TICK, TICK, TICK...
This morning, in two 7-2 decisions, the Supreme Court allowed Democratic Manhattan D.A. Cyrus Vance Jr. access to President Trump’s personal and business tax returns but denied Democratic Congressional investigators access to them. There are more details on the rulings at the link.
The New York case was sent back to a lower court, so Vance won’t get his hands on Trump’s tax returns anytime soon, and it’s doubtful the public will see them before the election. I say that "the public will see them" because the second Vance does get access to Trump’s private tax returns, I’ll set the timer going to see how long it takes for them to be illegally leaked to Congressional Democrats and the New York Times. Tick, tick, tick…
Here’s another chilling reminder from Hong Kong of how fast your rights and freedoms can be taken away when you let leftist totalitarians come into power.
Wednesday, Attorney General Bill Barr announced the creation of Operation Legend, a federal crackdown to help bring the rampant crime and violence in (Democrat-run) cities under control. Follow the link to see why it’s named Operation Legend. The answer will surprise you. It may also sadden and infuriate you.
"MODERATE" JOE BIDEN UPDATE
If Bernie has his way...he won't be.
A group of Biden and Bernie Sanders supporters are working on what’s called the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force Recommendations, a compromise suggested Democratic platform that appears to be largely cut-and-pasted (plagiarized?) from Bernie’s 2020 campaign platform of straight-up, open-borders socialism.
Here’s an example of the kind of “moderate” policies you’re likely to get under a President Biden: not only would the estimated 11-22 million illegal immigrants currently in the US get amnesty (and Obamacare), and virtually all immigration laws and border controls be removed, but the US would be declared an asylum for all the world’s migrants. That’s currently estimated at about 160 million, or roughly half the current US population.
TRUMP: SCHOOLS SHOULD OPEN
There’s a debate raging about whether kids should return to school in the fall or if it’s still too dangerous because of the coronavirus (even though the virus death rate for people under 18 is just about zero.) Many Democrats insist on keeping schools closed, claiming it’s for safety reasons, although Republicans suspect they want to keep everything shut down until after the election to inflict maximum pain on America so that voters will be too angry to think straight and will vote for them.
President Trump insists that schools should open, and here’s a story about a mom who agrees and makes a strong case.
On the other hand, to paraphrase “Field of Dreams,” if you open public schools, will anybody come? A new USA Today/Ipsos poll found that 60% of parents say that even if schools reopen, they’ll likely keep homeschooling their kids anyway. Sure, many cited fears of the disease, but I suspect that for millions, they’ve discovered that their kids do better with individual learning supervised by parents. I also suspect that they’re looking at the streets filled with brainwashed, anti-American, underemployed, communist, gender studies majors and realizing that they no longer want to entrust their kids to the leftist indoctrination factories.
My writers, Pat and Laura, gave me a personal anecdote to back this up: a friend of theirs who came to the US from Great Britain became successful here and is very patriotic and pro-American. He was so successful, he could send his kids to the “best” schools. So his daughter went off to college and returned home a raving anti-American socialist. Over the holidays, she went on a rant against America, and he finally had enough and read her the riot act about how all of the privileges she’s enjoyed are a direct result of him coming to America. Fortunately, it appears her younger brother is rebelling against her by becoming an Alex Keaton-like conservative, so there is hope for the younger generation, as long as they’re not sent to schools that ruin them.
Last week’s Supreme Court ruling requiring states to allow faith-based schools to participate in K-12 scholarship programs is also a big blow to the leftist education establishment and a big win for parents and students.
This sudden rejection of the liberal education system has the educationists so terrified of losing their captive audience that in Great Britain, liberals in government announced plans to fine families who dare try to keep their kids home.
This is all the more reason why parents in the US need to go to the polls in November and vote for candidates who support school choice. This is especially important for minority parents whose kids will otherwise be forced to attend failing inner city public schools. And just to be clear: those candidates are NOT the ones with a (D) by their names.
FOLLOWING SCIENCE BILL? TRY AGAIN.
Speaking of school starting, no matter what the issue, you can always count on New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio to come up with the worst possible response. He’s declared that since 75% of New York parents want schools to restart, he will allow schools to reopen, but only on a part-time schedule.
Naturally, he used the occasion to bash Trump and boast that he is following the science, but nothing whatsoever about this decision makes logical sense. It still forces parents to scramble to try to find child care, while depriving the kids of full-time schooling. And how does it prevent any spread of the virus if the kids and teachers are still going to be together in the classrooms part-time? Does the virus only spread in full-time classes? Or did he make a deal with it not to spread during part-time classes, the way it doesn’t spread at leftist protest rallies, only at pro-Trump and anti-lockdown rallies?
My personal theory is that he’s afraid if New York kids are fully educated, they won’t grow up to vote for incompetent leftists like Bill DeBlasio.
