The NEA Gets Behind CRT

The nation’s largest teachers’ union, the misleadingly named National Education Association (“Education” should more accurately be replaced with “Indoctrination”) came out against parents who are trying to get racist Critical Race Theory out of schools.

The NEA voted that it is “reasonable and appropriate” to use CRT in social studies classes (interestingly contradicting other leftists, who claim it’s too “complex” for lower grades and deny it’s being pushed in K-12 schools at all.) They also approved a plan to "publicize" CRT and dedicate a "team of staffers" to assist union members looking to "fight back against anti-CRT rhetoric" (i.e., they want to research the backgrounds of critics of CRT to try to smear and dox them.)

The resolution also calls for the NEA to "join with Black Lives Matter at School and the Zinn Education Project to call for a rally this year on Oct. 14 — George Floyd’s birthday — as a national day of action to teach lessons about structural racism and oppression." FYI: Howard Zinn was the self-described anarchist/socialist who wrote “A People’s History of the United States,” the first major anti-American “revisionist” (false and propagandistic) history book which has infected America’s schools for years.

The NEA also voted to back the “1619 Project,” the latest false anti-American account of US history. It’s so bad that even the World Socialist Web Site dismissed it as a load of careless, cherry-picked, racialist garbage that evinces “no familiarity with the massive body of work produced by generations of historians.”

And this is what the largest teachers’ union in America endorses pouring into your kids’ noggins. That’s why many people say that sending your kids to a public school these days is a form of child abuse.

On the plus side, since this is the same union that’s fighting tooth and toenail to keep from reopening schools, maybe they’ll still be refusing to indoctrinate kids even by October. By then, you will have been able to find a good school for your kids, or be home-schooling them, or have replaced your school board or pressured local leaders to replace this racist, Marxist brainwashing with actual education.

I wrote recently about how elected officials in red states need to do more to rein in schools and universities that use taxpayers’ money to hire only far-left teachers and indoctrinate students in radical ideology.

    I've been looking at your past columns and articles but couldn't find the one I read about children not being addressed as he and she's in school because then it makes them decide their gender! Was this Mike Huckabee or American Family?

    I am a former teacher, former school board member (10years) and former State Board of Education member. I am horrified that both NEA and AFT back CRT and 1619 project. These "unions" are really political lobbyists. They get more benefits for teachers-like not going back to in person work when scientific facts say children don't get sick from Covid or transmit the disease. Neither NEA or AFT care about the children. The damage done by remote learning will linger for years. More importantly, you are correct- public education is a mess. This country spends more per student than any other while the kids rank in the high 30's world-wide for competency. Charter schools, parochial schools, home-schooling are all better alternatives. Parents must pay close attention to what is being taught. And...Mark Levin is also correct: body-cams for all teachers!

    Teachers--yeah.
    Those in the Unions (not all) tend to be long-term simply because they are that--long -termed--matters not whether they are actually effective at "teaching" only how long they have been around(tenure)-
    I my experience, those "teachers" are incompetant to the extreme-plug a video in and leave the classroom--no interaction-no questions answered.
    Their only qualification is how long they have been around(tells you a lot about the veracity of the local school board, doesn't it)?
    How about the Golden apple awards for example-many who win this vote by the students depend solely on how many cookies they bring to class--the students have no basis to determine the quality of the instruction--they accept what the teacher says--they have no bar to determine if the instruction is valid or not.
    Teacher's unions(just like any other union) have one goal--money--in many cases it matters not the subject of the teaching--it only matters whether the "teacher" can secure a position next year to keep the $ flowing----

    Mike, my daughters are homeschooled and have been for the past four years. We use Arkansas virtual academy curriculum. I have reached out to the principal to ensure that CRT will not be taught and she emailed me that CRT was outlawed in Arkansas. Can you verify that for me?

    The NEA speaks only for Public School Teachers. They have forgotten that their major goal is to educate students to live and work in our Democratic Republic.. They have become like many in Washington; corrupted, pay backs, listening to teachers who feel they know what is best for our children. Send your children to Christian schools and charter schools ( especially charter schools founded by graduates of TEACHERS colleges where method courses are not optional but required ) or home school your children and get help from retired teachers who love to teach in their senior years. If you are teachers who are unhappy with your state's curriculum and the lack of history, civics, lack of vocational training, etc. it is time to speak up and help parents in your state to wage Education Reform now. Public schools are yours for the taking. They need help. NEA won't do it. Remember the words of the Russian Prime leader Mr. K to JFK; we won't use bombs to take over the US; we will do it through your youth. I was in college studying to become a teacher, I remember those words: I am retired now but know my classes learned US history and what it means to be a citizen. So Mr. and Mrs. Citizen wake up and demand education reform in your state now.

    Mr. Huckabee,
    As a teacher and a soon to be former member of the NEA, I was appalled to read that CRT was not only being pushed by the NEA, but the union also vowed to “fight back” against anyone who disagreed with its racist garbage. It led me to research further just exactly where my union dues have been going. Needless to say, I was not only appalled, I was, as we say in my neck of the woods, “ticked” to put it mildly. Teachers need to educate themselves about exactly what the union that is supposed to be protecting them is actually doing: touting “anti-racism” (aka: racism), funding organizations which in turn directly fund Planned Parenthood, supporting Black Lives Matter (the Marxist organization, not the concept), and donating over 60 million dollars to Democrat politicians. I implore every teacher or NEA member reading this to think long and hard about getting out. There are alternatives!

    You have no doubt experienced, or at least seen, the arrogance of the NEA and other teachers' unions with respect to their teaching of Critical Race Theory. They unapologetically declare that they know best what to teach our children and will use taxpayer money to undermine any opposition by parents.

    We have given educators carte blanche in their tyranny. We shrugged it off when they abandoned the fundamental religious and ethical principles of Christianity that our forefathers taught. When they banned prayer in schools, we capitulated with little complaint. They took over the sexual education of our children, and at ever earlier ages, with just pocket resistance from us. When the PTA and its shared leadership disappeared and teacher's unions elbowed their way to exclusivity, we were too busy or preoccupied to notice. So educators are quite accustomed to throwing their weight around with impunity, after all. They're doing it again.

    This time, after the slow deterioration of character-and-values reinforcement in our schools, we are at a tipping point with this CRT craze; and, if we want to keep America, we need stop this nonsense even if, with educator elites digging 1n resolutely, we must therefore go to war. This time there is no choice.

    Let's say CRT is true, and we really are not a melting pot but a bunch of competing tribes, each more or less indignant at the others for inequities and oppressions both real and imagined. How does a democracy hold together with that? It doesn't; so, with CRT, kiss it goodbye.
    But it's not true. It's an ideological reading of history, unlike any reading of history since the country's founding. That is, for two hundred years, America was understood as a wonderful, against-the-odds heterogeny of freedom, with warts—yes!—but with amazing accomplishments, solid moral fiber, economic opportunity. In recent times, emphases on our failings have occupied the thoughts of some movers and shakers, who want to turn that history inside out. But it isn't real history, and they shouldn't be teaching it in our schools. In fact, they must not teach it in our schools; and, if they persist, they must be stopped. If they resist, they must be recalled or replaced.

    The most effective way to do this, it seems to meif it could be feasible (it's a monumental task) would be for thousands, tens of thousands, to refuse to pay the school portion of their taxes, not merely in protest, but to deny teachers' unions the funds to oppose us, the culture and common sense (it's our money after all, and shouldn't be used against us). We do this, and they're out of business.

    In any case CRT, the most recent in a long line of destructive changes in the history of American schools, may be in a generation from nowif not soonerthe end of America as we know it.

    Mr. Huckabee, I returned to college in the 1980’s to get my degree in elementary education and a friend of mine who had been in education told me whatever I did upon graduation not to join the NEA because they were a group not to be trusted. That is so be evident today especially by your post. They are indeed indoctrinating our children at all ages in the education system and I have a granddaughter now 19 who is a prime example in her liberal far left thinking. It breaks my heart. She will say she was no coerced in her schools but I know she was by things she shared. I would never put my children in the public school system today! Ever!!!!

    It is time that the American family decided to cut ties with the NEA and all other teacher unions. These unions are not the least concerned about children or what they should learn about this great country and the founding fathers.
    What they need to teach is that those who sold the black slaves to the colonies, were their own people( black slave owners).
