I don’t go into detail about every state race, but Thursday’s GOP primary for Tennessee Governor is worth your attention.  The winner was underdog Bill Lee, a conservative businessman running against three well-funded and better-known political veterans, Rep. Diane Black, House Speaker Beth Harwell and former state economic development chief, Randy Boyd (full disclosure: I endorsed Boyd.)  It was a contentious race with up to $40 million spent on the Republican side, too much of it on attack ads. As recently as last month, Lee was down by double digits in the polls, but he surged at the end, possibly because he was out touting his Christian values while the other candidates were attacking each other.

Let’s hope this campaign convinces other Republicans to keep their races civil and save the punaciousness for their real opponents in November.  I also hope it convinces people to stop putting so much emphasis on polls, but it won’t.

In Tennessee, all the Republican candidates strongly aligned themselves with President Trump, but he didn’t endorse any particular one (Mike Pence did endorse Rep. Black).  However, Lee is probably the most like Trump, and Tennessee voters must like that, because Trump carried Tennessee in 2016 by 26 points.

Lee will square off against former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean in November, and as expected, the GOP candidate for Senate will be Rep. Marsha Blackburn, facing Democrat and former Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Hi Governor Huckabee, Thank you for this article. I live in Knoxville, TN and met Bill Lee at church this past Sunday. I was impressed with him and voted for him. I shook his hand Sunday and said, "I believe you will get it"! It was difficult because I really wanted to vote for Randy Boyd, ( a local guy), because you endorsed him. We have to believe Bill was supposed to win. I enjoy your program on the weekends. I am sure you will get to meet Bill soon because he lives in the Nashville area. I am a huge fan or yours and Sarah's. Will keep Sarah in my prayers. She is the best Press Sect. we have ever had! You are doing a great job to keep us up to date on the issues. Pray for Marsha Blackburn to replace Bob Corker! Love and prayers to you and your family! I would love to meet you all some day. Sincerely, Leslie

    Mr. Huckabee,
I just wanted to say I voted for you in the primaries. I like the way you think, but I also praise God for using you and blessing your faithfulness. Here in Indiana we are hoping to see Mr. Donnelly out. Mike what really bothers me is the fact that even if our family has voted Republican for the most part, we still have Democrat people who we would stand alongside if they needed a hand. The line being drawn on social media, media, and more so in cities, I hope does not reflect the nation as a whole. Oh we need Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace. God bless sir and I hope this finds you well.
