Today's Edition: 6 minute read

--------------------------

This is a must-read article if you ever find yourself faced with someone pressing the liberal cliché that (as former President Barack Obama put it in a recent statement) “no other nation on Earth comes close to experiencing the frequency of mass shootings that we see in the United States. No other developed nation tolerates the levels of gun violence that we do.”

According to the Crime Prevention Research Institute, he’s incorrect on both counts (or as liberals would say if he were Trump, “He’s LYYYYING!!!!”)

Immigration update

By Mike Huckabee

The Trump Administration plans to impose a new immigration rule starting October 15th that would allow applicants to be turned away if they are deemed likely never to become permanent US residents who aren’t drawing so many welfare benefits that they would be classified as “public charges.”

Ken Cuccinelli, acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, announced the rule Tuesday with a suggested update to the poem by the Statute of Liberty: “Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge.” Cuccinelli said it “doesn’t seem like too much to ask, as we open our doors currently to more than a million new people a year, that they not become a burden on an already, frankly, overburdened and bankrupt welfare system.”

I can understand the logic, although I would hope exceptions would be made for elderly and disabled refugees who are fleeing genuine danger in other nations (the kind for which the concept of “asylum” was intended.)  I wouldn’t bet the farm, though, on meeting that October 15th deadline.  Not while America has huddled masses of ACLU lawyers and liberal federal judges who think they run the immigration system.

The Deficit

By Mike Huckabee

Ten months into fiscal 2019, the federal government so far is running a budget deficit of $867 billion. Naturally, this is giving Democrats and their PR agency, the national news media, an opportunity to blame the Trump/GOP tax cuts for “exploding the deficit” and to mock the claim that tax cuts can pay for themselves.

But as is often the case, appearances, like politicians, can be deceiving.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/contrary-media-narrative-trumps-tax-cuts-didnt-blow-hole-deficit/

Yes, that deficit is way too big and needs to be brought down, but it’s not because of the tax cut. In fact, it’s lower than the CBO predicted before the tax cuts took effect. The lower rates created an economic and job creation bonanza that’s increased federal revenues. Thanks to record corporate profits and millions of Americans moving from taking government benefits (5 million are off food stamps since Trump’s election) and landing jobs, the past two years have seen record or near-record levels of personal income tax revenues to Washington. Tax revenues overall (personal and corporate) are up 3% in 2019, so far. Yet, Washington still spent $867 billion more than it took in.

How is this possible? The same way it’s possible for you to get a raise and still rack up a higher credit card bill: too much spending. So far in 2019, tax revenues are up 3%, while spending is up 8%. It really doesn’t matter how much you take in if you always spend more than that. And before anyone starts pointing fingers, let me assure you, they are bipartisan spendaholics.

So don’t listen to people who try to blame the deficit on you being greedy for wanting to keep a little bit more of your hard-earned money that the government could spend more wisely. We have a $22 trillion debt as proof that the government spends money about as wisely as a college student in a pot dispensary. But I have little hope that anyone in Washington will try to address that problem (indeed, there are people proposing to spend tens of trillions more, and to heck with the deficit). After all, we’ve known for years what overspending can do, yet it just keeps right on. As a wise man once wrote:

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result in misery."

That was written by Charles Dickens in “David Copperfield,” published in 1854. After 165 years, that advice is as true as ever. Let's hope it doesn't take Washington another 165 years before they start heeding it.

#1 on Amazon

By Mike Huckabee

Leftwing media and social media and the MPAA went to great lengths to keep Americans from knowing about “Unplanned,” the true story of Planned Parenthood clinic manager Abby Johnson’s awakening to the horrors of abortion.  Despite that, it opened in theaters and became a hit.  This week, it came to streaming and DVD, and on its first day, it hit #1 on Amazon, surpassing the mega-hit, “Avengers: End Game.”

The producers say the MPAA’s slapping an unwarranted “R” rating on the film turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of keeping people away, it brought the movie a lot of publicity it would otherwise never have received.  Well, the Lord works in mysterious ways.  That “R” rating for disturbing violence was also a tacit admission by Hollywood that abortion is an act of disturbing violence.

If you weren’t able to get to the theaters to see “Unplanned,” here’s your chance to see it at home, or as Abby Johnson suggests, buy a copy and donate it to your local library.  She also has a suggestion for abortion supporters who have attacked the film without seeing it: watch it at home and see exactly what it is you’re supporting.  That alone might open a lot of people’s eyes.

I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:

I hope you’ll join me in praying today for the people of Hong Kong that we don’t see a repeat of the Tiananmen Square crushed uprising. Chinese troops are reportedly massing on the border and media outlets are warning that the Hong Kong protesters are “asking for self-destruction” (translation: “destruction by China.”)

Many of us remember the feelings of trepidation we felt when sovereignty over Hong Kong passed from the UK to China in 1997. Beijing promised a hands-off approach (as if any communist government would tolerate that much freedom for long.) We feared a bloody crackdown would eventually come. Let’s pray that it’s averted.

Must-See Video:  Today’s liberal media narrative-crusher is this compilation of clips of black Americans refuting the kneejerk accusation that President Trump is a racist.  One even suggests that he should be added to Mount Rushmore.  Listen carefully, and you can hear heads exploding all the way from MSNBC studios in New York.

    The Deficit
Anyone can download the Monthly Treasury Statement explaining government funding and spending. It's interesting to read how it belies Democrat's and national media's common refrain that the TCJA blew a $2T hole in the budget.
The biggest 2 programs driving the deficit and debt are Medicare and Social Security. Both once paid for themselves plus other (imho - wasteful) federal spending. No more. Both need significant reform. Congress must act to increase the entitlement age limit. Full benefits for both programs should start at 70. Early Social Security benefits should start at 65.
Simply pass reform legislation that extends the entitlement age to 70 for all those born this century. Extend the entitlement age of both programs to 68 for all born since 1980.
The above won't offer much help now but 20 and 30 years from now.
    Write your congressional members!

Trump is a white supremacist racist???
Last week in your writings you said, "I don't understand..." to which I commented. I read an excellent article today by Linda Goudsmit that I am linking in this comment. She really cuts the wool away from the sheep and speaks plainly as to what is the true "goings on" in our nation and that issue which you professed a lack of understanding.

I certainly hope you find this helpful.

As Ken Cuccinelli said last night on Fox, refugees and assylum seekers would not be affected by the new immigration rules, so "elderly and disabled refugees" would not have to worry about this.
