The news right now is full of breathless, hysterical reporting on stories that are completely unsurprising.
Hollywood and Capitol Hill are full of powerful and semi-powerful men who take sexual advantage of women (and sometimes young men) who are simply trying to have careers in their chosen fields. Who knew? Hillary enabled Bill’s “misdeeds” for years, with help from willing friends in the media. It’s true! The list of Clinton scandals grows ever longer as they fade from public life, with more surely to come out. Unbelievable! And it goes on: Our border with Mexico is a treacherous and deadly place. In North Korea, Kim Jong-Un bleeds all enjoyment out of living under his pudgy little thumb. Two turkeys have been pardoned for Thanksgiving (and I don’t mean Bill and Hillary).
And now we learn the judge who has placed a permanent injunction against Trump’s order to withhold grants from sanctuary cities is an Obama appointee who raised at least $200,000 for him and donated $38,000 to pro-Obama committees, as well as $51,000 to the DNC. Does this surprise you? Me, neither.
And are you shocked that this is the same black-robed Democrat, Judge William Orrick III of California’s Northern District, who issued that restraining order against releasing undercover videos supporting allegations that Planned Parenthood was selling fetal tissue? You’re not? Same here.
But here’s one bit of pleasantly surprising news: Former congressman Jason Chaffetz has a suggestion for dealing with the sanctuary cities ruling: throw it back to Congress and let them include Trump’s wording in the reauthorization for all funding of the federal government. The deadline for that happens to be coming up on December 8. Of course, that strategy doesn’t necessarily stop a determined judge from “finding” some other basis for achieving the ruling he wants to make, but it might, at least for now.
