Philippians 4:13

Elon Musk’s invaluable service

Whether Elon Musk ultimately buys Twitter or not, he’s done the world an invaluable service by forcing leftists to admit (A.) that Twitter (and other social media outlets) are incredibly biased and censorious, and (B.) that there is nothing that terrifies them more than the thought of the people having freedom of speech.

I’ve always operated on the assumption that if you are so afraid of defending your ideas that you feel you have to silence anyone who would challenge them, then you must not be able to back them up intellectually. I’m confident enough in my beliefs that I happily invite liberals to come on my shows for a friendly debate, although I notice that hardly any of them take me up on it.

These days, leftists seem to believe, despite massive evidence to the contrary, that their opinions are objective truth. If that were true, they wouldn’t be so terrified of letting the other side talk, but instead, they’re desperate to maintain a highly censored public square with themselves, naturally, in charge of determining whose ideas are worthy of voicing.

When you have so-called “thought leaders” like Robert Reich and Max Boot actually arguing that Musk’s free speech agenda is the dream of every dictator on earth (Really? Name one) or that “For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less,” you know are engaged in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

Instapundit had a good wrap-up on what an important day last Thursday was, a turning point in the left revealing its true attitude about freedom of speech.

https://instapundit.com/515630/

As Glenn Greenwald put it, “It was the day they were forced to explicitly state what has long been clear: they not only favor censorship but desperately crave and depend on it.”

And speaking of victories for free speech: Congratulations to philosophy professor Nicholas Meriwether, who was punished by Shawnee State University for refusing to call a male student by his “preferred” female pronouns because it violated his religious beliefs. Meriwether said he treats all students with dignity and respect, and he offered to call the student by name, but that wasn’t good enough. He sued, with his attorney saying that nobody should be forced to contradict their core beliefs just to keep their job.

Last month, the 6th US Court of Appeals found in his favor, ruling that the university violated his First Amendment rights. As part of a settlement, the university agreed to rescind the written warning issued to him, and pay his attorney’s fees and $400,000 in damages.

Congratulations to Prof. Meriwether and a big salute for fighting to defend both First Amendment free speech rights and correct grammar.

Abbott wins

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has ended the inspections of trucks entering from Mexico that were causing backups and delays. But before the left starts celebrating the success of their vilification of Abbott, it should be noted that he ended them after bordering Mexican states signed tougher inspection agreements, which was the whole point of imposing them. So he won.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2022/04/16/abbott-rescinds-strict-truck-inspection-order-n1590273

It’s also worth pointing out that seeing a problem, taking action to fix it, persuading others to get on board, and quickly changing policies when unexpected problems arise are all things that actual leaders do. Maybe the Biden White House should look into that.

PS - The busloads of illegal immigrants Abbott is sending from Texas are still arriving in Washington, DC. Let's see how they deal with the problem they created when it's in their own backyard.

LOL: Schiff wants to be Speaker of the House

Rep. Adam Schiff, who should have been censured and drummed out of Congress long ago for his repeated slanderous claims and for falsifying evidence, is not only still there, he thinks he should become Speaker.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/robert-spencer/2022/04/16/youll-never-guess-who-wants-to-be-speaker-of-the-house-now-n1590407

He has no business being Speaker of the House (in fact, he really should stop speaking entirely), but if there were an official position called Liar of the House, he’d be overqualified for that. And that’s saying a lot, considering the competition.

Media’s Latest Excuse

The media’s latest excuse for President Biden isn’t doing him any favors: it’s not his fault that he’s ineffectual. They’re saying, sure, inflation’s out of control and illegals are swarming across the border, but “there’s just not much President Biden can do about it.”

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2022/04/17/media-has-a-new-talking-point-to-defend-joe-biden-but-it-makes-him-sound-even-worse-n551719

Just spitballing here, but he could reverse the policies that caused it. CNN’s John Harwood claims that Biden is just “a victim of circumstance.” The circumstance is that he had the bad luck to be President when Joe Biden was in the White House.

I don’t think the American people are going to buy this, but I would suggest that if Biden tries it, he should say it like this: “I’m a victim of coicumstance!” Americans like Curly Howard. Maybe that would help his approval rating.

Much-Needed Good News

Saturday at Dodger Stadium, there was a celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, the 75th anniversary of Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball. And as she does every year, his widow Rachel Robinson attended. She not only helps keep Jackie’s legacy alive, she founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation that’s helped over 1,000 minority students and the Jackie Robinson Development Corp. that creates low-income housing.

And she’s still going strong at just a few months shy of her 100th birthday.

Interesting read

The New Neo blog ponders the question of what the people who promoted Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as VP thought was going to happen once they got into office? They seem stunned at how quickly everything has gone south, and how low Biden's approval ratings are (down to 33% in the latest survey.) But seriously: what did they think was going to happen?

https://www.thenewneo.com/2022/04/16/what-did-the-people-who-promoted-biden-as-the-democratic-presidential-nominee-think-was-going-to-happen-if-he-was-elected/

And a great PS from Sarah Hoyt at Instapundit:

https://instapundit.com/515795/

“…They thought their ideas would work. From Modern Economic Theory, where money can just be printed and not increase inflation, to unicorn fart land where the only reason we didn’t all drive EVs is that gas was so cheap. (And gas is only used for jaunts in the countryside, toot tooting your horn and scaring the wildlife. Not to transport food, etc.) Once we experienced the wonderfulness of renewables, we’d be so happy and grateful.

In other words, they’re morons. They didn’t think so much as emote about how wonderful everything would be with them in charge.”

I have been a supporter of Israel for many years until I spent a week there last week. At many hotels and gift shops they sell communist China pins to ware on a person's clothing. That is bad enough. In one hotel there was displayed a communist flag along with flags of the USA and Israel. I found out that Israel wanted to have China build a harbor a few years ago. What this is telling me is they will sell themselves down the river and also gladly accept US aid money while also accepting China' aid. They are playing the USA for fools. I do have the photos on my camera as proof. Please check this story out from your many sources. Thank you, H. Latt, USA., ret.

As the democratic congress members allowed the massive invasion of our country thru the southern border some are now are in favor of sending some illegals back into Mexico only after the democrats already allowed a couple of million invaders to come in and be relocated. The democrats worry about wearing useless masks while Ukrainian civilians are crushed under bombed homes and buildings and gunned down in cold blood the Ukrainian is being used as target practices by Russian soulless criminals similar to to what gangs in democratic run cities are doing every single day Satin loves democrats and the Russian military

Why doesn’t biden talk about the gasoline crisis biden just doesn’t care the urban citizens are the people that support this WH and a lot of this disabled congress. Most of them will not travel far to work if they work at all, to fill the car may need it filled maybe twice a month where the people that live in rural areas or the suburbs will travel further and need more gasoline that population is less than its urban population a lot of the urban population are supplemented by government subsidies, well played by the democrats plus the democrats understand what they have taught in the urban school systems the product doesn’t read well the urban citizen just doesn’t get it so the democrats are not afraid the mail in president the mail In governor the mail in Mayor and the mail in congress members may be here for a long time so GOP keep your head in the sand and let America sink
