June 12, 2018

As predicted, today turned out to be a day that will go down in history.  It’s the worst day ever for Robert DeNiro.  And Stephen Colbert.  And Joy Behar.

But even more importantly, it is a “yuuuuuuge” turning point for relations between North Korea and the US (and the world.)  We saw the culmination of a stunning series of events that started with nuclear threats and twitter insults between North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un and President Trump, events that brought warnings of a nuclear apocalypse...but which somehow led to a friendly meeting between the two, followed by a surprise signing of a document crafted in secret but changed at the last minute to add more concessions from Kim, such as agreeing to destroy a missile engine testing site.  Trump had previously said that it might take several meetings before they reached the stage of signing anything.  I guess unlike previous Presidents, he thinks it’s not a good negotiating strategy to let the other side know what you plan to do before you do it.

The know-it-alls who mercilessly mocked Trump’s tweets about “Rocket Man” and “my nuclear button is bigger than yours” learned, via a post-summit interview with Sean Hannity, that the strong rhetoric was an important part of Trump’s strategy to get Kim to the table and it worked.  Trump even admitted that he felt foolish and a little embarrassed about tweeting it at the time.  Don’t worry, Mr. President: there are other people who should definitely feel more foolish and embarrassed than you.

Trump made it clear that the document is not a treaty or agreement, just an early-stage declaration of intentions.  He’s taking the Reagan approach of “trust, but verify” (in one amusing moment during his post-signing press conference, he said if Kim fails to live up to his promises, he’ll come back in six months and admit he was wrong – well, actually, he’ll probably make an excuse and not admit he was wrong.  That may be the most honest thing anyone in politics has said in years.)

The document calls for North Korea to completely dismantle its nuclear program, which Trump said will take a long time due to scientific constraints, but once it's started, can't be reversed. The US will halt its joint war games with South Korea that Kim saw as a provocation (Trump noted that will save the US a lot of money anyway) and offer some security guarantees, but the nuclear disarmament must come first and be verified before any concessions, such as lifting sanctions, are made.  So there’s still a long way to go, but at least this is a hopeful start that we never could have imagined just one year ago.

Trump also got Kim to agree to return the remains of MIAs and POWs from the Korean War to their families in the US, many of whom had urged Trump to help finally bring them some closure after many years.  When asked why he thought Kim had seemingly changed his attitude and this wasn’t yet another sucker deal, Trump credited the attention focused North Korea over the treatment and death of American Otto Warmbier, which shocked and saddened the world.  He kindly assured Warmbier’s parents that their son had not died in vain.

As to why Trump has seemingly accomplished what previous Administrations could not, one could argue that he had a tough, competent team; he understands that you negotiate from a position of strength; he didn’t delegate his authority to the U.N.; and he’s the master of the “art of the deal.”  But don’t discount the importance of bringing a businessman’s perspective to a process that’s heretofore been dominated by professional diplomats, bureaucrats and politicians.

Trump revealed that he’d had a computer-animated video created to show Kim on his iPad, illustrating the kind of booming economic development North Korea could enjoy if it turned away from war and opened its society.  He even pointed out the excellent “location, location, location” of having real estate between China and South Korea, and noted that the beaches where Kim put cannons could be the site of luxury hotels.  He said this seemed to have an impact on Kim.

In fact, after meeting with Trump, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim not only agreed to give up his nukes, but also to buy a timeshare condo in a Trump resort.

Mike: Thanks for the lucid and heart felt comments. We appreciate the work you do to speak the truth in love, and your love for our country. Having served in Korea '65-66, and heard stories of the insanity of the North and their efforts to undermine the truce, attack the South and generally be the bad boys of the world, this is a breath of fresh air. We're praying that God will continue to bless and protect the process and allow Kim to realize that he can change the course of history for himself and his country.
As an old army guy, I am not fond of the "be all you can be" motto. I'm much more in favor of the Marines "Semper Fi", (Semper Fidelis = Always Faithful). So, let's remind each other what we can and should be.
    God Bless, Dave Tucker

The report that came out today June14, 2018, just makes me sick. How can so many do so many criminal acts and get away with it. Sounds like Hillary is off scott free. And Comey--looks like nothing is going to happen to him. If you or I did any of this we would have been in the slammer a couple years ago. I don't think this is going to set well with "We the People". The Clintons just march on as though they have done nothing wrong. I am FED UP!

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
I most times enjoy your articles…your wit is better than it used to be when you were our Governor many moons ago, as my native ancestry say, and you say you read (try to), every reply email sent. I hope this is one that you read?
A long time ago the “black death” was rampant and until the rats and fleas of the infected rats were discovered, exposed and eradicated the “black death” continued doing its infecting and killing business.
The “infected rat pack” of the Clintons, Comely, Lynch, and so many more major infected fat rats all have their “Blue Death” fleas spreading the destruction, and just like the Black Death until the blue infected rats and fleas are discovered, exposed and eradicated, the infected rats will just keep infecting more fleas, as the fleas feed off the polluted fat blood money that the infected rats have, and are spreading their crap all over the place.
The first signs of the disease is high agitation progressing to delusions and then eventual the suffer expires.
Please do Not use my name or identification as I just like you have to live in this corrupt polluted system, without sufficient antibiotics to fight off all the “three lettered” blood sucking parasites.

Passing by the ABC "news" channel this morning (June 13), I saw the caption "Fallout from the Kim/Trump Summit", with George Stephanopoulos pontificating on the lack of information coming out of this meeting. Fallout? Was nothing good accomplished by meeting with the North Korean leader? Not according the liberal news media. Potential "fallout" from North Korean missiles was deterred, and the left called that bad. They were not informed of all the details of the meeting, and this miffed them.

I had to wait until Hannity’s show to find out what the four accords agreed to were. None of the networks had revealed the. Then the interview with the President allowed me to judge his sincerity.
Other networks emphasized what hadn’t been accomplished such as verification of denuclearization rather than approving of this first step.

I SO love your articles, Mike Huckabee, and pray for you AND your amazing daughter Sarah (and it was great seeing her at the Summit) ... and never so proud of our POTUS, Donald Trump, as I watched him skillfully and HUMBLY maneuver in that Singapore Summit meeting! And I am so grateful to God for giving us President Trump with his particular gifts/talents that we need in the USA at this season. I was so skeptical when Trump first entered the Presidential race, but listened to past interviews and present campaigns/speeches and watched as I saw the people he surrounded himself with, his family, his no-guile passion for the USA and found myself liking him more and more. Now I just LOVE and admire him ... especially as he has to DAILY plow through the Opposition Media, as well as the political quicksand of the SWAMP. He is a pilgrim-in-process, just like the rest of us Truth seekers who know JESUS! I know MANY were praying for this meeting (and I pray DAILY for this country and the President and all connected!) Thank you again for all YOU do as you keep up the GOD work, keep fighting the GOD fight! Your fan, Ann

Why are so many blind to the fact that this is a major historical event, very much like what Nixon accomplished with China? It took Donald Trump to go where no president had ventured before, and do what no president had the guts or the skill to accomplish. Kudos to our President!

I found it laughable when all the naysayers came out of the woodwork and from under their rocks today after the meeting with North Korea. My question would be what has any of these people ever done before. Nothing but make things worse. We had opportunities under previous administrations and got absolutely nothing done except to allow that rogue nations to become a nuclear power. They had their chance, shut up, go away, move to San Francisco.

Both the left and right political elites, news opinion talking heads, heads-of-states and Trumpsyndromees just can't get over that President Donald J. Trump has been so successful in getting Kim to the table so quickly that this might actually lead to peace on the peninsula! They just don't want him to succeed. It is so obvious. In my opinion, it makes them look like they are sucking on red-hot-pepper-laced sour worm candy every time he succeeds at something! They just can't figure it out! God be with President Trump! How far he has come, and I'm proud to call him President of the United State of America, for the people, by the people, of the people.

I am a Republican and voted for President Trump.
Far more importantly, I am a Christian and a Baptist minister.
I too believe this is a GREAT day and we need to remember the Prayers which have called for a lasting Peace! Please encourage President Trump to remember this is a "God thing" as Henry Blackaby would say !

I found it interesting that Kim Jong Un seemed to warm to the idea of luxury hotels on his beaches. The North Koreans did try to build a luxury hotel in downtown Pyongyang, but the project (the "Pyramid") was never completed. Now the outer shell just sits there rusting.
With a little help from someone who knows how to build things, maybe things will turn around!

The way the so-called propaganda machine we know as the 'main stream' media is reporting on President Trump's summit with Kim Jung Un is absolutely appalling...the historical significance of this summit is being so down-played its pathetic. Will they EVER give President Trump his credit where credit is due?...I'd love to serve those reporters a huge slice of 'humble pie' or a 100lb chunk of Crow to gnaw on...

Just getting KJU to a negotiation meeting is a feat in itself. Acosta acted like he wanted the meeting to fail. Probably did, like Maher he would rather have America become a third world shithole country than prosper under Trump. These demolosers actully don't care about the American people, only about themselves. And by the way Maher we are not a democracy. Democracy is mob rule, we are a constitutional republic. Something you leftist morons seem to forget.

Governor a few points. The mountain that exploded ended the Nuke development for N K and probably killed many scientists. The proximity to China and Russia raised the issue of Radio active fall out, No country happy.

China and Russia not pleased about S K and Japan getting nukes.
Kim studied in Switzerland familiar with west as is his sister.
Removing 3 septuagenarian generals is due to policy differences not personal problems.

President Trump's Rhetoric helped b/c it put some fear in Kim.
So confluence of events and a change of pace in negotiations may get us there.

The unlearned, because of their stupidity, plus their HATE for Donald, think he got snookered. Gave away the store. Conned by Kim.
To me, Trump has all the ego he needs. Kim, a 34 year-old, spoiled brat, has been cornered like a rat, and capable of doing stupid things.
A rat, when cornered or cage will fight for its life.
Trump turned Kim into a Mickey Mouse. Which reminds me of a famous Mickey quotation: "The future will be a daily trudge if you keep looking back and focused on past mistakes. Learn and leave it in the past. MOVE ON!

Rev. Huckabee, Please see if you can find out what happened in the Las Vegas terrorists attack. I can't find any information in the media about the investigation & I am afraid that the victims will be forgotten & justice never served for them. I think it is so wrong that justice is no longer equal under our current system.

THAN YOU, Sir, for telling us the truth with your immense common sense and humor! Nowhere else can we get the entire story, without opinion or political slant, (FOX gives us the truth, but we have to wade through the ridiculous leftists who hate everything the Pres. does.) Many of us were surprised they signed anything, but thrilled they did, because we KNOW this President is not about to believe a word Kim says until he sees it with his own eyes. PS: Pres. Trump is absolutely right about what he said about Justin Trudeau. I'm Canadian (lived in FLA half my life) and we detest the actor who is pretending to be a PM. We have put up with his lies and law-breaking for three long years, and are eager to vote him out in 2019!

    RE: Singapore Sling

Just as expected, the fake news media, liberal talking heads, and Democarps (intentional misspelling) cannot give President Trump credit for the historic Singapore summit breakthrough to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

Democrats' cycical pessimism was unleashed before the maraschino cherry was garnished. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) (running for reelection despite investigation into his ethical lapse) couldn't wait for a toast to peace in the Sea of Japan before serving up Singapore Slings. Senator Menendez might want to find a jar of Bar-keepers Friend and bar towel to polish the brass on his retirement from the Senate this November. His breath can barely fog the mirror at this stage of his political career.

Let's celebrate the beginning of diplomacy recognizing what has already been accomplished without giving a plane load of cash, illegal access to our financial banking system, or an apology tour. By showing strength through rhetoric and sanctions, President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo transcend the promise of peace and the end of war since 1953. This was accomplished while three hostages were released and an underground nuclear test site was destroyed unilaterally by Chairman Kim as a sign of goodwill.

I look foreword to your remarks concerning President Trump and all topics concerning him and our government. There are not too many places a person can go for truth today. I do think you do so honestly ; as in cutting him no slack when he is obviously headed in the wrong direction,or in one of his twitter night time crazies, which I dislike some of the time. I fully support our President and I'm praying for him and his family daily. I think he is one of the better Presidents in my lifetime and I'm your age. Thank you for your support of President Trump and he sorely needs your full support and that includes gently guiding him if he is wrong. This summit with North Korea is a momemental feat and to get even this far to the table is a great moment for the world at large. If you speak to him tell him we in central Missouri love him and his wife, First Lady. She is so talented , intelligent and classy.
