Yesterday, we wrote about a letter from a newsletter reader whose son is one of those incarcerated in the wake of the Capitol breach on January 6. (His son is one of those who didn’t even go inside the building.) Imagine how it must be to have one’s son being held in jail by the feds, with no bail, for many months (like a murderer), awaiting a trial that might not even happen until sometime in 2022. It’s not even possible for the father to have a private conversation with his own son, as phone conversations are monitored at the jail, and the son isn’t even able to meet in private with an attorney. All of this, I feel compelled to remind you, is happening in America, the land of the free.

In case you didn’t see the father’s letter and our response, here it is.

After this piece ran, we received a comment from another reader who took exception to what the father had said about his son, saying the son had nothing to apologize for and was even a hero. In fact, her letter ended in a way that seemed downright abusive to the father. (It’s all too easy to get abusive towards people we only talk to online, people we have never met and don’t know at all.) We thought this reader’s questions and observations deserved to be addressed at length. First, here is her letter...

(From Sharon)

Just a couple of questions about the father of the Capitol Hill detainee:

First of all, why would black people not support Trump people?

Because most black people do but then again these were criminals.

Also, the father says what his son did was wrong? Oh? Getting in the way of Goebbels and the Gestapo?

My father saw combat in Korea and Vietnam and if that’d been me he’d have been cheering not saying I’d done wrong.

Mister your son did right and he is a hero and if you don’t stand with him shame on you.

………………..

Dear Sharon:

Thank you for responding; we welcome responses from all sides. But I think some issues here cry out for clarification.

The father, Keith, did mention in his letter that most of the inmates at DC Correctional were black –- as are most of the residents of Washington, DC –- and that in general they were dismayed to have Trump supporters in their midst. That is not surprising and is not the same as saying black people don’t support Trump, only that these particular black people in Washington, DC, did not. And while the black conservative movement is picking up steam in some parts of the country, most black people are still not a part of that. We can deny reality if you would like, but these inmates of the DC Correctional facility, who do happen to be mostly black, are not Trump supporters. Probably some of the white ones aren’t, either; after all, this is Washington, DC. On the bright side, once they learned Alan was a Trump supporter and not a pedophile, they treated him better than they treat pedophiles.

Recall that according to the letter we previously posted from detainee Joe Biggs, some of the black people Biggs met in a Florida correctional facility were struck by what a nice guy he was. They liked him. It wasn’t the black men, but some of the white men identifying as white supremacists, who didn’t want to be associated with him. They said he was “too nice” to be in their group.

In fact, Joe said that one thing he’d learned for sure after meeting real white supremacists in this jail was that he WASN’T ONE.

Sharon, you criticize Alan’s father for saying that what his son did was wrong. We don’t know the details of the confrontation his son had with police and a reporter outside the Capitol Building, but the son does, and if he feels contrite and believes he was in the wrong, I think we should take him at his word. You know I’ve said myself that this confrontation was a bad idea and has had terrible repercussions. I’m not sure you understood me when I said the left is using this for great political benefit. In that sense, anything that was done at the Capitol Building that went beyond peaceable assembly was indeed wrong. If this young man realizes that, so much the better.

You may say he did right to fight against “Goebbels and the Gestapo,” but, again, we don’t know exactly what went down and his part in it. According to his dad, since he’s come to the Lord he’s thought deeply about the kind of man he wants to be. He’s sorry for what he did. His father respects that, and I think we should, too.

The thing that really stood out to me in this father’s letter was the dismay at the two-tier justice system. “I guess if you are a Democrat,” he said, “you can burn a city or burn a federal building with agents inside it; you may be arrested but will be out the next day without bail.”

This young man does NOT deserve to be languishing on a lower rung of our “justice” system simply because he is a Trump supporter, and he absolutely does not deserve to be held for many months with bail denied. As I’ve said, he and the other “detainees” (political prisoners) are being used as political props for the statecraft that is Nancy Pelosi’s investigatory “commission,” when they should be treated with exactly the same rights as any other American. Direct your fury at THAT, not at a father who is hurting and thinking about his son.

This is such a Sham! Everyone has Constitutional Rights and unless nancy can manufacture or PROVE this person is indeed such a menace as to not even be allowed Due Process, I'm thinking he should become a Very Wealthy individual. Even the Detainees at GITMO are treated better! I'm in agreement with your that Justice MUST be Served and someone in the Justice Dept should have the courage to LEAK the Video! IMHO that person would be a Hero even if he/she bends some laws in the name of JUSTICE.

Sad to read another account of appalling treatment of 1/6 political prisoners, esp after seeing yesterday’s video of congressman coming to visit facility being denied access. Nothing fishy here!
I too am torn between protestors being heralded or condemned but you said it right, we don’t know the facts of that case so leave it between the son, his father, and his Lord.
Just a note on another article - in your list of conservative news sources you didn’t include Newsmax. Surprised me, esp since you included Fox and I feel them getting very lefty. Any particular reason?

What I saw on television of the January 6th debacle were the ordinary BLM and anarchists that had been tearing up the other cities, only they had changed clothes and hats. Same ol' same ol'. When it gets down to it, the dumocrats will be looking at themselves in the mirror.

WELL BEING SHE WAS THE OLDEST, MY MOTHER IN LAW ---(our BIG MAMA) (THE WHITE LADY) ---LITTLE BROTHERS WALKED THE LINES OF THE OLD HOME PLACE WITH THEIR SQUIRREL GUNS. AND WHEN THE PARENTS CAME TO GET THE PRECIOUS WELL FED BABY, OUR BIG MAMA CRIED.>>>>YEARS LATER, BECAUSE I HAVE A WRITER MIND ASK QUESTIONS----"BIG MAMA ---why did you do it.??? AND OUR PRECIOUS BIG MAMA TOLD ME----"THERE WAS A LIFE, A PRECIOUS LITTLE LIFE, & YOU DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO SAVE A LIFE." We, true CHRISTIANS all have stories, we need to write love stories of CHRISTIAN LOVE AND HOW GOD HAS BLESSED THOSE PRECIOUS ONES. Love everybody and tell True stories of history. I believe, after antifa and BLM set the stage and example, that the only way for your voices to be heard was to cause a ruckus, that this what the people thought they needed to do, to be heard. I think Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris and all the Democrat party, encouraged agitators to come and help encourage the crowd to agitate. I think Nancy Pelosi is deliberately behind The rolls in which encouraged people to go into the People’s house. Democrats needed to have ammo to counter react the ongoing riots in all the democratic cities. Nancy Pelosi is it definitely a leader
Of lies and deceit. Without good Leaders, people make bad choices on their own. None of These people were there with guns or weapons of mass destruction! There is a difference between antifa, BLM and Trump supporters. On January 6, Most of all these people were patriotic and were peaceful, while presenting their grievances to the government. I think the Democrat party is trying to ruin America and all of its laws and especially the constitution that this government is based on. The only thing that makes us great is the constitution and it’s Bill of Rights and the law abiding citizens that follow it. Antifa and BLM are domestic terrorist groups and should be in prison. They have ruined many communities. Antifa is a form of KKK. If you look at them, they are mostly white people that are destroying black communities and encouraging black people to commit crime in the name of justice. This type of behavior makes one stereotype races. Antifa is definitely a white supremacist group. They are causing racial divide and making all colors of people fight for a righteous Cause, all under The deception in the name BLM. I can’t understand why black people don’t see they are being fooled and coned one more time by the Democrat party the actual white supremacists. Patriotic, American first, Trump supporters are not The problem in America. It is the self loathing, self hating, God hating, lovers of distruction And anti-Americans that need a wake up call. The USA was founded on the constitution and is The most desirable place to be because of the rule of law. I think we should trade antifa and BLM members or everyone in Cuba. I am absolutely shocked and utterly disgusted by the history of the Democrats, that everybody conveniently forgets about and disgusted with the politicians getting rich off of backdoor deals. The corruption in government and the churches is disgusting and without government officials Going to jail And churches being accountable by the Bribes they take and all The prosecutors that won’t prosecute, have increased the chances of America ever recovering. This is America it’s not the European colonization. Obahma and the Clintons should be in jail with the Bidens, and The Pelosi‘s and half of the Democratic Party. I could go on with names but I think you all know who they are. The churches need to stand up. I am disgraced that the churches are not louder. They could lead the charge and they sit in silence because of the government kickbacks behind closed doors. Money and greed have ruined half of America. People don’t even know what it’s like to suffer here and they cry such pitiful stories. I am not ashamed to be an American, I am ashamed of the people in America that don’t want to be Americans. Keeping people in jail without due process is absolutely against everything that this country stands for. And everyone that has indulged in this process should be prosecuted and put to the same standards. I am tired of the double standards. It’s time for an eye for an eye. I don’t know about you but any thing I’ve ever done, if I cheated, I was disqualified. No matter how little the cheat was or no matter how big the cheat was. This anti-American group of people in the White House should step down. I am ashamed to have leaders that are trying to destroy us and military leaders that are not fighting for what America is. There are a bunch of cowards in this world. USA used to be strength and peace. Now it is all weakness. Men don’t want to be men anymore and women don’t want to be women anymore. And the most disgusting thing altogether is what adults Are allowing to be done to the children. They are being used as experimental specimens. I’m so glad my kids are grown. Because half of the stuff that is going on right now, in my eyes, is child abuse. Leave your sexual behaviors in your bedroom. Keep them out of our schools and keep them out of our library‘s and keep them out of our streets. I don’t care how are you live your life. You have your own judgment day. I am not here to judge you. But I am tired of you throwing your sexuality in my face. Leave The damn children alone so they can grow up and be who they want. Not who you are trying to make them be. It is so disgusting and discouraging to see the churches sit back and allow these children to be abused. I pray for America.

I love your candor and honestly, Mr. Huckabee. I also hope your daughter wins her campaign.
The division in this country troubles me deeply. I cannot keep the tears from my eyes. It hurts to have grown up believing we were a great country, and now to see patriotic people who also love this country being treated like criminals without the right to the due process we all have come to expect in America.
Talk about a messed up situation. No one knows who can be trusted to tell the truth anymore. Seems like biblical times indeed. We are in the end times with no doubt. Perhaps you should consider making the "Daily Bible Verse" from "Isiaih 5:20-21 -- The Song of the Vineyard (Luke 13:6-9) -- 20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"
I am so sad for our country now, with an administration that has revived Obama days and absolute hate for what we once stood for, I barely know what to say anymore. This passage comes to mind as well: Mark 13:20 “And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.”
May the wonderful God of Moses, Abraham and from the line of King David bless us and watch over us all, and may He keep the evil at bay.

There are several things that bother me about the Jan 6 detainee situation. First of all is that these men and women were called domestic "terrorists" and democrats refused to address those who were looting, tearing down businesses and setting them on fire anything other "peaceful" protesters. WHEN there were any arrests (not many, police were told to stand down) they were released (did they have to pay bail) and leftist da's have declined to prosecute the most of them. Haven't read where any have been prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced--but I could have missed it if they did. There are many on the left (and that would include those in govt) who want to call any conservative as right-wing extremist. But, heaven forbid anyone call THEM extremists. Heck, even the Fort Hood murderer was not called a terrorist for many years. Why should not the people involved on Jan 6 be treated as well as the criminals in NYC who, arrest, see judge, get a hearing date, come in or not, go back out and commit crime--rinse, repeat, etc. Or like the illegals who come in, they get a hearing date--set loose in the vast country and--gee, no show for hearing, oh, well, got more to hear.
