Among the many nostalgic feelings evoked by President Bush’s death was a longing for the days when political humor was good-natured and bipartisan rather than mean and one-sided.  There couldn’t have been a better illustration than the contrast between the current “Saturday Night Live” and the actions of one of its biggest former stars.

Dana Carvey, who famously spoofed the first President Bush on “SNL,” recalled how Bush was able to laugh at Carvey's impression of him, and what “an honor and a privilege” it was to get to know and spend time with Bush, and to work with him at charity events and become friends with him over 25 years.

Meanwhile, on this weekend’s current incarnation of “SNL,” Alec Baldwin returned to his nasty, one-dimensional cartoon portrayal of President Trump (apparently, getting arrested for allegedly assaulting someone gets you only a brief suspension if you’re a member in good standing of showbiz’s “Hate Trump Club.”)  His comments off-screen also made it clear that his impression of Trump is born out of pure hatred.

Ainsworth: The wisdom of Heather Mac Donald; the stupidity of Cornell U.

By Laura Ainsworth

After watching scholar and political commentator Heather Mac Donald on Sunday night’s LIFE, LIBERTY & LEVIN on FOX News, I have to proclaim her as my new hero/heroine. Hearing her speak at length about the evils of identity politics was a real treat, especially considering how few forums there are these days for such views to be detailed. (Heresy!) One great thing about Levin’s show is that, by focusing on one guest for the full hour, they can really settle in for a good discussion.

In Mac Donald’s most recent book, “THE DIVERSITY DELUSION: How Race and Gender Pandering Corrupt the University and Undermine Our Culture,” she asserts that “toxic ideas first spread by higher education have undermined humanistic values, fueled intolerance and widened divisions in our larger culture.” During the interview, she used the Justice Kavanaugh confirmation process as Exhibit A, saying that the last decade of “rape hysteria” on college campuses laid the groundwork for the insanity that surrounded this event, with its “preposterous mantra” that survivors must be believed regardless of those little factors like evidence and due process.

RIP Ken Berry

By Pat Reeder, Staff writer

I know Gov. Huckabee likes to pay respects whenever one of the entertainers who made our childhoods more enjoyable passes on. So it’s our sad duty to report that on Saturday, one of the busiest and most likable and talented, but underrated, TV stars of the ‘60s and ‘70s, Ken Berry, passed away at 85. The news was announced Saturday via social media by Berry’s former wife, actress Jackie Joseph-Lawrence, and his “F-Troop” co-star Larry Storch, who, happily, is still alive and well at 95.

Ken Berry was a terrific light comic actor who appeared on countless TV shows, in movies and onstage, but he was best remembered for the hilarious series “F-Troop” and the sequel to “The Andy Griffith Show” called “Mayberry RFD.” “Mayberry RFD” and several other shows such as “Green Acres” and “The Beverly Hillbillies” were still ratings hits when they were abruptly canceled by CBS simply because they appealed to rural audiences and CBS wanted to chase young urban dwellers. This might be considered the first shot in the media’s war on Middle American conservatives.

More Flake grandstanding

By Mike Huckabee

Outgoing Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake is continuing to block the confirmation of federal judges, in a last-ditch effort to force the Senate to pass a bill barring President Trump from firing special counsel Robert Mueller.  As Utah Sen. Mike Lee (my guess on this weekend’s edition of “Huckabee” on TBN) pointed out when he killed Flake’s last attempt to do this, the bill is blatantly unconstitutional.  Congress doesn’t have the power to tell the President that he’s not allowed to fire someone beneath him in the executive branch.  And even if they did, it would turn the special counsel into an unofficial fourth branch of government, unaccountable to any elected authority.

Apparently, Sen. Flake was too busy ordering “Flake For President 2020” bumper stickers to listen because he’s still pushing his quixotic crusade, which is unconstitutional, a betrayal of his constituents and fellow Republicans, and a pointless waste of time.  If Trump’s judicial nominees aren’t confirmed by the Senate’s adjournment date of December 14th, then he’ll just renominate them in January when Flake is gone and the GOP will have an even larger Senate majority.

As the spokesman for March For Live Action notes in the linked story, Flake might think that he’s making a stand for principles, but he’s just delaying the seating of judges his constituents want approved in favor of grandstanding over his personal wishes. This will become his final legacy, much like Custer's Last Stand became his.  Considering Flake is leaving the Senate because it looked unlikely that he could get reelected in his home state, that doesn’t seem like the kind of legacy you can run for President on.

China trade truce

By Mike Huckabee

I hope this will result in a big boost to the stock market: at the G20 summit over the weekend, President Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for an hour longer than scheduled.  Trump called it an “amazing and productive” meeting, and one that will at least temporarily stave off threatened tariffs on Chinese goods.  They reportedly agreed on a new trade deal in which China will make some major concessions.

Xi reportedly agreed immediately to begin buying more agricultural products from American farmers, and pledged to purchase more industrial and energy products, which should reduce our trade imbalance; as well as offering cybersecurity and property theft concessions.  Trump said Xi also agreed to reduce or remove tariffs on American cars.  China also agreed to label the opioid fentanyl as a controlled substance, which increases the penalties for selling it to the US under Chinese law. In return, Trump put a hold of at least 90 days on his threatened tariffs on Chinese goods, and if China comes through, the tariffs might turn out to be a bargaining chip that never had to be used.

Liberal reporters who kept interviewing factory workers and farmers, trying to get them to denounce Trump for the tariffs, were frustrated at their stubborn refusal to turn on him. But those blue collar Trump supporters understood that we’d let China snooker us for a long time, and it would take hard-nosed negotiations to get them to knuckle under.  That’s why they voted to replace ineffective globalist bureaucrats with a businessman famous for deal-making.

I’m sure many of the factory workers who’ve had to endure the hardships of a long strike understood that sometimes, you have to bite the bullet and hold fast to force the other side to give in. The talking heads on liberal cable TV channels never seemed capable of grasping that concept, maybe because they’ve never gone on strike.  If they did, who’d care?

“Your Tax Dollars At Work”

By Mike Huckabee

NPR was forced to issue a detailed correction after falsely reporting that Donald Trump Jr. might be in legal jeopardy for lying to Congress.  Don Jr. tweeted that he figures that’s as close as he’ll get to an apology from NPR and suggested that they leave the rushing-to-publish phony “gotcha” bombshells business to CNN.

As of the writing of the story at this link, a couple of top Democratic politicians still hadn’t deleted their tweets attacking Trump based on the incorrect NPR story.  I say if they don’t delete and apologize, they should be forced to give back their entire collections of PBS tote bags.

Why didn't McConnell just remove Flake from the committee and replace him? Seems like a simple solution to me and it would have reminded Flake who is in charge.

You know, I am so disappointed in President Trump. I truly was going to vote for him in the 2020 elections. However, is blatant disregard for not allowing hunting of our wild life, "culling" as they call it, when the Bible PLAINLY tells us that GOD is going to deplete our fish and wildlife, we surely don't need man helping the process. I thought Trump was a man of God and that at his age would know more of Biblical teaching. I am overwhelmingly disappointed.
President Trump is also digressing on what the people want, we do NOT want ANCHOR CHILDREN, EVER. IT IS ILLEGAL. CHANGE THE LAWS WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO FIRE OR PUT OUT OF OFFICE BY POPULAR DEMAND, THOSE THE DO NOT FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION. OBSTRUCTIONIST, and TREASONOUS BEHAVIOR SHOULD BE GROUNDS FOR FIRING, IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

while we are busy mentioning every insult hurled at our beloved president, let's remember that he is in good company. Remember how King David was treated by Saul, of course Jesus when so many people said he was from the devil. this is nothing new. it may be best not to keep getting us all upset hearing about the insults. Ignore the devil to make it go away.
