“It’ll eventually come out.  You cannot hide something this corrupt this long.”

So said FOX News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett on Monday’s “Hannity,” speaking in the context of new revelations about James Comey personally stopping an offer of immunity to Julian Assange that would have provided technical evidence of whether or not Russia did the hacking of documents relating to the 2016 campaign.  It’s a stunning story, but before getting into the details, I’d like to make an observation that I think is really important right now.

Going through readers’ comments, I’ve been struck for some time about the note of resignation underlying many of them.  It’s understandable; when Obama was President nothing happened to political operatives --- I mean, “public servants” --- serving under him who misused their offices and/or lied:   Lois Lerner at the IRS, former Attorney General Eric Holder and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, just to name a few.  Some, perhaps most, will never be held accountable in a court of law.  Common sense tells us that Obama was involved, he’ll probably live out his life in a mansion in Hawaii.  Hillary has always skated; she likely will again, though we KNOW what she did (well, a lot of it).  And it’s frustrating when the only wall to be put up is the one around the DOJ.

But the Clinton/Obama years are over.  And we’re going to dig until we reach the dregs of what they left behind.  This is how the swamp is drained; it’s a slow, mucky, often demoralizing process.  We don’t know what’s under there, but we know there are big gators, the kind who went to Harvard and wear suits and carry briefcases.

What happened at the Red Hen was nothing like the Christian baker case

By Mike Huckabee

I wish I didn’t have to comment on the inexcusably rude treatment of a Virginia restaurant owner in asking my daughter Sarah and her family to leave, simply because she disagrees with their politics.  But it became a major news story and seems to be part of a growing trend on the left, as these increasingly desperate losers ramp up the hysterical attacks (“Everyone who does anything I don’t like is worse than Hitler!!”) to cover for the fact that the policies they espouse in all areas are being exposed as hopeless failures, and more and more people are catching on that they’ve been conned. Their fury over their ever-declining influence has reduced them to the level of angry adolescents, screaming, “It’s not fair!!” and lashing out with temper tantrums.

If they can’t even behave like civilized adults, then I can’t imagine voters will entrust them with the vast powers of the federal government (aside from Maxine Waters’ constituents.)  Seriously, does this woman not even remember that one of her own colleagues, Rep. Steve Scalise, missed quite a bit of work after being shot by an unstable Bernie Bro, hopped up on anti-Republican propaganda until he attempted to pull a massacre at a charity baseball practice?  But I digress...

Tweet of the day

By Mike Huckabee

Tweet of the Day, from PJ Media blogger Debra Heine (@NiceDeb): “In the past week, progressives have taken hostile actions against Melania Trump, Kirstjen Nielsen, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Pam Bondi. 6 years after Dems screamed about a #WaronWomen, we finally have one.”

Schumer blocks the bill

By Mike Huckabee

In case you missed this news amid all the media assaults on President Trump over separating illegal immigrant parents and children: Congressional Republicans introduced legislation that would have ended it. But Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer took time out from crying about the separation of these parents and children to block the bill. His excuse: “There are so many obstacles to legislation and when the president can do it with his own pen, it makes no sense. Legislation is not the way to go here when it’s so easy for the president to sign it.”

For reference: there is an obstacle to the President using his pen to rewrite laws. It’s called “The Constitution.” The only obstacle to legislation being passed is Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, who will flood the Potomac with crocodile tears over the poor suffering children, but apparently find it more important to keep the issue alive until the November elections.

Harley hurting

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve said before that when I disagree with President Trump, I say so, and I have been concerned about the fallout to American businesses from the threats of a tariff war.  I understand that he wants real free trade with no tariffs, not a rigged system where only American goods face crippling tariffs.  Right now, he’s playing hardball with his negotiations, and we’re in the “who will blink first” stage.  That’s having some disruptive effects for US farmers and manufacturers (see the story about Harley Davidson shifting some production overseas.)

I’m not going to urge Trump to blink first, but I will urge our trading partners who have benefited for a long time from unfair tariff policies to remember that it takes two sides to engage in a trade war, and neither one of them wins.
