Friday afternoons are typically the time for news dumps –- thousands of pages of emails and such –- but this Friday brought us so much breaking news concerning the FBI and special counsel that it’s a challenge to sort it all out. Most news outlets aren’t bothering to sort, though, preferring instead to get hysterical and sensationalize any report that even hints the President is in hot water.
Don’t buy it. We’re getting a clearer picture of what Russians were trying to do to interfere in our election (and that was supposed to be the purpose of the investigation, right?), but from what I’ve seen, Trump is not implicated at all. You’d never know that from looking at mainstream media, though. Be advised: If you spend much time reading/watching it this weekend, your brain is going to turn to pudding and then Joy Behar will start sounding to you like a profoundly intelligent person. This has been yet another news day that can be compared to the hysteria over the “milk-drinking” statue of Ganesha in India.
Trump is not in hot water. Know who is, though? The FBI and all the usual suspects who were there for the 2016 campaign. Here’s a suggestion: while I work on making sense of all the special counsel news for Monday, this is one story that would be good to read now. It’s from John Solomon, who, while breaking one big story on the Clinton Foundation, also brings us huge new evidence of the FBI’s deliberate misuse of a fake “dossier” to lie to the FISA court and justify spying on associates of then-candidate Donald Trump. The operative word here is “deliberate”; this evidence shows they knew exactly what they were doing.
