A new "scandal"

Stop the presses!  Major new Trump scandal on the horizon!  The New York Times somehow (they claim legally) obtained some of Trump’s business tax forms from 1985 to 1994, showing that his real estate empire claimed more than $1 billion in losses during that time and didn’t pay taxes in most of those years.

Trump branded the story “a highly inaccurate Fake News hit job.” That was a turbulent era for real estate, and Trump said it was a common practice, and was mostly from taking depreciation.  He tweeted, “You always wanted to show losses for tax purposes," and "almost all real estate developers" used this as a "tax shelter."

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-blasts-hit-job-nytimes-story

The Times may actually have helped bolster Trump’s case for not giving his tax forms to Congress. I seriously doubt most Americans would expect anyone not to use the tax laws to pay as little as possible, especially when his business is going through a rough patch.  Meanwhile, if the New York Times can’t even find tax attorneys who can make clear to readers that people take the biggest tax deductions legally allowable, how can we possibly expect the current crop of IQ point-challenged Democratic Congress members (you know, the same people who wrote the tax laws that they're railing about Trump taking advantage of) to make heads or tails out of Trump’s tax forms that are probably thicker than “War and Peace”?

Also just in: Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee who’s demanding six years’ worth of Trump’s tax forms, hasn’t released his own tax forms.

Bringing it

I try hard to look for the good in people, but some people make it awfully hard to find.  Like the candidate for Jerk of the Year who was spotlighted here yesterday: Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims, the radical leftist, pro-abortion Democrat who posted video of himself bullying, harassing and trying to dox an elderly woman who was praying quietly outside a Planned Parenthood clinic. It was so bad, even pro-choice commenters condemned him.

Well, believe it or not, I may have actually found something good that’s come out of Sims’ proudly rotten behavior.  He live-streamed himself pulling the same stunt on three teenage girls who were protesting politely and legally outside a Planned Parenthood clinic, and even demonstrated his own racism by saying, “Look, a bunch of white people, standing out front a Planned Parenthood and shaming people.”  He ignored one of the girls (and reality) who replied, “I’m pretty far from white.”

So what good could possibly have come from this?  Sims’ words, actions and attitude were all so offensive and obnoxious that he’s inspired a major backlash from the pro-choice community. He sneeringly challenged pro-life activists to “bring it,” and they’re bringing it, big-time.  What was once planned as a small, quiet protest at the clinic at 11 a.m. Friday will now include a number of pro-life organizations and major leaders of the movement such as Lila Rose and Abby Johnson of “Unplanned” fame.

https://www.westernjournal.com/democratic-lawmaker-films-harassing-pro-life-teen-girls-accidentally-triggers-pro-life-event/

Matt Walsh, who helped organize it, said they invite Sims to attend and bring his camera to this one.  He added, “The lesson to be learned here is that you will not intimidate pro-lifers. We will not go away and be silent. If you harass or bully one of us, more will come…The rally at the Planned Parenthood in Philly isn’t just about the one jerk harassing pro-lifers at that location. It’s about taking a stand against anyone who tries to intimidate those who exercise their First Amendment rights…And it’s about standing for life, most importantly.”

All very important points to make.  And if the size of that rally and the words spoken there change any hearts or minds – if they convince just one clinic patient to reconsider and reject abortion – that will literally be a life-saving result.  And who knows what that child may someday grow up and contribute to humanity?  All because one punk politician in Pennsylvania made the world’s biggest jerk out of himself.

The Lord truly works in mysterious ways.

How the Left is killing jobs

This isn’t breaking news, but it’s a lesson that always bears repeating because the left adamantly refuses to learn and just keeps making the same dumb mistake over and over.

Someone sent me a link to one of those time-killer videos that pop up on YouTube, this one listing various reasons why the Red Robin restaurant chain is allegedly struggling. They wanted to call my attention to one reason in particular:

https://youtu.be/sm5F7nEgPYs

Last January, 18 states imposed hikes in the minimum wage, all loudly championed by Democrats who claimed to “care” about lower wage workers and to want to “help” them.  They ignored warnings that you can’t price labor above what the market will bear without negative consequences.  With all the certainty born of backgrounds in running their mouths but not running businesses, they insisted that employers should just pay it because “it’s the right thing to do.”  So they used the force of government to make “doing the right thing” (as defined by them) mandatory.

I’ve written about how leftists have expressed anger and confusion over the “unexpected” effects of the artificially-inflated minimum wage laws they voted for.  For instance, a book store and long-time liberal hangout in San Francisco shut its doors because it could no longer show a profit, and many trendy bistros in places like Seattle started disappearing. Even the bar where Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got her experience for Congress closed down.

Well, this video notes that Red Robin (which, like most restaurants, operates on a narrow profit margin) had to do something to offset the added cost, so they eliminated bus boy positions at all 570 locations.  I’m not sure how many lost jobs that adds up to, but it must be in the thousands.  The video notes that servers had to take over clearing tables, which not only added to their workloads, but slowed down service, which annoyed customers, which harmed patronage.

So let’s tally up all the ways that this one cherished “progressive” policy “helped” people:

1.  It put a heavier work burden on waiters and waitresses.

2.  It inconvenienced and angered customers.

3.  It drove away customers, which hurt stockholders.

4.  It cost thousands of minimum wage workers their jobs.

You’re welcome, America!

Nobody wants people to have to live on a minimum wage.  I, and all other Republicans I know, want everyone who works hard to make the maximum wage they possibly can.  That’s why we need to do what President Trump is doing: take the government’s boot off of the private sectors’ neck so it can grow, succeed, show a profit, hire more people, and create more jobs than there are workers, so wages rise naturally.

That’s exactly what’s happening now.  In April, there were 5.8 million Americans on unemployment and 7.1 million job openings.  Businesses that need more workers now have to compete for them with other businesses, so they have to pay more.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/trumps-jobs-prob-exact-opposite-obamas-not-enough-workers-explosive-growth/

The Democratic Presidential candidates’ response to this economy has been to talk it down and complain that it could be better (they’re right: give the House back to the Republicans and just stand back!)  But what’s their plan?  Imposing a national $15-an-hour minimum wage. Ask a former Red Robin bus boy how well that worked out.  Or a current waiter.

Here’s some recommended reading for all 3,537 Democratic Presidential contenders.  It’s a primer on why their most cherished economic proposal only makes things worse for the people they claim it helps – and everyone else.  You’d think they would’ve learned this in Econ 101 class, but apparently, you can now get a minor in Economics without ever taking Econ 101.

Kudos

Hooray for Meghan McCain for refusing to accept “Late Night” host and relentless Trump critic Seth Meyers’ attempts to promote the “I’m the victim here” narrative of Rep. Ilham Omar in response to criticism of her anti-Semitic comments. I have to take issue, however, with the home page headline for this story:  “Late night TV turns ugly as Meghan McCain slams Meyers for defending alleged anti-Semite Omar.”

I’d say that for the first time since Election night 2016, late night TV turned worth watching.

Kudos as well to Rep. Dan Crenshaw for agreeing to walk into the liberal lioness’ den on “The View,” armed against Joy Behar with nothing but accurate quotes from President Trump.

Thank you Governor Huckabee for keeping us informed of the evil that is in our government. I do think we should be able to view their tax returns, line them up and give alcohol and drug test to each one of them. The democrats that are spewing their vile hate surely must be taking something. Getting up each and every day is so depressing to hear them turn on President Trump with their lies. Someone should find out who is behind them and who is still trying to destroy our country. I only wish I could start my day with a news flash and Obama, Hillary, Rosenstein, Soros and everyone involved with them were behind bars. What a "Wonderful Day that would be.

Sims is nothing but an idiotic stupid jerk! How he attacked the people protesting at Planned Parenthood. The things he said were so disgusting how is he a rep in Pa. Meghan super for her to go on the attack of a night host I never watch. I hope that many Jewish people see what is now happening in the Democratic party and those who want to support the racist comments of Omar. She has not had to experience half of what many Jews have for thousands of years. Read many of the books on the history of Hitler and the Jews and what happened to them per the hate of one man. Israel they are at home again. They have fought for years for this . So no matter what Omar has to say as a Muslim in a religion that is not accepting of other religions time the Democrats speak out and night time host on TV who are trying to be so PC while the Jews are attacked.

If they are going to demand tax or any other records of President Trump, which has never been something required by law, then each and every congressman should also have to produce theirs. (And, gee, one would wonder what discoveries could be made in all the records obama had sealed?) I'm betting they would not have demanded ANYTHING from hilary and the clinton foundations and other enterprises they were involved in, had she (shudder) been elected. And, who is in charge of putting these people in their places and get on with actual congressional responsibilities? Like the mueller report--it seems that special counsel reports have not been made public--but, now, all of a sudden, they are trying to get Wm Barr no matter which "choice" he makes. I do hope he holds his ground, and that he can withstand all the pressure and garbage thrown at him. Just because he is going to follow the law (as is his job, and as they should also) and they can't put him in their pockets.

Earlier today, I was reading about the epic failure of $15/hr minimum wage in CA....pretty much, jobs lost, hours cut, businesses (mostly food related) closing, pretty much as you noted. What good is $15/hr if you now only work 20 hrs a week instead of 36-40?

I don't get it--where is all the outrage for violent "protests" against say, free speech, or a person in the Trump administration? But, gee--some people QUIETLY standing in front of pp or other abortion clinic, not accosting anyone--and HORRORS!!! The world will come to an end. Wonder how long it would take for him and his ilk to start crying and raising a ruckus if anyone doxxed them or their family members? Hmmm...wonder if anyone thinks to go to his home like people did to Tucker Carlson?

I don't know if I'm up to it, but it would almost be worth tuning in to the view just to see Rep. Crenshaw take them on. I guess joy and whoopi think they actually have the intelligence to--I don't know what they want to prove--take him on? I'm surprised the invite came from them. Well, actually, I think I'll wait for the recap on fb or a newsletter as I don't think I could stomach a whole show.

I love how the idiots in power, with absolutely NO business experience (such as Ovommit) feel that THEY are smarter than the business owners that helped build the greatest Free Enterprise System the World has ever seen. It is just like the DC idiots who think that THEY are smarter and know the law better than the Justices of the Supreme Court.

I am concerned about the social media , and the lack of international quality standards placed on computer applications. Why after about 100 years of maturity of software applications, there are no public or commercial product safety standards!

I am a retired electrical engineer, with master degrees in electrical engineering and operations research, and have developed many math models, and have help we write international software standards for the remote control of devices (with computers).
International standards for commercial electrical and mechanical products have been adapted for centuries. What is taking so long to issue software standards for computer communications and computer applications?
We could issue standards , that provide independent checking, independent redundancy, voting of independent solutions, error checking with three or more independent solutions, and verification of users and providers.

When are we going to see some political action to adoption international safety standards on computer applications and messaging?

When I was a senior in high school, 1980, I had a teacher say the most profound thing that I have never forgotten. Mr Ball said, " The minimum wage is a monkey on the back of the American public, we'll be carrying it around forever." I'm now 57 and it is as true now as it was then. Only back then I think it was $3.10 an hour.

Been watching c-span, carrying the House judiciary committee workings on the Barr statements--this is unbelievable! I watch BOTH dems and republicans act like children having their candy stolen from them--even a 5 year old would not shoot the barbs these worthless wastes of skin are shooting. The chairman(please notice the LOWER CASE) , is a stupid individual, he cannot adhere to Parliamentary procedure rules, and restricts debate--there appears to be NO oversight to this restrictive behavior. you want obstruction--this is it.--
as soon as I say stupid, this post will not be published---this is my opinion - I have the right-you don't publish this, you are no better than the jerks you decry

To the Democratic Party: ENOUGH already about the President's tax returns! His past financial data has NOTHING to do with his ability/qualifications to be President.

I'd be more interested in seeing the tax records of pretty much every Congressperson. It would be enlightening to see how so many became billionaires on a salary of less than $200k/year.

Seems to me that the democrats are really scrambling to find something, anything to take the spotlight off of their actions in the Obama administration. I'm kind of enjoying watching them squirm. Forgive me Lord.

I enjoyed your summary today--well done. I have told my High School students that "God sometimes works in mysterious ways" . My students would always say; show us examples. I would say let's think about things you have already experienced in life. Did you ever ask for something and didn't get it. But something you did ask for came out of a bad experience and you learned something good. I would always give an example from my own life. God has the ability to help us learn and grow through bad events in our lives. He is love.
