Ainsworth: The Roger Stone raid --- is this really America?

January 30, 2019

We’ve had almost a week now to try to digest the FBI’s raid on the home of Roger Stone, and it’s sitting even heavier on the stomach than it did right after the initial shock of it. You know how it is when you feel a little sick, and just have to sit quietly and take shallow breaths? It’s that kind of feeling. Unsettling.

Thanks to CNN --- and I sincerely mean that; it’s important that we have a record of this --- we got a good look at what our government has become in 2019, and future generations will see it, too. If the purpose of having cameras there was to intimidate possible targets and witnesses, it appears to have backfired and succeeded in turning a lot of people into concerned civil libertarians. Not enough of them, though.

The bad news is, there are also a lot of Americans applauding this: the ones seething with Trump-rage, the people who hate him so much that they don’t even care what has to happen to take him down. That’s really the scariest part, because their approval is providing the necessary political cover for an out-of control special counsel, DOJ and FBI. Joy Behar spoke for them all when she said they were just desperate to get rid of Trump. These people (media included) need to try using their tragically inadequate little pea-brains for just a moment and consider what else they might be getting rid of in this gasoline fire they’ve started, such as the possibility of civil discourse and, especially, the integrity of our institutions of law and justice. They’re burning it all down. Maybe they’ll get rid of Trump and maybe they won’t, but we have to ask what will be left when they’re through.

Patricia McCarthy has an excellent piece in AMERICAN THINKER called “Roger Stone’s SWAT team arrest: Are we even America any more?” It sure doesn’t look like it to me.

I find it ironic that at a time when people are screaming about “Russia, Russia, Russia,” we’re seeing the kind of behavior from our own government that we’ve always associated with...Russia. We’re seeing Lady Justice with her blindfold off and her thumb on the scales of justice, giving special people a pass while squashing others like bugs. When we were kids, wasn’t this the impression we had of what it was like to live in a totalitarian nation, one that operated without a constitution that would have limited the government and offered equality under the law? Sometimes adults would warn, “It could happen here,” but we didn’t think too seriously about that, because we lived in AMERICA.

But now, it IS happening here. America in 2019 has empowered its government way too much, especially its unelected judges and bureaucrats. Didn’t we imagine Russia as a place where the State police would arrive in force in the pre-dawn hours to rouse you from your bed, shine lights in your bleary eyes, march you outside in your bare feet, search your house and all your belongings and lock you away in solitary confinement until you “cooperated”?

Well, that’s essentially what happened to Roger Stone –- not the solitary confinement part, though that did happen to Paul Manafort –- in the wee small hours of the morning last Friday. It was absurd: 19 official vehicles showed up, lights blazing, with 29 heavily-armed FBI agents in body armor. They escorted Stone out of his house, took him away and then spent hours searching his home. The man doesn’t own a gun or even an up-to-date passport, he says, and he’s already been under investigation for two years.

When Mueller was appointed to look into Trump’s possible “collusion” with Russia, the FBI already knew that the whole thing was made up, based on a work of fiction by Christopher Steele called the “Trump dossier.” We now know that Justice Department official Bruce Ohr had told the top people at the FBI and DOJ that it was just political “oppo research” that Steele couldn’t even vouch for, yet they used it fraudulently to get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign.

Of course, in Russia, they wouldn’t need a warrant to spy –- they’d just do it. But if our government can fake evidence to get a warrant to spy, and THEN just do it, our protection from its intrusion is illusory.

The most curious --- and damning --- thing to me about the special counsel probe is Mueller’s steadfast refusal to look at any of the “Russia” connections of Hillary and her campaign. (He must have never intended to, either, or he wouldn’t have put an attorney who had worked for the Clinton Foundation on his team.) The “dossier” itself was information that supposedly came from Steele’s Russian contacts. Calling Robert Mueller!

It also appears that the Trump Tower meeting with Don Jr. was likely set up by Fusion GPS through their Russian connections. Fusion GPS was paid by Hillary’s campaign through the law firm Perkins Coie. I’ve just scratched the surface of what stinks like three-week-old sushi. But has the special counsel looked at any of it? No; he's as skilled at looking the other way as Hillary has been throughout her marriage to Bill.

Patricia McCarthy goes as far as to say that the Mueller investigation was set up to “to conceal and obliterate the volumes of evidence of crimes committed by Hillary Clinton; her campaign; and a group of higher-ups in the FBI, DOJ and CIA, all of whom were involved in a scheme to keep Trump from getting elected. All of them have lied under oath and before Congress, yet walk free. Mueller himself was involved in the Clinton scheme to sell 20 percent of U.S. uranium to Russia.”

It should also be said that the mainstream media have done as good a job of ignoring Hillary’s “Russia” connections as Mueller has. That’s something else we increasingly share with totalitarian states: the media serve as a propaganda arm, in our case for the left, and willingly. When dissenters from the right speak up, social media do their best to censor them and are getting better all the time at controlling the flow of information.

Speaking of information, there’s one thing I want to know: who had authority to order the raid on Stone’s house? It seems to me that either Robert Mueller did, or FBI Director Christopher Wray was the one to sign off. Such heavy-handed tactics do fit Mueller’s style –- or at least Andrew Weissmann’s –- but if he and Weissmann get to do this unilaterally, they have WAY too much power and have got to be reined in. Acting AG Matt Whittaker, recently brought in by Trump, is supposed to be supervising Mueller; is he?? And if Wray signed off on this, something is very wrong at the highest level of the FBI.

What good is the Constitution if it’s just going to be ignored? These days it’s easy to imagine it as nothing more than an old parchment in a glass case, to be stared at by tourists and school kids as a relic of our early history. And in short order, if we keep going the way we are, that’s all it will be.

McCarthy’s piece is pretty dark and pessimistic, but, sadly, there’s not one word I disagree with. The big question now is, what are we going to do about it?

It is not that difficult to understand. They ALL have each other's back. Remember when HRC said that if I hang, we all hang.

My question to you is "What can we do about it?" With the Dems and their rampant voter fraud, it won't be long before our elections will look like the last one in Venezuela. The Stone arrest looked like Nazi Germany. I don't think most of the kids that have been indoctrinated in schools understand what is happening. By the time they figure out the pipe dream they've been fed it will be too late

The ongoing political purges and divisiveness of identity politics are reminiscent of the rise of the Nazis. Tom Brokaw is now its latest victim. It has reminded me of the poem, “First they came…”

If you don't know the reference, it is a poem written by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets, group after group. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt and responsibility.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out
    — Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out
—Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
—Because I was not a Jew.

    Then they came for me
—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It speaks volumes about the current State of Affairs and the dictum that,
“Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it” (George Santayana)

Mueller used outdated , unconstitutional tactics that were used to bring down organized crime in the 30's - present.
Mueller embarrassed the FBI by ordering these unnecessary, heavy handed tactics , I guess next time his " Merry Men " will use a B-52
If Mueller really wants to be known as a Patriot, he will stop all this petty show boat crap and wrap this thing up !

Is there ANYTHING middle America can do in the near future to offset the idiots on both coasts? I know another vote will be done in 2020 but in the meantime how many babies will be aborted?, how many terrorists will emigrate?, how many more will be added to the growing number of illegals on welfare? In all sincerity, God help us if the electoral college is abolished! We would be hostages of the coastal people. They will run over us and not bother to scrape the filth off their feet first.

Governor this article is spot on. But everyone is missing the whole story. First of all we no longer have a constitutional republic, we have a political monarchy. The ground work for this monarchy started in the early 90s. The 27+ years of planning is starting to pay off. Look at our education system, who runs our education system now? Then the slow erosion of our once vaunted judicial system! Look at what has happened to the entertainment industry and professional sports! Not too mention the sanctity of our election system! The end run is finally working. The Democrats have learned that if you can't control it, eliminate it, us conservatives. But the one piece that brought all of this together for the Democrats, the biased MSM. Any effective dictatorship uses all means possible to control the masses. Just look at the democratic party now, free everything, you have to get the people hooked, then you can manipulate them to your thinking. The raid on Roger Stone was a show to prove the power that they wield against anyone they deem a threat. Look at the new crop of Democrats coming in! The blatant disregard for everything this country stood for, the Democrats have been winning all along, the smoke screen the MSM through up to cover worked, don't look over here, look over there. Within ten years we will be Venezuela!!! We have one Last chance in 2020 to stop this train wreck that the Democrats have planned for us. Right now there is too much power in the hands of the enept running our country.

This is about a corrupt democrat party and corrupt branches of government who still employ many deep state criminals. The FBI and DOJ are at the top of the list. The jury is still out on the CIA. The hate for Trump-more so a hate for Christian-Judeo principles-is so strong that they will risk losing credibility to attain their goals. The one thing they are confident over is that they will never be charged for their crimes because some of those deep staters are in the republican party. So, I don't expect the attacks to stop any time soon. All we can do is keep being faithful and pray.

The left has been working seriously to overturn the Constitution for over 100 years, it's just now they think being out in the open will gain more accolades. The Prince of Lies is using them as a tool!

I have just about given up hope that we can get America back on track. When the likes of the recent women who have said they are running for President are taken seriously by so many people, there is not much hope left. When citizens elect a silly girl like Cortez who obviously slept through her Econ classes, it is symptomatic of a gravely wounded country. When some think Pussy hats give them status, what hath God wrought. When a pink light flashes ove the 9/11 Memorial to celebrate killing full term babies, who are we? God must be crying. How can do many people believe all of this trash is good for the Country. That is what is frightening. Well, media, you have succeeded beyond your wildest dreams. May God forgive you, as I cannot.

I am now convinced that America is dead. What's worse, there isn't much hope for its return in my lifetime. We have always been the United States of America but now there is nothing united about us and from what is happening in the country, we will never be united with this new breed of anti-americans.

My mother and father were in concentration camps in Germany after having been yanked from their homes in Poland. After the war, my dad wanted to go home but it was a disaster and the British and US encouraged him to come to America since he had relatives here. He also had 2 children - my brother and me (I was born after the war) and he wanted a better life for us. So he embarked on the legal journey with nothing much but papers and the promise of a new life. Of course, it took over 4 years to get everything in order. I bring this up because during my entire life my father would talk about the tactics the Germans used. If my father were alive today, he would tell you that Mueller is just like the Gestapo of World War II; he is the Gestapo of America. This behavior from the Mueller group is despicable and beyond comprehension to a free society. Even worse, that our republican politicians are not fighting the democrats with every bone in their body defies common sense and reason.

I can't even believe that I would write these words. I have loved America from the day I arrived here as a 4 year old and my heart is saddened by what is going on and deemed acceptable by at least half of the society. I also hope and pray that my great grandchildren may be the generation that says ENOUGH and stops the downward spiral of our country. Some of my friends are always bashing President Trump as they have forgotten what a hellish time we had under obama and now 2 more years because hilliary didn't get in but I ignore and disregard the stupidity with which the comments are delivered. I keep asking them as a Catholic, do you support abortion, gay marriage, men in girls locker rooms and bathrooms, letting anyone in the country who feels entitled to come or anyone who wishes to harm us and a congress and activist judges run amok who won't let the president do his job. Of course, most are appalled that I would ask such a thing BUT guess what they keep voting for politicians who support and promote murdering babies.

So I want to know when is the party that says they stand for the people and America going to stand behind the president united against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Thank you and God bless you for being a voice of reason. I can't imagine an even worse world with only the viewpoint of the liberals.

why doesn't someone propose a law to restrict local judges from issuing injunctions against PRESIDENTIAL actions ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

both parties should agree that an individual judge should not be allowed to over-ride the president - - - - - - -

there will be a democratic president some day and this problem should be resolved - - - - - - -

Nancy Pelosi will be put on the spot if she objects, correct ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
