Today's Edition
--------------------------
Today is Veterans Day, so this will be an abbreviated edition of the newsletter. There’s plenty of political nonsense in the news that I could write about, but that would trivialize this day. It can all wait until tomorrow. Today is about something for more important than some hack Washington politician’s petty, partisan pursuit of power.
Memorial Day in May is to honor veterans who gave their lives in defense of America. But Veterans Day is to honor all veterans, living or dead, past and present.
It began as Armistice Day, declared by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks of Birmingham, Alabama, began a personal crusade to expand Armistice Day into a state holiday honoring all veterans. In 1953, an Emporia, Kansas, shoe store owner named Al King launched a campaign to make it a national holiday. Just one year later, in 1954, he succeeded. It helped that the President was a retired army general from Kansas named Dwight Eisenhower.
So be sure to fly your flags today. And if you see someone in uniform, this is a great day to say “Thank you” for protecting America’s freedom. Then again, any day is a great day to do that.
With gratitude,
Mike Huckabee

FEATURED STORY
The greatest American heroes are real
These days, we’re bombarded with media-created heroes, from sports, music and movies. But the greatest American heroes are real. They’re the men and women of the United States military, past and present. These are the heroes who took on the duty of protecting our freedoms, our homeland and the defenseless around the world. They knew it might require the ultimate sacrifice, but they didn’t turn away.
There should be nothing partisan about supporting our veterans. No matter where you are on the political spectrum, your right to express your beliefs is protected by them. When they come home after giving so much for us, the very least we can do is to provide them with the best health care possible to treat the wounds they received on our behalf.
It was tragically obvious in recent years, from the high rates of suicide and addiction among veterans to long wait times at VA clinics, that our heroes were not getting the care they deserve. Worse, some of the people entrusted with providing them with care knowingly denied it, covered up the terrible consequences, and even enriched themselves out of money set aside for veterans. Too often, bureaucrats who abused the public trust were allowed to keep their jobs and even collect lavish pensions. It’s always wrong, but when our veterans are the victims, then the only taxpayer-paid retirement the culprits deserve is a prison cell.
Fortunately, President Trump genuinely cares about veterans, and he’s made cleaning up the VA a top priority. The new Veterans Administration website at www.va.gov is a great start at making it easy and understandable for veterans to find the help they need.
And if you are a veteran or know a veteran who needs help accessing benefits of any kind, I highly recommend the group Patriot Angels at www.patriotangels.com. You might be missing out on benefits you don’t even know you’re eligible for. I believe so strongly in Patriot Angels that you’ll see my face on their website, and a link to a “Huck’s Hero” appearance by their founder on “Huckabee.”
These days conservatives are pointing with alarm to the rising debt, while Democrats are proposing spending tens of trillions more on giveaway programs. I know that the national debt is out of control and spending needs to be cut, not exponentially increased. But a reminder to all those inside the Beltway from those us who live in the real world:
You don’t slash your top priority, and you don’t go on a spending spree when you can’t afford necessities. And providing timely, top quality health care for our veterans, without whom there would be no United States of America, should always be our top priority and an unquestionable necessity.

I wanted to make sure you also read this comment:
Not only is today Veterans Day, but Sunday, November 10th, was the 244th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. It commemorates the day in 1775 when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Marines to serve in the war against Great Britain. After the Revolutionary War ended, the Marines were disestablished for a time until President John Adams reestablished the Marines as we know the Corps now, on July 11, 1789. But November 10th, 1775, is still considered the birth of the US Marines.
At the link is President Trump’s official message on the Marines’ birthday. And “Semper fi” to all who have served!
Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)
"Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."
- 1 Corinthians 1:10
