Now that the House testimony of vacant-eyed former special counsel Robert Mueller has thoroughly embarrassed the Democrats and cast a huge shadow of doubt over the entire investigation, the Democrats have given up trying to impeach President Trump and have finally decided to turn their attention to serious issues such as illegal immigration and continued economic expansion. “As members of Congress, we can now get back to doing our job,” Jerrold Nadler said.
Ha, you knew I was kidding after the first comma. If Democrats can’t use the special counsel report to impeach Trump –- and they really can’t, now that we know it was written not by Mueller at all but by hyper-partisan pit bulls, notably Andrew Weissmann –- they are going to keep looking for something else. They are like the hungry shark that can never stop swimming and scanning the depths for prey. More subpoenas, more fishy investigations.
And now, just before leaving for their August recess, they’ve already announced their newest fishing expedition.
Thursday, in a 23-16 vote along party lines (naturally), the House Oversight and Reform (“Reform”) Committee has authorized Chairman Elijah Cummings of Maryland to subpoena White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney for all White House records relating to their investigation of “noncareer White House officials’” use of personal email and text applications for official business.
Of course, we know who they mostly mean by “noncareer White House officials”: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the President’s daughter and son-in-law.
Now, let me get this straight. The Democrats ran a sham “investigation” of Hillary Clinton and even supported her for President of the United States after finding out that she had flagrantly broken the law –- and she absolutely did, no matter what James Comey said –- by using a personal email SERVER, SET UP IN HER OWN HOUSE and serviced by HER OWN TECH GUY, for ALL her official State Department AND personal communications, including the highly classified stuff, at a time when we were supposedly very concerned about hacks from international enemies; had 30,000 subpoenaed emails destroyed and rendered unretrievable with specialized BleachBit software; had aides physically destroy communications devices with hammers; and told repeated monstrous whoppers about it. And now they want to comb through every email ever sent by anyone in the White House to see if they can find one single example of a personal email account being used for something that can be deemed “official.”
“There are serious questions about this White House’s use of personal email and text accounts,” Cummings intoned at the Thursday morning meeting. “We must issue these subpoenas to get our answers.”
The White House has already been deluged with congressional subpoenas for documents. They’ve refused to comply, saying that the Democrats have overstepped their authority and infringed on executive branch privileges. So I’m sure the White House is ready with an answer for them on this especially egregious invasion, and it might include words that I won’t print here.
