Faith takeaway points from Trump’s 2020 announcement

June 21, 2019

On Tuesday evening, President Trump delivered his official 2020 presidential announcement speech to a packed arena of supporters in Florida, where he discussed his accomplishments from his time in office and his goals for the future.

“Tonight, I stand before you to officially launch my campaign for a second term as president of the United States.”

– President Trump

And on the other side of the aisle, Democrats have more than 20 prominent candidates in the race for president. The upcoming debates and months on the campaign trail will soon begin to narrow down the field.

We will follow both President Trump’s campaign, the Democratic candidates, and exciting races across the country so that you can keep up with what candidates are saying on the issues related to our Christian faith.

Here are three critical statements from President Trump’s address worth noting.

1. The Sanctity of Life

President Trump stated, “Virtually, every top Democrat also now supports taxpayer-funded abortion right up to the moment of birth. Ripping baby straight from the mother's womb, leading Democrats have even opposed measures to prevent the execution of children after birth.”

He continued, “You saw that. In Virginia, Republicans believe that every life is a sacred gift from God. That is why I have asked Congress to prohibit extreme late-term abortion.”

Top of mind for many Christians in the upcoming presidential election is the topic of life and how we eliminate abortion in this country. President Trump’s comments, and his actions as President, put him at the opposite end of this debate from the top Democratic candidates who support abortion in nearly all cases.

There is no greater attack on God’s creation than when we terminate the innocent life of someone made in the very image of God (Genesis 1:27). There is no principle more fundamental than the right to live from conception until natural death.

2. Standing with Israel

“We have repaired America's friendship with our cherished ally, the state of Israel.” Trump continued, “we recognized the true capital of Israel and opened the American embassy in Jerusalem and we recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.”

President Trump has reaffirmed his administration’s alliance with Israel, and his strong support has been welcomed by many Christians and Jews alike.

In Genesis 12:3 God says of Israel, “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.” Israel has long been America’s closest ally in the Middle East, but far more importantly, they have always been God’s chosen people.

3. Our National Motto

And in closing, President Trump said, “As one America, we believe in the American Constitution and the rule of law. We believe in the dignity of work and the sanctity of life. We believe that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the true American way. We believe that children should be taught to love our country, honor our history, and always respect our great American flag, and we will live by the words of our national motto: In God we Trust.”

Scripture says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

As Christians, we must always look to elect leaders who defend our values and believe that God is the ultimate authority in this nation.

We will be hearing a lot more from the campaign trail in the coming months, and will continue to bring you faith updates as we pray for God’s will to be done in our nation, think about the issues from a biblical perspective, and remember to do our part and vote.

United. We Stand.

I stand with our President on every point made here! He is the first President to have real Christian values to follow the Constitution of
our United States of American. He is the most courageous President I’ve ever known of and I’ve known them back as far as Eisenhower.
