Over the weekend, legal eagle Andrew McCarthy had a column in NATIONAL REVIEW outlining the ways a sit-down between President Trump and special counsel Robert Mueller might go. Even though Trump considers himself to be completely innocent of the accusations of collusion with Russia, as well as obstruction or even the intent to obstruct, the prosecutor will still construct a trap. Mueller might not obtain anything that would stand up in a court of law, but he doesn’t need to. if his goal is Trump’s impeachment by Congress, and the Democrats win the midterms, he hardly has to give them anything at all. The drop of a hat will do it.

For example, in a court of law, a charge of obstruction is supposed to be predicated on illegal acts, or at least criminal intent. So far, there is no crime and no evidence of criminal intent. But McCarthy uses the thorny issue of exactly why Comey was fired to illustrate how skilled interrogators can lead an innocent person to become evasive. Though it seems obvious that Trump was mostly upset by Comey’s refusal to state publicly that he wasn’t the target of an investigation, his comments have been all over the map, and a viper, I mean experienced questioner, like Mueller would know just how to corner him. (One point McCarthy doesn’t stress, however, is that Trump wouldn’t HAVE to answer questions about actions taken that are within his power as President. He doesn’t have to justify such actions, and surely his lawyer will have supplied him with chapter and verse of the pertinent law to offer Mueller if and when the time comes.)

China blinks

By Mike Huckabee

Monday, the Dow gained about 450 points after Chinese President Xi Jinping announced his willingness to discuss opening up the country's economy to foreign investors, reducing import tariffs on cars and other products, and enforcing intellectual property rights, which eased fears of a trade war.

So, let me get this straight: it’s possible that all that back-and-forth bluster about escalating tariffs was just a breast-beating negotiating tactic that President Trump used to face down China and finally force them to negotiate fairer trade arrangements? You mean you can get actually more concessions for your side if you negotiate from a position of strength rather than sniveling, apologetic weakness? Wow, who knew? Someone should write a book about this!

Daily Caller probes Russian propaganda efforts

By Mike Huckabee

In a detailed report by the Daily Caller, a company that tracks data about Russian propaganda efforts claims that “reliable” mainstream media sources (take note, Facebook censors) such as the Washington Post and CNN have used their data to claim that Russian bots were driving traffic and support for conservative media and stories. But they say that’s misleading: bots are only a small portion of what they monitor, and they don’t track bots from any specific group or location. They say they make this clear in all their reports, but the media keep citing their Hamilton 68 Dashboard as proof of Russian bots driving conservative web traffic, which is “inherently inaccurate.”

I like the phrase “inherently inaccurate.” It sounds so much more high-falutin' than “fake news.”

Trump to appoint replacement to 9th Circuit Court

By Mike Huckabee

An important story that got overlooked in all the more recent hysterical headlines was the recent death of Judge Stephen Reinhardt at 87. He was known as the “Liberal Lion” of San Francisco’s 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (and imagine how liberal you have to be to be known as the biggest liberal on that bench!) He was so out of the mainstream, the Supreme Court overturned 24 out of 25 of his decisions they reviewed. But imagine the damage caused by the ones they didn’t review.

Reinhardt was urged to retire while Obama was still President, but he refused. Now, President Trump will have the chance to appoint his replacement on the 9th Circuit Court, which will be about as disruptive as installing a sun roof in Dracula’s Castle. A word of advice to Trump and Senate Republicans: make an appointment quickly and confirm it before November, just in case. Seize the opportunity while you can, and don’t repeat the liberals’ mistake of thinking you have all the time in the world.

Syria response

By Mike Huckabee

We are still waiting to find out what the White House reaction will be to the deadly chemical weapons attack on a Syrian village. The latest word is that President Trump has canceled a planned trip to South America for economic and trade talks to deal with the situation.

Some analysts are pushing Trump to take swift action and obliterate Bashar al-Assad’s air force. But others are urging caution, noting what happened in Libya when the Obama Administration decapitated the government and allowed that nation to descend into chaos, violence and terrorism. Some are even questioning whether the Syrian government was really behind the attack, asking why it would do something that would insure American retaliation at a time when Trump had been talking about pulling out of the region. But government sources claim to have evidence that the attack was launched by Syria, and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley also blasted Russia and Iran for their support of the Syrian regime. So again, we can only just watch and wait.

It is getting VERY SCARY when Clinton buddy Mueller can take what ever he wants. When the gov. is crooked, so are the people. Sessons must be part of the swamp.

Syria - We all know that there is absolutely no way that Asad launched this latest gas attack on his own people. We know this because that paragon of diplomacy and penultimate negotiator, John Kerry, negotiated a deal with them back in 2014 to get rid of all of their chemical weapons. Syria doesn't have any chemical weapons. They promised that they gave them all up. I believe Kerry even got a double pinkie swear from them. (Where is that dang sarcasm font when I need it!)
