats created for the Brett Kavanaugh hearings (refined from the Mueller “Russia Collusion” hoax), to inflict maximum political damage and drag out the process by duping moderate Republican Senators into allowing a parade of questionable “new witnesses” whose testimony ranges from absurd to irrelevant.
Jacobson rounds up a lot of facts and commentaries that are worth knowing and getting little attention elsewhere. Plus, I have to quote the reaction to this article from Instapundit’s Sarah Hoyt:
“Even if Trump did everything the Dems allege? Not a crime, much less a high crime. Under this standard every President of the US would be impeached. To quote Frozen, 'Let it go.' Or in this case, tell Schiffty to pack his bag of tricks and go find something more entertaining or productive to do, like swallowing goldfish or learning to apply his makeup so he doesn’t look like Pee-Wee Herman.”
The Democrats never tire of trying to paint President Trump as a “bully,” a “thug” or a Mafia boss. Yet they can’t seem to stop themselves from trying to win their loooongshot impeachment trial by repeatedly threatening the jurors. The latest to channel her inner Don Corleone: Nancy Pelosi:
With all the “Impeachment” hysteria to cover, I haven’t brought you up to date in a while on the Democratic Presidential race. Fortunately, blogger Lawrence Person has posted another of his periodic and comprehensive “Democratic Clown Car Updates.” Surprisingly, since the last update, no candidates have dropped out, not even the ones you didn’t remember were running.
A few highlights and observations:
Bernie Sanders is leading in a number of polls in Iowa, which is making Democrats fear for their electoral chances and me fear for the sanity of Iowa Democrats. If they really think that America needs a socialist President, then I suspect they’ve been turning all their corn crops into corn squeezin’s and chugging them.
Joe Biden took pandering to new heights by declaring transgender rights to be “the civil rights issue of our time.” Sorry, women and girls: your rights to feel safe in private places or to have your own school and professional sports are officially yesterday’s civil rights issues.
We also learn that while Mike Bloomberg might be trying to buy the Presidency with his billions, at least he’s redistributing his own wealth. He’s not only blowing tons of money on ads (you can’t watch anything on YouTube without seeing him promise to make your life better by taking away your guns or some other thing you like), he’s also paying pretty big wages to the people working for his campaign. This could be the only time in years that I’ve seen a Democrat create good-paying jobs, but they’re all jobs working for his campaign or media outlets (same thing, in many cases.) Of course, if I were a journalist at Bloomberg news outlets, you’d have to pay me a lot to swallow my principles and write nothing but negative stories about Trump and positive stories about Bloomberg. But then, that’s not journalism, that’s PR work, which usually pays better.
FYI: Bloomberg may be willing to squander a billion of his own dollars to defeat Trump, but it’s been pointed out that Hillary Clinton’s campaign spent $2 billion, nearly twice what Trump spent, and still lost.
And here’s a story that came in too late for Person’s latest Democratic Clown Car Update: Pete Buttigieg wants the 20 million or so Democrats who consider themselves to be pro-life to know that there is no place for their beliefs in the modern Democratic Party. Well, at least he’s being honest about where they stand on the sanctity of life, so when they claim to care so much about the “children,” you know it means even less than their claim to care about “diversity.”
If the idea behind impeaching President Trump was to smear him enough to depress his supporters and harm his reelection chances, it’s backfiring in the Democrats’ faces like one of Wile E. Coyote’s Acme Roadrunner Cannons. Here’s the latest news that should have the DNC sweating more than the Iowa Bernie surge:
In New Jersey, the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and both Senators are Democrats. Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1 in both Houses of the Legislature. The state has gone to the Democrats in every Presidential race since 1992. It’s considered one of the bluest of blue states.
President Trump is holding a rally tonight in Wildwood, New Jersey, at a venue that holds up to 10,000 people. There were a record-shattering 175,000 requests for tickets. He’s considering holding another rally in New Jersey soon in a far larger venue.
Conclusion: Impeachment is helping turn Donald Trump into the new Bruce Springsteen.
As fans of basketball legend Kobe Bryant continue to grieve his death in a helicopter crash Sunday that also killed his young daughter and seven others, this story reminds us that he would no doubt appreciate all the prayers that are being said for him and the other crash victims.
Joy Villa wasn’t the only person at the Grammy Awards who dared to enter that limousine liberal lion’s den wearing pro-Trump messages. Ricky Rebel, a gay singer/songwriter, transgender activist and (believe it or not) outspoken Trump supporter, wore an elaborate and revealing red lace outfit that included a message on what he thinks about the Democrats’ impeachment mania.
Warning: This link includes a photo/video of a certain part of the anatomy that isn’t normally exposed to public view in polite society, but that’s where the message is written.
