Michael Horowitz’ testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, in combination with the report he released Monday, has blown the lid off what was done to infiltrate Donald Trump’s candidacy and, later, his Presidency. Investigative reporters such as John Solomon and Republicans in Congress such as Devin Nunes --- and his former staffer Kash Patel --- were vindicated. (So was Team Huckabee.)  Good heavens, it’s even been confirmed that the FBI’s “briefing” of Trump was really cover for an agent to investigate (SPY ON) him! But if you watched the mainstream media’s version, it was the opposite of this. You were told there was no spying, FBI officials were not biased, and they were justified in their actions.

In other words, you were gaslighted. You were LIED TO.  CNN reportedly was even cutting away to other news during much of the Republicans’ time, presumably so there wouldn’t be anything said to challenge their narrative. And you didn’t have to be watching CNN or MSNBC to be given this false picture. Maybe you got it from your top-of-the-hour radio newscast.

Despite what the media tell you, Horowitz made it clear with his careful choice of words that he could NOT say there was NO political bias driving the FBI’s investigation of Trump --- only that he was never provided with documentary or testimonial evidence of bias. In other words, no one provided him with a document or testimony literally saying, “Sure, we did all this to Trump to prevent him from being elected President or to get rid of him.” Lacking something that definite (some of the Strzok/Page tweets came close but could arguably be open to some interpretation), he simply didn’t make a determination either way, leaving it for U.S. Attorney John Durham and Attorney General Bill Barr to deal with that question.

That’s why Barr says now that “these irregularities, these misstatements, these omissions were not satisfactorily explained. And I think that leaves open the possibility to infer bad faith,” he said. “...I think that further work has to be done, and that’s what Durham is doing.” He means, stay tuned.

Andrew McCarthy made a great point Wednesday night in an interview with Shannon Bream on FOX NEWS AT NIGHT: that in the real world, you just don’t get the kind of evidence Horowitz apparently required. “If you were to try a case as a prosecutor, or any kind of trial lawyer, to a jury of Justice Department lawyers, and they all thought the way that Horowitz presented it today, you would never convict anyone. Thank God we actually try cases to common-sense people, because you never get positive evidence; you never get testimony of somebody who says, ‘I’m biased,’ or there’s some document that says, ‘I’m biased.’ What ends up happening is you evaluate the conduct that’s placed before you and you draw rational inferences from what people say and what they do.”

Sen. Ted Cruz gave a good hypothetical example of that kind of common-sense judgment: “I can tell you when I was at DOJ, if someone said, ‘Let’s tap Hillary Clinton,’ or ‘Let’s tap Bill Clinton or John Kerry,’ the people there would have said, ‘What in the hell are you talking about?!’” When it came to Trump, though, nobody in this sorry group brought them back to reality. It’s hard to imagine any other possible reason to even suggest such a scheme besides toxic political bias. And this went even further, to the point where someone falsified evidence.

Committee chairman Lindsay Graham put it more succinctly: “It was as if J.Edgar Hoover came back to life.” He meant the renegade FBI, the intimidating FBI, the one that didn’t care at all what the law said as it moved to find out everything about you and what was going on in your life., and maybe to destroy your life.

Another key point: the reason Horowitz considered the opening of “Crossfire Hurricane” to be justified is that the threshold for simply opening an investigation at the FBI is quite low. (Surprise!)  Getting –- and renewing –- a FISA warrant, though, is a big deal, as it gives permission for extremely intrusive surveillance (SPYING) on an American citizen. To reach that threshold, the FBI had to lie. And Horowitz said that to determine what motivated that, the question of bias became “murkier and more challenging.” Indeed.

You wouldn't get this information from most news reports. The coverage has been shameful. It’s come to this: most political “journalism” today is garbage, and that’s putting it as mildly as I can. It makes one wonder, when they talk about “reform” of the FBI and the FISA process, will there ever be any “reform” of the media? Not censorship, mind you --- I would never call for that --- but more objectivity and accountability to their increasingly wary audience if they want to stay in business.

There are some noteworthy exceptions to this gigantic media fail, such as Matt Taibbi’s withering criticism of the FBI “clown show” and its flying media monkeys. (This comes, as Trey Gowdy told Martha MacCallum, “two years too late,” after “they vilified Devin [Nunes]...Paul [Ryan?]...Kash Patel, Johnny Ratcliffe...”) Taibbi is definitely not a Trump fan, but he seems to have seen the light on this. I can’t remember ever recommending an article from ROLLING STONE as a must-read, but they say there’s a first time for everything...

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/political-commentary/horowitz-report-steele-dossier-collusion-news-media-924944/

Here’s a great piece by Eddie Scarry in the WASHINGTON EXAMINER (written after the release of the IG report but before Horowitz’ testimony) showing why the bias should be easy for investigators and the media to see --- should be but isn't. Highly recommended...

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/michael-horowitz-found-intense-bias-against-trump-in-the-fbi-he-just-refused-to-call-it-that

Oh, and it’s not just the media, but the major players in this farce who are also still LYING. Former FBI Director James Comey is still trying to present himself as Mr. Innocent in his tweets and on TV and is taking an unearned victory lap after the release of the report, which doesn’t come close to vindicating him –- just the opposite, in fact. Much in the report contradicts the “My-understanding-was” and “I’m-not-aware-of-that” claims Comey made in his interview with Bret Baier last year, particularly those relating to the role of the Steele “dossier.” (I wonder if Chris Wallace will call him on those whoppers if and when they have their scheduled interview this weekend.) Comey has a lot of experience and expertise when it comes to deflecting blame off himself. But Horowitz said outright that NO ONE involved in this has been vindicated by his report.

We know now that by January of 2017, the FBI was well aware that the “dossier” was a steaming load of...um, unverifiable fiction, but continued to spread it around anyway and sign renewals of their original FISA warrant application. And whose signature did we see there? JAMES COMEY. At this point, he should just shut his trap, crawl under a rock and wait to be indicted.  Process servers can just follow the slime trail.

Finally, there’s the distressing matter of status-quo FBI Director Christopher Wray. Eddie Scarry (again) at the WASHINGTON EXAMINER shares my skepticism that Wray is the one who can "make the FBI great again." He's not.

Chris Wray did not debunk Ukraine's 2016 meddling. He said the FBI has 'no information'

I am not going to get into the political details we are hearing day after day. But I will say this. Our nation is a joke to the world. How much further advancements in science, quality of life for many, etc. could have been at this point with all the monies spent on this vendetta? Shame, shame on the few who have set out to destroy one man for their agendas. I can imagine a time in the future when their names will go down in infamy. May God forgive you for what you have done.

Once again the train just keeps rolling along. I thought (really hoped ) that once this ( just another) report was released that the train would start to come to a halt. But , evidently that is not going to happen here either . Many say wait until the 2020 presidential election and we can vote some of these people out of office. I don’t see much hope for a real change now or then either. The real criminals are still walking around and many innocent ones are trying to stay above water .

How has the value of GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT PLANS increased over the Trump presidency? That may impress some folks who are not natural Trump fans.

This whole charade, since the President has been duly elected, is something that our REPUBLIC is being challenged on. We are not a democracy no matter how many times Nancy says it or the media say it. Yet, our country is being railroaded into the destruction of the values WE THE PEOPLE hold near and dear. God help us in our future.

yep, Mike some of the media is starting to wake up. Not very many but a few. As for Horowitz, we must be aware of what he didn't know and was not able to find out. The fact he said no bias? If he read the text of Strok and page, that should have been ample proof. Bottom line; FBI KNEW without question the dossier was crap and used it to renew anyway and then purposefully lied. Did Lisa Page alter documents? If so, her suit is a cover up for her crime and her abject hatred. And she is crying because we exposed her? That is NOT the sign of a mature adult. But... As Joe Di Genova says "Comey's going down." he knows it and I think that is why he's so vocal. I've also heard "Things are not gonna get any better for the libs" Declas comes next and all that stuff libs thought would not get out is exposed. Mike, what should we have with all our popcorn? A possible menu? ha, ha!

What the FBI has done and allowed to be done is for shame. The CIA NSA FBI are a source of crimes against they American people. These agencies must adhere to oversight categorically or be disbanded.

    Dear Mike:

I wanted to make a few comments on the IG report that a few people might not get. I haven't looked at the report but I know enough about the process to be sure of certain things. This was an audit of the process that was made on procedures that were or were not followed. As such, it would be out of scope, to make inferences or recommendations that might lead to the conclusion that there were crimes that violated statutory authorities.

in the organization I worked for, the IG had two separate units, one for auditing and the other for criminal cases. In my experience, they very seldom crossed over. It would be the responsibility of someone at a higher level, a top manager or a supervising attorney, to refer for criminal action.

As such, the personal interviews the investigators conducted would have been very narrowly focused. In fact, I think those 17 discrepancies they found probably came from a comparison between the judicial application and the case file. They really haven't talked to anyone about this yet. You will not find many interview notes in the file.

Most importantly, I don't think you will find any email or at least very limited email correspondence has been collected. There should be a lot of that for the time frame the application was made to the judge and any required follow ups per the judge's order. That is what will make this matter very interesting. A lot of the material will be redacted of course but in discovery, you could find out who received copies of the correspondence.

I am assuming this will be pursued in good time. We are probably best advised to leave it alone. But I think a lot of that material eventually should be subject to FOIA if it has not been classified as attorney client work product. I am sure it will make the news if they do pursue it as a criminal matter.

As an aside, although it will be redacted as to the name and identity of the whistle blower, the complaint alleged on this Ukraine matter should be dated and have the distribution list on it. I don't think that can be hidden. Even if the FOIA is addressed to the CIA or preferably the DNI, it should be possible to get some answers. ,

I think the FBI needs to change their name to just Federal Bureau or Federal Bureaucrats. Under Comey and Wray they leave out investigating. Didn’t investigate spygate Steele and now Ukraine.

Hey Governor, this whole thing somehow reminds me of a bunch of rats piling over and around each other trying to get a small morsel of food. Sooner or later they will end up on the floor in a pile and the minute they look up the American people should if not will say “ stop this game, do your job or take it down the road “. Yes we need people like Donald Trump to get this country straightened out. God bless you and yours Governor. Heidi

Thanks Governor. I too agree with a remark made from one of the other person's comment about Chris Wallace. Now, I think the democrats are keeping this going to confuse the public. I've been pretty much watching this circus since it begun & can't believe the opposite opinions & how everything is turned around. I pray US Attorney Durham finds all the wrong doings that went on & people are criminally charged. (Which I'm not sure about anyone will go to jail.) May be Wray better get on the stick after all of this mess.

Your reports are the first thing I read in the morning, and the last thing I read at night. You are able to invoke your humor, while still delivering the point rationally. I just want to say thank you. You are an American treasure. I am still intensely concerned about this entire impeachment process, and Christopher Wray's leadership at the FBI. He does not seem particularly urgent about flushing out these bad actors, answering long standing FOIA requests, or sealing important documents for the next 25 years. I do not understand why Barr does not hold him accountable for the continuing corruption of the FBI. Also, why isn't Barr reviewing his own DOJ with some urgency to review the "mueller cover up" because Mueller and his team were just working on covering up their own illegal actions, and to hide the DOJ abuses throughout this coup. There never was a Mueller investigation of Russia meddling in the 2016 election. The way that Rob Rosenstein engineered the genesis of the "Mueller investigation" needs scrutiny. In totality, these Trump-haters all displayed monumental hatred (I call that bias) and covertly took actions that amount to a coup. I want all this investigated, and I want these people to be held accountable.
    Sincerely,
    Kat Kemmer

I believe the Republicans in the senate should flip it on the Democrats and say that they will hold a trial but do an "investigation" first using the same rules. Then put out an exhaustive list of witnesses that they will call including Mr. C ("the whistleblower"), Hillary, Obama, Holder, Steele, Biden, his son, Shiff and his staff, Palosi and her son and daughter, Brennan, Comey, Current and past Presidents of Ukrain. But they have to get everyone's phone records first. Yeah, this is JUST an investigation to see if a trial is needed... the trail, if needed, would come later.

The American people need to know the truth about everything that has been done to try to remove our President from office. The media doesn't report unbiased news any longer. What has been done against our President those responsible including Firmer President Obama & Hillary Clinton need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Thank you Mr. Huckabee for keeping us informed as to what is really true.

Governor: You are exactly right about the mainstream media (ABC,CBS,NBC, & PBS-the one's I flipped back and forth on) is saying totally opposite of what you have observed and reported from the Horowitz report and testimony. Can anything ever be done about the propaganda and lies of the mainstream media? It is sickening, because we know that way too many people get their news from the mainstream media. The current bunch of mainstream media is no better than the foreign media and their propaganda and lies to their people. The Democrats and the mainstream media are so closely knit together and it is absolutely sickening. We can shut them off and not listen to the mainstream media (I do most of the time) but it doesn't change their lies, bias, etc. that they project to those who will place great emphasis on what they hear and call it truth, when it is definitely not.
Still hoping for accountability, justice and hopefully criminal charges against so many from the past administration and way too many in the House, the FBI, CIA, DOJ, etc., but getting more than frustrated that nothing is going to change !!!!!!

My response to two of their statements.. First, as to what could have driven these actions ...did it did not Hillary say that if she goes down, half of DC is going with her? I'm wondering if they're scared. Secondly, on what to do to get better journalism, I say everything even hinting of opinion rather than fact MUST be served with a disclaimer of the nature of the report. In other words, closer vetting be the editors in chief. No editing quotes or videos to frame a statement in a false light.
Any failure to label a report for what it is would be liable for lawsuit by anyone who can show evidence that the report is less than factual! That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

Until recently our Federal Government has been made up of three equal branches, Executive, Legislative and Judicial. We no longer have three EQUAL branches. Thus far the President has not been allowed to defend himself in this charade going on in the house of representatives. He can call NO witnesses. He CAN NOT have anyone to represent him. The Republicans on the committees can not even call witnesses. If the branches were equal the President would be allowed witnesses and representation. Instead the dimwitocrats make the rules to favor their narrative.
Also if the branches were equal, the Executive would be allowed to impeach members of the house or senate, but there is nothing he can do about misconduct in the legislature. Guess what, they police themselves. What a deal!

So, the IG cannot find any bias, when, at the drop of a hat, this Democratic Congress can press for impeachment against an elected President on a whim, when not even the thinest of suspiscions or non-utterences can be factually predicated. Very interesting . The double standard of their hypocracy is flagrently and odiferously obvious. Is there any honor amoung these pedantic bafoons, these clowns? Maybe these monkeys should try remembering that the same electorate who voted our President in, can also vote them out. Idiocy and untethered partasinship worn as a mask is an unbecoming credential for holding office.

    Mike,
I’d like to know your thoughts about presidential vetting i.e. how do we know who we are getting as a presidential candidates? While the some questions around Mr Trump may have come from unjustified bias, I think some just came from uncertainly about this man from ‘outside’ politics. I think it began strongly with President Obama. The ‘birtherism’ issue left many in the Obama opposition feeling that he had NOT been vetted even to prove his basic qualification of citizenship. As you know, President Trump was a strong proponent of this question as were many in conservative media. I think this lead to the kind of environment in which many questioned the actions and motives of Mr. Trump with respect to Russia and Mr. Putin. Again, how do we know who to trust on our own side and, even more difficult, who to trust from the opposition side? Is it time to ensure that some kind of vetting is done beforehand rather than having endless questions and maybe trials after the fact?

Democrats lust for power is most certainly satanic but the Enemedia is more dangerous than our worst enemy. They cannot be reformed because they are owned by corrupt Wall Street oligarchs. We don’t have a free market system to put a stop to corrupt Enemedia. When Trump wins in a landslide and GOP takes over house and senate, first law is to breakup national media from corrupt Wall Street oligarchs.

I am baffled by the MSM stating that Barr and all of the republican's were the ones gas-lighting! I am also disheartened that this seems to never be addressed criminally for these anti Trump yahoo's. Do you think that the media will ever come clean so that the other half of the Americans get the truth and that these swamp rats will ever have to pay for their criminal behavior?

You answered my question about cnn and msm coverage about whether or not they showed the hearings intact. Cut away to "breaking" news--what, that there might be a major snowstorm yet this year--so let's see what preparations to make?

In my email this morning, there was an article where it seems democrats are outraged--OUTRAGED, I tell you-- that Ben Sasse (Republican,) after listening to the report or the testimony, you know, after FACTS were presented, has (gasp!) turned from his previous support of the FBI, DOJ. From the article, it would seem that Sasse has not always agreed with the President on his policies (doesn't say he NEVER agreed, and doesn't say what issues he had) and that seemed to let the democrats feel like he was really one of them. HOW DARE HE actually show his conservative stripes--which is probably what got him elected in the first place!! I don't know, maybe they are upset that he actually listened to facts, thought for himself on the matter instead of listening solely to msm take. Really, the tweets that were in the article would make it seem like the democrats EXPECT anyone who has ever disagreed with the President to turn exclusively to the democrat party. I say, good for him, and he deserves credit for admitting he can change his mind AFTER HEARING THE FACTS.
