Evening Edition - December 20

December 20, 2019

I mentioned yesterday that while the media were distracted with covering (and in some cases, celebrating) the impeachment vote, other important stories were being ignored. For instance, you might have heard that the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 (NDAA 2020), blandly described as a “national defense bill” to keep the military funded, protect the homeland and give a raise to our soldiers. Naturally, President Trump is expected to sign it. But he might want to read carefully first.  It's a textbook illustration of the need for a line item veto.

Here’s what you weren’t told: buried in its thousands of pages were a lot of surprises, including amnesty for about 4,000 Liberian illegal aliens, visas for 4,000 Afghan officials, paid family leave for government employees, and something called the “Fair Chance Act” that bars the government from asking job applicants if they have a criminal record (aren't there enough criminals working in our government already?)

https://www.conservativereview.com/news/ban-box-pro-criminal-legislation-snuck-national-defense-bill/

Also tucked away amid all the verbiage is something called the “Parole in Place” act that supposedly helps the families of military members, but that critics say overturns one of Trump’s executive orders tightening immigration law and creates legislative precedent for a future Democratic President to greatly expand amnesty for illegal aliens.

https://cis.org/Arthur/Why-Parole-Place-NDAA

What do programs like this have to do with the military? Only that they’re hidden inside this massive bill like soldiers inside the Trojan Horse.

As Daniel Horowitz in the first article linked above reminds us, this is what James Madison was talking about when he said, “It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.”

On the plus side, another story that was obscured by the impeachment brouhaha was that while the House was doing what it had no business doing, the Senate was actually taking care of business by confirming 13 more Trump judicial nominees in two days (12 on Thursday alone!) That makes a total of 187 Trump-nominated judges so far, far outstripping Obama.

https://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/475420-senate-confirms-13-trump-judicial-nominees-in-end-of-year-sprint

A spokesman for one leftwing legal organization fumed that this was “the most underrated story of the Trump era.” They accuse Republicans of “stacking the courts,” which I guess is only bad if you do it by winning the White House and Senate, but fine when you do it by rewriting the Constitution to bloat the Supreme Court to 18 seats. Since the left's go-to tactic for imposing policies the public would never vote for is to get unelected judges to write laws, it must be terrifying for them to see the courts getting “stacked” with judges who will actually do their jobs according to the Constitution rather than following Nancy Pelosi’s example and just making it up as they go along.

--------------------------

I know you were probably burned out on watching Democrats lie to you, but there was another Presidential debate last night. Even though they were down to only seven candidates, it still lasted three hours! It was like watching Martin Scorcese’s “The Irishman,” only the Trump-hating stars were even older.

The debate almost didn’t come off because the candidates refused to cross a food workers’ picket line, but the DNC intervened on the union’s behalf and got a tentative deal that allowed the debate to go on. In other words, they used their political power to coerce the bosses into giving them something that benefited them in the 2020 election, or as Adam Schiff calls that, a “quid pro quo” (i.e., an IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE!!)

It’s generally agreed that there were a few exciting dust-ups and the PBS moderators were better and tougher than those on CNN and MSNBC (they must not have gotten the memo that said their unofficial job title was “cheerleaders.”) Biden and Warren were deemed reasonably strong, Klobuchar was the standout, and Buttigieg had the worst night. The others ganged up on Mayor Pete, slamming him for his lack of experience and taking donations from billionaires (pretty hilarious, considering all the money the party takes from George Soros, Hollywood and Silicon Valley, not to mention they have TWO billionaire candidates, one of whom was standing on stage at that very moment, for no discernible reason.)

Warren slammed Buttigieg for holding a fundraiser in a crystal-filled cave with $900-a-bottle wine, and asked who do you think would attend that? I was going to guess Mike Bloomberg, but Marianne Williamson might show up for the crystals.

To me, the overriding theme, as it so often is at these debates, was the total denial of reality. For instance…

Whenever Democrats aren’t in power, they talk about America as if we’re in a Great Depression (when only they are.) They paint a picture of workers suffering and the middle class collapsing, when that was only true when they were in power. Since Trump took over, we have record-low unemployment and rising wages in all demographics, but you’d never know it from watching that.

On impeachment, we got the now-familiar rhetoric about honoring the Founders and the Constitution, coming from the leaders of a party who’ve spent the past few years telling us that the Founders were old, slave-owning white guys whose statues should be torn down and the Constitution is an outdated parchment that should be considered a “living document” and completely rewritten. Who knew these liberals were all such strict constructionists?

Mayor Pete continued pushing the false narrative that then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence oppressed him somehow. He claimed he has proven wide appeal to voters because he’s a “gay dude who won in Mike Pence’s Indiana,” smearing Pence and his home state as synonyms for homophobic bigots. In fact, Pence was never anything but kind and supportive toward him, South Bend is a longtime Democrat stronghold (hence its current problems), and out of a population of about 100,000, in his landslide reelection win, he garnered a whopping 8,515 votes.

Warren was asked about economists who say her massive spending plans would require huge tax hikes, and she simply dismissed them as “plain wrong.” Some liberal pundits called her response “brilliant,” but I think they’ve confused that term with “plain delusional.”

Joe Biden managed to avoid nipping at Bernie Sanders’ waving hands, but I can’t imagine anyone voting for someone for President who has such a cavalier attitude about the negative effects of his policies on Americans. When asked if he would push his anti-fracking agenda even if it cost hundreds of thousands of jobs, he answered yes without the slightest hesitation. These people never seem to have a moment’s concern about spending other people’s money and killing other people’s jobs. Joe claimed he would create better-paying jobs than the good-paying fracking jobs. I guess that means he plans to get us all $80,000-a-month gigs on the board of Burisma.

If you really want to hear more on this, Mary Anne Marsh has a write-up with clips at Fox News:

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/december-democratic-debate-winners-losers-mary-anne-marsh

But the most entertaining way to absorb the event is to scroll back through a couple of live blogs of it, such as Stephen Green’s at PJ Media…

https://pjmedia.com/blog/liveblogevent/drunkblogging-the-democratic-debate-impeach-this/

...and the crew at Townhall.com. There are some great observations and sharp one-liners in this, such as Katie Pavlich’s comment that the way these candidates talk about climate change, it’s going to kill us all before Nancy Pelosi sends the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

https://townhall.com/liveblog/2019/12/19/seven-not-very-diverse-candidates-square-off-in-pbspolitico-democratic-debate-n80

I knew AOC had some problems in the thinking department, but she’s now apparently mistaking her own reflection for someone sitting across the aisle from her.

From yesterday:

Abortion activists don’t spend all their time and energy trying to prevent pregnant women from learning the truth about what abortion really is.  They’ve also been working to promote the widespread availability of abortion-inducting drugs by claiming they’re a safe alternative to early-term abortion with little-to-no complications or side effects.  If you saw the movie “Unplanned,” you’ll remember that was what Abby Johnson was told, and she thought she was going to die from the painful side effects.

Well, in the interest of helping women make a truly informed choice about their reproductive health, here’s a story about a study recently published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.  It found that abortions induced by drugs given to women up to the 10th week of pregnancy are far more dangerous than advertised, and have a complication rate four times higher than surgical abortion.

https://www.lifenews.com/2019/12/18/studies-show-abortion-pill-is-dangerous-for-women-24-women-have-died-thousands-injured/

Here’s a quote from that article:

“According to the research, risks include ruptured ectopic pregnancies, hemorrhage, infection and retained pregnancy tissue, which require surgery in as many as one in 20 women. The FDA reports at least 24 women have died along with their unborn babies from the drugs, and thousands more have been injured.”  Between 2000 and 2018, the FDA reports there have been 24 deaths, 97 ectopic pregnancies, 1,042 hospitalizations, 599 blood transfusions, and 412 infections (including 69 severe infections), with a total of 4,195 adverse events reported,” due to these drugs.  And it could be much higher, since only 28 states require clinics to report such complications.

Meanwhile, the abortion industry claims they’re so safe, they dispense them remotely by webcam so that women don’t even have to see a doctor before taking them.

Tell me again about how these people are the guardians of women’s health.

Interesting story about how, despite more than $1 billion in spending to eliminate homelessness, Seattle’s homeless problem just keeps getting worse. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that “progressive” officials are spending most of the money on fighting “oppression” and “(interrogating) the current structures of power” in order to “examine the legacies of structural racism in our systems, and co-design a path towards liberation with black, indigenous, brown and other marginalized communities.”

https://www.city-journal.org/seattle-progressive-municipal-employees

Silly me, I would have spent the money on shelters, drug and alcohol programs, mental health care and job placement.  Let’s hope that the next increase in the homeless population comes from those officials being thrown out of office and into the street.

I believe that President Reagan actually got a line item veto passed only to have it declared an unconstitutional invasion of the legislative power of Congress. With all the executive orders being signed, I wonder if the SCOTUS would decide differently today; anyway, Trump signed the bill because he got wall funding and military funding in my view.

If the Left weren't so paralyzed by the prospect of people of color, they might actually get something done. Their unwillingness to view them as just "people" instead of "...black, indigenous, brown and other marginalized communities,” gets in the way of treating these people as they would anyone else. So liberals force the type of help on these "marginalized" communities they think they should want, rather than realizing what an average person in the same circumstances would want. After all these years, liberals still don't understand what ALL people who bleed red want: peace, safety, prosperity, ownership, and a level playing field.

I feel really bad for Trump as they are trying to get him to resign with all of the pressures. I would hate to see that happen. Whoa be us if Democrats take over and destroy this Nation in their image.

Homeless in Seattle? The governer has been more conerned about signing a law outlawing the sale of eggs chickens that are not raised cage free than he is about the homeless.
Some people call our military "baby killers", but should be looking in a mirror and say the same to themselves concerning abortion.

Laugh at your comparison of the Demo debate and the Irishman. I saw the Irishman over thanksgiving though I have no love for a few of the actors. did give a good concept of the Mafia from that time. I do not watch the Demo debates. WHY? I know what this President has been trying to do and is doing? What and where did they give all kinds of jobs during Pres Obama run. I did vote for him the second time. Sorry. I am hoping to see that Pres Trump is going to bring about an AFFORDABLE health care plan not an Obamacare that was not? Something has to be done to change the cost that is so high and drugs many cannot afford. Making high profits off the sick is not very caring or religious. Rest of the world does not do this why do we?

My favorite part of the comments you made is "Lets hope that the next increase in the homeless population comes from those officials being thrown out of office and into the street."
I would praise the Lord for the remaining days of my life if that would happen. What a wonderful thing that would be. Oh my goodness how I want it. What a blessing that would be for America.

Why didn't the republicans read this? Did they want all this other junk in it? I am very disappointed in all that voted for this. It will undermine this entire country and especially what Pres. Trump has been trying to do for us. This practice of sneaking other bills in has to stop. A law needs to be passed to prevent this from happening again.

Very very good. I especially like the last paragraph. I’m a former Seattle resident. I grew up there and raised my family there. However I don’t ever want to go back. The city has been destroyed.

    Thanks for the good work.

The Defense Spending Bill should be just that. All the other "stuff" has not place in this bill or any other bill for that matter. Please encourage the president to line item veto this garbage.

It is interesting that the headlines in the news and all references to impeachment are past tense, Trump fourth president to be impeached. Not true until Nancy delivers the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. As long as everyone keeps saying Trump IS impeached people believe it to be fact. There should be more stressed about this to force Dems hand. They needed him to be thought of as impeached for their supporters and they
maybe trying to stall so that WHEN Trump is reelected they can then impeach him during his second term. Adam Shhit, says Trump is a grave danger to America and needs to be impeached immediately, again lying Shhit.
What do you think about this?

Our elected royalty just keep on proving to me their ignorance about our government and how it is structured. The Ds and the Rs spend a majority of their time fighting over the White House. Why don’t they step back from their hatred for each other and us voters and realize that controlling both houses, the senate and the house is the best way to stymie a President. The democrats, why they call themselves democrats is beyond belief, there is nothing democratic about them. This impeachment circus will cost them at the ballot box. Controlling both houses gives them the advantage of thwarting a presidents agenda. Executive orders only cover so much and excessive executive orders show a lack of leadership qualities, as was the case with Obama. Controlling the purse strings makes a president willing to meet you on your terms. I find a complete lack of understanding by these POLITICAL GENUISES a really laughable moment.

I live in Washington State, the liberal council of Seattle was up for election this year, its a bunch of liberal extreme left radicals, they were loosing badly in the reelection, then at the last minute, again, a whole bunch of votes were found all in their favor, and they squeeked across the finish line. Its hard for conservatives to win in this state. Now when we vote something out, the authorities in power, stop it and put their own ideas in, because they want the money, that was voted down. Right now we have petitions in place to get rid of corrupt officials, but they just ignore it. We have a couple good people coming up in elections next year for governor. Enslee, has been the worse, we voted down an additional gas tax, and Enslee, adds another of his own to cover it. Talking about ignoring the people. The problem is, with the dems in control of the voting booths, how do we know it is fair? We don't.

    Mike,
RE: "rewriting the Constitution to bloat the Supreme Court to 18 seats." The Constitution does not specify a number. The number has actually varied over the last 230 years. FDR tried to pack the Supreme Court in the 1930s, but cooler heads, including some intellectually honest democrats, blocked his maneuver. Unfortunately, we seem to be without any intellectually honest democrats..... anywhere.

My comments in the past was and still is just keep talking Lefties the more they talk; the Independents believe it or not are finally figuring out how insane the left is. The deeper the Left wants to get into America's pocket the resistance is now resist the Left; people with Family want to be able to finance their monthly bills to attach more out going finances for people outside their family structure is becoming clear to them Health care cost are rising due to Undocumented people using our trauma centers and emergency rooms our schools have to teach many different languages slowing the advancement of our students; conservative know the problems of the foreign invasion, the Independents are starting to catch up it is affecting the family bottom line keep talking Lefties hopefully we can get a handle on illegal immigration by taking the House back and adding a few more Senate seats. Please keep talking!!! MAGA KAG

These people are neither the "guardians of women's health" or anyone else's "health" ....including psychological, mental, emotional, and, most importantly, spiritual health because, without IT, life is mere existence without any real meaning...or hope FOR the homeless and downtrodden!

As I wrote in a previous comment, you may not have been elected, by the people, to be the leader of the Republican Party in their political battle with their adversarial "enemy" the Democratic Party, but you sure have shown yourself to be GOD'S leader of His spiritual warfare against HIS adversarial enemy, the devil himself!

What you express in this newsletter....as well as ALL your newsletters....is how GOD sees the reality of this political conflict...and BECAUSE the real conflict is between HIS truth and the lies of Satan all those who see as YOU (He) see are already ON the winning team!.....And THAT is what recruits in your (HIS) army have to become aware of!

And, just as an aside thought....in view of the fact that there has been so much talk ABOUT the corruption Joe Biden, and his son, have been accused of, is it not also hypocritical that he should be the number one Democratic "runner?" I mean, he IS the number one runner because of Democratic support...therefore, while, on the one hand, they want to destroy their President because he violated the LAWS of the Constitution, on the other hand, they want to elevate TO the office of the Presidency one who is guilty of the very sin they are accusing their President of committing!....Will 2 + 2 ever equal 4 again?
