DAILY BIBLE VERSE

CBS’ “Sixty Minutes” covers for Ray Epps

That loud water rushing sound you heard Sunday was not your pipes bursting. It was the sound of whatever remaining shards of credibility that CBS’ “Sixty Minutes” still possessed being flushed down the toilet.

https://redstate.com/jenniferoo/2023/04/24/60-minutes-basically-screams-leave-ray-epps-alone-n735895

The show, for unclear reasons, attempted to convince America that Ray Epps -- the man accused of doing things at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, that got other people thrown into solitary and yet he was never charged -- is an innocent scapegoat and victim of cruel slanders. Also, any suspicions that he might be a government plant are due to conservative media stirring up “convoluted conspiracy” theories via “misinformation” like…well, sharing video of Epps doing all those things. He even bragged that he organized the assault on the Capitol. Yet he has mysteriously been allowed to skate away scot-free while others for whom there’s far less evidence of wrongdoing were hounded to the ends of the Earth.

Not since Lesley Stahl piously “corrected” Donald Trump’s allegedly false allegation that his campaign was being spied on has “Sixty Minutes” looked like a bigger shill for a pack of Deep State liars. If you have a strong enough stomach, you can watch the entire thing here, but also read Jennifer Roo of Redstate.com’s commentary on it.

https://redstate.com/jenniferoo/2023/04/24/60-minutes-basically-screams-leave-ray-epps-alone-n735895

And here’s Bonchie’s commentary on the worst gaslighting since Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman:

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2023/04/22/ray-epps-is-going-on-60-minutes-and-the-gaslighting-has-already-started-n735151

A sample quote:

“If Epps and the federal government have an explanation for why the one guy caught on tape inciting January 6th managed to avoid even being charged while grandmas who took selfies outside were prosecuted, then let’s hear it. Instead, we continue to be treated to nonsensical assertions that Epps was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and had no ill intent, as if that offered protection for anyone else who was present.”

If “Sixty Minutes” really wanted to do an expose on the innocent victims of January 6th defamation, there are a multitude of better choices, beginning with Brandon Straka. But that wouldn’t serve the narrative.

When “Sixty Minutes” tweeted out their blurb for this story, I don’t think they anticipated the ferocity of the public response. If you look hard enough, you can find a few liberals crying, “But TRUUUUMP!,” but it’s mostly brutal responses illustrated by multiple video clips of Epps doing things on January 6th that would have gotten any of us shipped off to Gitmo.

Sheer surreal nuttiness

I assumed that the Biden White House would refuse to work with Republicans in Congress to do anything about the spiraling national debt, and that they would demagogue any attempts to get them to rein in their runaway deficit spending. But give them credit for creativity. Even I didn’t think they’d come up with the level of sheer surreal nuttiness that Biden spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre spewed on Friday.

https://www.westernjournal.com/kjp-floats-bizarre-claim-republicans-giving-kids-asthma-melting-bones/

Did you know that asking Democrats to scale back their spending increases to only 1% more would result in giving “asthma to our children” and allowing oil companies to use toxic chemicals that “quite literally melt bones”? Thank goodness Kevin McCarthy didn’t ask them to actually spend less or the Earth might have plummeted into the Sun!

Narrative-Busting Monday

According to a new Issues & Insights poll, 58% of Americans support Florida’s new school choice law that allows all parents “regardless of race, income, background, or zip code” to withdraw their kids from public or charter schools and get direct funding to pay for private school tuition, homeschooling, online learning, tutoring or whatever they think is the best education option. Only 25% oppose it with 17% “unsure.” Among parents with kids under 18, a whopping 82% support it with only 12% opposed. So could the media stop calling it "controversial" now?

https://issuesinsights.com/2023/04/24/will-school-choice-be-the-winning-issue-in-2024-ii-tipp-poll/

And while Chicago’s leftist leaders make excuses for teenage violence and claim that enforcing laws or behavior standards is racist, in an event organized by black churches, about 500 black men marched in downtown Chicago Saturday against the recent youth violence. Their message was that they weren’t condemning young people, but that they need to learn that there’s another way in life and there is “behavior accepted and not acceptable.”

Elon Musk trolls the elite

If anyone ever wonders why a man like Elon Musk, who has revolutionized multiple industries and has $140 billion, would spend his time overseeing a time sink like Twitter, it has to be because he’s having so much fun trolling self-important celebrities.

When he first bought Twitter and vowed to end censorship of conservatives, allowing people that Hollywood leftists disagreed with to actually have First Amendment rights, many of them flew into snits and ostentatiously declared that they were leaving Twitter for good. Of course, like their vows to move to Canada if Trump was elected in 2016, most didn’t really mean it. It was just to win them a shot of attention, which is Hollywood’s version of heroin for celebrities not actually hooked on heroin. For all their huffing and puffing, most would never really give up a chance to inflict their dumb politics on the world, and then bask in all the “likes” from their fans.

But then, Musk did the unforgivable: he took away their blue checks! Actually, he didn’t, really. He just changed the system so that instead of celebrities and politicians getting the “verified account” symbol while anyone else who wanted it had to jump through hoops, he made it simple: Anyone could get blue check verification for $8 a month, and he even threw in several extra benefits for the paid tier. Seems like a pretty good deal to me, and it gave Twitter a revenue stream other than intrusive ads.

Well, you would’ve thought he was demanding their first born, or worse, their Emmy Awards, from all the caterwauling by celebrities from Alyssa Milano to Lebron James. Maybe some of them actually couldn’t afford $8 a month, since their careers seem to have dwindled to writing nasty political diatribes on Twitter. But Lebron James? I think he can afford it.

To his credit, Elon responded by toying with them and tormenting them. For instance, he started a fundraiser to pay the $8 a month for celebrities who couldn’t afford it. Some tried to virtue signal by removing their blue checks and calling on others to do the same and to block anyone with a blue check. So Musk returned their blue checks for free, leaving them to rave and sputter that they didn’t pay for that. Check out the hilarious ways in which he's dealt with Charlie Sheen, Bette Midler and other hysterical, hypocritical (and really cheap) leftwing celebrities.

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2023/04/22/liberals-pull-petty-blue-check-move-to-hurt-elon-but-he-hilariously-checkmates-them-n735375

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2023/04/22/elon-trolls-charlie-sheen-and-exposes-how-desperate-liberals-are-to-be-special-over-us-n735286

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2023/04/22/elon-drops-best-joke-of-the-day-on-whiny-liberals-in-the-blue-check-war-n735528

Wealthy author Stephen King also made a big public show of spurning his free blue check, snarking that Musk should give the $8 to Ukraine. Musk replied, “I’ve donated $100 million to Ukraine. How much have you donated?” FYI, he also provided Ukraine with satellite Internet service that’s one of the major reasons they’ve been able to fight back so effectively against Russia.

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2023/04/23/elon-musk-dunks-on-stephen-king-over-ukraine-and-exposes-the-lefts-faux-virtue-n735608

That last link is especially good because Bonchie at Redstate.com makes an excellent point about how empty these celebrities’ virtue signaling is – just put a Ukrainian flag on your Twitter profile and you’re morally superior to the guy who actually saved Ukraine and gave them $100 million. But beyond that, they also claim to care so much about “our democracy,” but when Musk really does democratize Twitter by making their perks available to everyone – or asks them to pay even a tiny subsidy for their special privileges - they explode like Mount Vesuvius. Where did they get the idea that a private corporation like Twitter owes them a worldwide forum for free? Do they get cable TV for free as well?

Full disclosure: I still have a Twitter blue check because I did what they refuse to do: I pay the eight lousy bucks a month. I think it’s worth it for the verification plus the extra benefits, that companies that provide me with a service deserve to get paid for it, and I don’t have a massive sense of entitlement. Let these celebs block me; they probably already have anyway. And when they finally end their tantrums, I predict that most of them will remain on Twitter because they can’t stand giving up the attention. Maybe some of them will even stick a crowbar in their wallets and pay for their privilege.

America faces a war of values that will determine its future and likely decide if it will continue as a great nation on the world stage. Mike Huckabee and Steve Feazel sound a needed alarm to Christians and conservatives to answer the call to action and push back against the forces that desire to move America from its heritage and founding principles. It is time for God's people to take an active role in the political arena, not with violence, but with votes and voices that proclaim and defend the values that made our nation the brightest light of freedom the world has ever known.

Bed, Bath & Beyond files for bankruptcy

Bed, Bath & Beyond just became the latest in a string of national retailers to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

https://www.westernjournal.com/large-us-retailer-files-chapter-11-bankruptcy/

Its stores will remain open for now, but the iconic 20% off coupons will only be accepted through Tuesday. After that, look for a massive going-out-of-business sale. I hate to see this because it means a lot of people are going to be losing their jobs.

The linked story has more details about the company’s insurmountable problems. There’s not a word about consumers abandoning them after they stopped carrying MyPillow products, but I can’t tell you how many people have told me that and how many comments I’ve read on news stories about BB&B that have mentioned it. So maybe there’s an element of “Get woke, go broke” in this story that nobody wants to acknowledge.

Clear examples of caving to transgender activists

If you want to see the clearest A-B example of how academia has completely caved to the delusions of bullying trans activists, look no further than these two examples:

Athena Thorne at PJ Media reports that a scientific study from 1994 is circulating on social media. The study by two female Ph.D.’s compared “mothers of boys with gender identity disorder (GID) with mothers of normal boys.” It found that “fifty-three percent of the mothers of boys with GID compared with only 6% of controls met the diagnosis for Borderline Personality Disorder on the Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines or had symptoms of depression on the Beck Depression Inventory.” Some of the “borderline personality disorder” behaviors include intense and/or unstable relationships, suicidal behaviors or threats, impulsive and often dangerous behaviors, abandonment issues, problems controlling anger, and (brace yourself) “a distorted and unstable self-image or sense of self.”

The authors theorized that some of the boys’ gender identity issues were related to their mothers’ child-rearing practices thatencouraged symbiosis and discouraged the development of autonomy.”

https://pjmedia.com/culture/athena-thorne/2023/04/23/study-shows-mothers-of-boys-with-gender-issues-are-mental-n1689518

If you’re thinking, “That makes a lot of sense,” shame on you! You should have stopped reading and flounced off in a rage after the first paragraph, when you saw the triggering words “gender identity DISORDER” and “NORMAL boys.”

And now, 2023…  A professor at King's College London proposed a research study on athletes’ views on whether males should be allowed to compete against females in sports. The school’s Research Ethics Office rejected his proposal on grounds that the terms “male” and “female” constituted “misgendering.”

https://redstate.com/alexparker/2023/04/23/elite-university-rejects-transgender-sports-research-proposal-because-it-uses-the-word-male-n735873

Yes, researchers now aren’t even allowed to use the term “male” when researching attitudes about males. The baffled researcher said he was told to use “easily-understandable language.” He should have known that in a world where highly-“educated” people claim they can’t even define what a “woman” is, there’s no such thing as “easily-understandable language” anymore.

Give him credit

Robert Kennedy Jr. and I certainly have our differences on a number of issues, but give the man credit: when he’s right, he’s right.

https://www.breitbart.com/radio/2023/04/24/exclusive-rfk-jr-slams-dnc-for-rigged-primary-no-debates-moving-south-carolina-to-first-state/

Related: Kennedy’s wife is the gifted and popular comic actress Cheryl Hines of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He revealed that she’s a victim of Hollywood cancel culture and has lost jobs just because she said she supports her own husband’s decision to challenge Joe Biden.

https://www.breitbart.com/radio/2023/04/24/exclusive-rfk-jr-slams-dnc-for-rigged-primary-no-debates-moving-south-carolina-to-first-state/

I’m so old, I remember when Hollywood didn’t like blacklisting people for their political views. They even gave each other Oscars for making movies condemning that. Now they blacklist people from being nominated for Oscars if they don’t like their political views. Want to see the result? Quick, name last year’s Best Picture winner off the top of your head. Don’t feel bad, I couldn’t do it either.

(FYI: It was “CODA.” Still don’t know it? I’m not surprised. It cost $10 million to make and earned $1.9 million at the box office.)

RIP Barry “Dame Edna” Humphries and Len Goodman

By “Huckabee” pop culture guru Pat Reeder (http://www.hollywoodhifi.com)

I’m sad to have to report the passing of two longtime beloved entertainers. Former British ballroom dancing champion Len Goodman has died of bone cancer at 78. Goodman became a TV fixture as the judge on dancing competition shows in Britain and the US, including over a decade as a judge on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” from 2005 to 2016.

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/len-goodman-dancing-stars-head-judge-dead-78

And Tony Award-winning Australian comedian Barry Humphries, aka Dame Edna Everage, has died at 89 from complications of hip surgery after suffering a fall at home.

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/dame-edna-creator-barry-humphries-dies-sydney-89

While Humphries created several popular comic characters, it was as Dame Edna that he became world famous. The snobbish upper-class lady with her chiffon gowns, lilac bouffant and outrageous eyeglasses who called her fans “possums” was the front through which he channeled his hysterical wit and brilliant ad lib skills. Ricky Gervais dubbed him a “comedy genius,” and Piers Morgan called him “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.

Side note: some people are trying to justify sexually-oriented drag shows in elementary schools by pointing to the long tradition of male comics wearing dresses, from Milton Berle to Monty Python. But if they expect us to believe that they see no difference between the brilliance of Dame Edna’s satire for sophisticated adults and a drag queen twerking in the face of an eight-year-old, then they are either incredibly stupid or are doing a really good imitation of it.

Breaking News

This morning, it was announced that President Biden’s domestic policy chief Susan Rice is stepping down. This prompts the question, “Who’ll run the country now?”

https://dailycaller.com/2023/04/24/susan-rice-stepping-down-biden

Biden scandal and cover-up is “All the President’s Men, AGAIN”

“In a conspiracy like this, you build from the outer edges and you go step by step...the list is longer than anyone can imagine...It involves the entire U.S. intelligence community, FBI, CIA, Justice; it’s incredible.  The cover-up had little to do with Watergate; it was mainly to protect the covert operations.  It leads everywhere.”  Essentially, everyone was involved.

That description of the Watergate scandal was from the character of Deep Throat, whispering in a shadowy parking garage to WASHINGTON POST reporter Bob Woodward in ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, which happened to be on TCM this weekend. (If you have TCM, you can stream the film free on their app or their streaming TV channel until April 30.)

The movie was released in 1976 and dealt with events that took place a mere four years earlier, long before modern surveillance techniques and digital communication.  But it was still about an intelligence community gone rogue --- sound familiar? --- with massive (for its time) surveillance capability that had been turned on political enemies.  That scandal led to the resignation of President Nixon and the swearing-in of Gerald Ford.

For a long time, the Biden administration was seemingly immune to any accountability, but now that it’s obvious --- come on, it is --- that Biden can’t be the candidate in ‘24, that’s not necessarily the case.  One new poll shows that over 70 percent of Americans don’t want Biden to run again, including 79 percent of independents.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/23/politics/joe-biden-poll-reelection-2024/index.html

Probably for that reason, it seems as if a memo had gone out to the mainstream media, saying, “Sure, go ahead now and implicate ol’ Joe in the Biden family scandal, as he’s cooked for ‘24 and we’ve got to move somebody else into the running.”

Polls change quickly.  Recall that in the movie, when Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein go to Ben Bradlee with their proof, Bradlee says, “You know the results of the latest Gallup poll?  Half the country never even heard of the word ‘Watergate.’”  But he adds, “Nothing’s riding on this except the First Amendment of the Constitution, freedom of the press and maybe the future of the country.”  Again, sound familiar?

That story started with the arrest of five men who had broken into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in June 1972.  Woodward found out at their arraignment the next day that they had possessed bugging equipment and were being represented by a high-priced “country club”-style lawyer, and also that they were tied to the CIA.  Imagine, our intel agencies spying on domestic political enemies!  Good thing THAT never happens any more.

The end of the movie is a series of teletype news headlines from the WASHINGTON POST, most of which deal with various individuals pleading guilty to charges such as conspiracy, burglary (to bug the Democrat headquarters in DC), lying to a grand jury, lying to the FBI, obstruction of justice and illegal fundraising.  The sentences, the ones we can see, range from 30 days to 6 months.  And, of course, we all know how it ends:  with President Nixon resigning.

The book written by the real-life Woodward and Bernstein, released in 1974, gives us a firsthand contemporaneous account of what was going on half a century ago, and the movie, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards, stays for the most part faithful to the book, or at least the first half of it, as that’s the part that was adapted for the script.  As it happens, this article about the film was written just a few days ago.

https://collider.com/all-the-presidents-men-most-factually-accurate-film-ever-made/

It’s fascinating to watch it today and see journalism as it was practiced back in the 1970s, seeing reporters doing research the old-fashioned way, with exhaustive legwork and lots of dead ends as opposed to a few internet keystrokes that almost guarantee all the reporters will treat the same story in exactly the same way.  The filmmakers even reproduced a precise replica of the WAPO newsroom of that time, right down to the 1972 phone books.  Here are a few fun facts about the movie…

https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/78307/13-investigative-facts-about-all-presidents-men

Roger Ebert said at the time that ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN “succeeds brilliantly in suggesting the mixture of exhilaration, paranoia, self-doubt, and courage that permeated the WASHINGTON POST…”  Today, sadly, we see reporters at WAPO receiving a Pulitzer Prize --- sharing it with reporters at THE NEW YORK TIMES --- for being political hacks playing “scribe” to members of the intel community leaking fake stories.  How ‘journalism’ has changed.  I still say they should have to give their Pulitzer back, but that will never happen. Or better yet, give it to Miranda Divine at the New York Post, who actually earned one.

We hear the term “worse than Watergate” a lot from politicians, so much so that it tends not to even register any more, but after watching this movie again now, you’ll probably agree that the scandals involving the FBI since 2016 are indeed arguably worse.  This time, they’re buttressed by the media, social media, academia and government-funded think tanks (which are aiding and abetting), and, ironically, Hollywood.  Think a mainstream Hollywood movie will be made any time soon about the intelligence community falsely discrediting the Hunter laptop story to save Biden’s candidacy in 2020?  Me, neither, unless the story is somehow twisted to make heroes out of those liars.

So, in light of this 50-year-old scandal, let’s take a look at the latest in the news about Biden family influence-peddling and the intel community’s dedicated efforts to cover it up.  Kentucky Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, says that a dozen members of the Biden family are implicated in their money-making schemes.

“The documentation that I’ve seen --- I can’t comment on all of it, but what I can comment on is that it is bad and is getting worse, and...it is showing illegal moneys from Chinese Communists flowing into this White House,” said Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett, also on the Oversight Committee, to FOX NEWS’ Maria Bartiromo on Friday.  He brought up impeachment of Biden over his potentially compromised position in dealing with Communist China.

Rep. Comer told Maria on Sunday in a must-see interview that there were “many more LLCs” taking in money for the Bidens and “many more countries” involved.  “China was probably one of the most reputable countries that the Biden family was dealing with,” he said.  Watch the full video and be stunned at what China was apparently getting for its investment in, say, 2013.

https://www.foxnews.com/video/6325983464112

Comer told Maria there are six decisions Biden made as Vice President that are “very concerning to us.”  And he said that even with the limited records they’ve accessed so far, it’s obvious they were going to great lengths to disguise the money going to family members and deceive the IRS.

“There’s no rhyme or reason why Hunter Biden shouldn’t have been indicted years ago,” he said, “even before the last presidential election.”  But now he doesn’t know what to do with “this many family members of the President.  There’s not gonna be anybody left for a Christmas picture.”  Well, that’s apparently because Hunter was using his father’s position to play Santa Claus for the whole family.

https://headlineusa.com/a-dozen-biden-relatives-implicated-in-foreign-business-schemes-comer/

RELATED STORIES:  Michael Goodwin at the NEW YORK POST has a very pointed opinion piece about the Biden family’s influence-peddling schemes.  “The breakthroughs,” he says, “include testimony showing how a group of of retired intelligence officials influenced the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, effectively proving the existence of a corrupt Deep State.”  He says “it is possible investigators are on the cusp of revealing one of the largest scandals in the history of American politics.”  The election interference would involve not just retired staff, but current Biden officials such as Secretary of State Tony Blinken and national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

Goodwin offers a foolproof guide to reporters who are unsure about reporting on this: “They should simply ask themselves what they would write or say if the same set of charges and facts involved another President, say, one named Donald Trump.”

https://nypost.com/2023/04/22/bidens-corrupt-web-unraveling-before-our-eyes

Of course, it’s challenging to report the news when the ‘Justice’ Department refuses to turn over the names of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s staff.  Check this out from Judicial Watch...

https://www.judicialwatch.org/jack-smiths-staff/

Finally, Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson are demanding answers after a former FBI agent told them he had to sign a nondisclosure agreement that did not allow legally required whistleblower exceptions.
