Evening Edition - May 31

I’ve linked to several expert legal commentaries on the outrageous extra-legal shenanigans of Robert Mueller, but how about hearing from the smear-ee himself, President Trump?  As you might expect, he didn’t dally with legal niceties in expressing his opinion of what’s going on here.

https://www.westernjournal.com/trump-attacks-totally-conflicted-mueller-unleashes-special-counsel-prosecutors/

One interesting portion to focus on is this quote from Trump:  “Russia didn’t help me get elected. I got me elected. Russia didn’t help me at all. If anything, they helped Hillary. This is all about Russia, Russia, Russia — it turned out to be a hoax.”

That’s key because Trump had earlier sent out a tweet that ignited one of the two big fake news blowups for Thursday.  It read:

“Russia, Russia, Russia! That’s all you heard at the beginning of this Witch Hunt Hoax...And now Russia has disappeared because I had nothing to do with Russia helping me to get elected. It was a crime that didn’t exist.”

That was enough for Trump’s critics to start screaming that he had “admitted” that Russia helped get him elected by saying, “I had nothing to do with Russian helping me get elected.”

https://www.breitbart.com/the-media/2019/05/30/fact-check-no-trump-did-not-admit-russia-helped-him-get-elected/

Breitbart explains at that link what was obvious to anyone with a brain not eaten away by TDS:  that if you look at the context, he referred to it immediately beforehand as a "witch hunt hoax" and immediately afterward as a "crime that didn't exist." So he probably assumed people would get that he meant, "I had nothing to do with the nonexistent hoax story of Russia helping to get me elected."

Claiming that's an admission of guilt is really grasping at straws.  This is why many Trump supporters wish he’d be more careful with the tweets and not give his critics things to attack.  The problem, as this tempest in a teapot shows, is that they will go ballistic over literally anything, no matter how picayune.  To be super-precise, maybe he should have put ironic quotation marks around "Russia helping me to get elected."  But that's academic since the current House Democrats would have no qualms about impeaching him over a disagreement on punctuation in Twitter tweets.

If it hadn’t been that, then they would have claimed that “witch hunt hoax” meant he was admitting that the idea of it being a witch hunt was a hoax.  Or something equally stupid. Trump’s critics are now so far around-the-bend that no matter what he does – whether he speaks, tweets or burps – they will fly into hysterics and cry wolf (or maybe Michael Wolff.)

They claim it’s their duty to be watchdogs over this President.  But do you know what happens when you have a dog that yaps like crazy at everything that moves?  After a while, you learn to tune it out and just ignore it.

The other piece of big, overblown Thursday fake news was the claim that Trump tried to pull a David Copperfield and make a US Navy ship named the USS John McCain disappear from his Memorial Day visit to the troops.  The more you look into this, the less there seems to be to it, but it’s already got a Watergate-inspired media nickname: “Tarp-gate.”

As in, “Throw a tarp over journalism, it’s done.”

https://www.westernjournal.com/trump-says-no-knowledge-meaning-attempts-cover-uss-mccain/

Of course, the media have a ready reply for why they run so much anti-Trump fake news: it’s all Trump’s fault.

A Tale of Two Governors:  In Nevada, Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak vetoed a bill to circumvent the Constitution by giving the state’s Electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote.  He said it would “diminish the role of smaller states like Nevada in national electoral contests.”  Yes, that’s exactly why the Founders created the Electoral College.  Kudos to him for recognizing that, although it would have been nice if he’d also mentioned that it would be illegal, unconstitutional and unconscionable for state officials to give away their own constituents’ voting rights to larger states.

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/446174-nevada-democratic-governor-vetoes-national-popular-vote-bill

Meanwhile, Colorado’s Democratic Governor Jared Polis not only signed that law giving away his voters’ Electoral voting rights, he also just signed a bill barring local law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration agents who are trying to detain or arrest illegal aliens.

https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/29/colorado-polis-immigration-law/

It’s obvious from these two stories that simply being a Democrat doesn’t mean you have contempt for the Constitution and the rights of your own people.  It takes a “progressive” to do that.  Funny how, when it comes to defying the Electoral College rules and federal immigration laws, “progressives” are the biggest states’ rights advocates since Jefferson Davis.  But let a state dare to try to limit abortion, and watch out!  Don't they know that Roe v. Wade is the “law of the land”?!

Here’s a great way to prove you really care about your people: the Palestinian Authority is angry that Israel is deducting the amount of money the PA pays to terrorists (or as the PA calls them, “martyrs”) and their families from the tax revenue it pays the PA.  So the PA is striking back by barring Palestinians from receiving treatment at Israeli hospitals.

https://www.westernjournal.com/anti-israel-boycott-palestine-swears-off-israeli-hospitals-leaving-civilians-untreated

Note that they have no alternative medical care in place for their people.  And they made an exception for one of their own politicians.

So to Americans who are having trouble telling who are the good guys in the Middle East, note this:  Israel makes its top-quality hospital care available to Palestinians, both the poor and even politicians who want to kill Jews.  The Palestinian leaders bar their people from obtaining that care because they’re angry that Israel refuses to provide the money that they give to terrorists to kill Israelis.

If you’re still too dumb to figure out who’s right or wrong here, then you really shouldn’t be in Congress.

Over the next few weeks, we’re braced for the release of some Inspector General reports that I expect will contain shocking information about corruption at high levels of our federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies.  We already have an idea of what’s been going on, and it’s so bad that a report that would normally be a major scandal barely made news.

The first OIG report to be released appeared on Wednesday, and it contains a scathing account of an unnamed Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI repeatedly and flagrantly leaking sensitive government information to the media, and on at least one occasion, accepting an expensive gift from the media.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/bombshell-inspector-general-finds-high-ranking-fbi-official-leaking-sensitive-info-media/

And here’s another part of the report that should have been even more shocking, but will probably come as no surprise at all:  “Prosecution of the [Deputy Assistant Director] was declined.” The matter was referred back to the FBI for action.  Anyone want to hazard a guess on how likely such action will be?

If the government wants to start earning back the squandered trust of the people, they have to start enforcing laws equally.  That means not letting some obviously guilty people skate while declaring that other people have to prove themselves innocent of crimes for which the government found no evidence.  If they have a hard time figuring out what to do with their own corrupt officials, then simply ask themselves: “What would we do if we caught President Trump doing the same thing we caught this other person doing?”

If you’d just spent four years and a lot of work and money getting a degree, which commencement speaker would you rather hear?  Hillary Clinton, who regurgitated a tired list of “progressive” clichés and railed bitterly against the latest person who beat her out for the White House as students yawned in the background?

http://www.theamericanmirror.com/video-hillary-blisters-trump-during-commencement-address-as-grads-zone-out-yawn/

Or President Trump, who used humor, patriotism and pep talk tactics in his speech to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, then stuck around to shake the hands of every one of the nearly 1,000 graduates?

It’s A Small World Dept:  A P.S. to our story about Disney CEO Bob Iger threatening to boycott Georgia for banning the abortion of babies after they have a detectable heartbeat: Disney apparently has no qualms about doing business in Arab countries with much stricter abortion laws than Georgia, or partnering with China, which engages in the repression, torture and confinement in detention camps of millions of Muslims.

https://dailycaller.com/2019/05/30/disney-boycott-georgia-abortion-china-muslim-camps/

Maybe they figure China makes up for that sin with all the baby girls that have been aborted there over the years.

Breaking News: Yesterday, President Trump announced a surprise 5% tariff on Mexican imports until Mexico takes action to stem the flood of illegal migrants into the US.  This was greeted with outrage, mockery and derision by the media, Democrats and Mexican President Lopez Obrador.

And this morning, via Reuters, this just in: “Mexico's President Lopez Obrador asks Trump to have U.S. officials meet with the Mexican foreign minister in Washington on Friday to seek a solution that benefits both nations.”

So does this mean there IS a viable alternative to the standard “smart diplomacy” negotiating tactics of whining, appeasing and apologizing?

I certainly hope that, when the true criminals in the election tampering, in spying of citizens, etc, are exposed that each and every one is held accountable and ends up for years in prison. It will be interesting (maybe even funny) to see how the left with gather around the culprits, make excuses (and, of course, blame all their actions on Donald Trump) to get them off the hook. What will NOT be funny would be if they get away with it. Don't try to be nice guys and forgive them, give them a second chance, etc etc etc when you (not you Gov, but the GOP) know good and darn well any conservative who did such a thing would be so far under the prison they'd never see sun again, as Joe Kenda would say.

Maybe if there was a good, hefty fine and other repercussions for authors and column writers and opinion hosts AND the company they work for, for going with false news, more and more "journalists" and all the others would spend time actually checking into the "stories" sent in of partial videos, some statement by a person with an agenda, before printing it/airing it as real news. You know, like in the good old days--"This just in, there is a situation in ABC city, when FACTS are known, we'll advise you. Tune it at 11." The Gov of VA, the Mayor and the Police Chief of VA Beach did a fine job on their informing people of the shooting there. Impressive is their saying this is an ongoing investigation, people have to be identified, we have no information on the shooter, so there will be no speculation. Even the reporters were respectful--well, except towards the end, there were a couple of questions about whether or not the gun used was legally obtained, names, and the firm reply that there is no information until there is an investigation, no names until people have been identified and relatives advised. I don't watch msm, but suppose there are those who have already proclaimed who the shooter must have been, and surely he was a Trump supporter with guns supplied by the NRA--with a few well-timed comments from Presidential hopefuls and the every-ready-to-speak hoolywood elite!!!

    Hello Mike,
Something I find interesting in the abortion travesty and it’s proponents is their insistence upon calling the baby a fetus. The funny thing is that the original definition of the word means ‘young one’! So each time they use the word they are calling it a young one!! Cambridge English Dictionary. ??.

Mueller KNEW from the start what Russia did. He had the documentation and ignored it. Being not only a coward but a fraud and liar, he went on for two years blinded by hate. This hilary disease, is epidemic TDS is responsible for all this. A genuine disorder created by the the dems. I agree with De Genovo. RM should be disbarred and condemned for his outrageous actions as the special counsel. A job he botched from the start. But he's had a 20+ year track record of failure. Uranium one next. Take him to GITMO.

When I feel guilty for not having empathy for the illegals flooding our southern border, I will reread your statement: "Central America nations already have abundant resources, hardworking people and better climates than some of our northern states. It isn't our responsibility to remake their nations in our image. If they want what we have it's within their power without their citizens having to flood our border illegally." You said it better than I've ever seen it expressed. Sometimes when we help other countries, even go to war to help, aren't we criticized for trying to force democracy on them?

Governor, thank you so much for using the combination of common sense, plain English, and humor (all of which seem in short supply these day's) to report on the foolish policies, opinion's and actions of the loony left in this country and the mindless hate of muslim fanatics. Mel Brooks was once asked why he put nazi's in many of his films. He answered that it was because the best way to denigrate evil is to laugh at it.
    God bless.

I love your commentary, thanks for being true to yourself. Now I would like to know when are we getting back to the business of running the country instead of the “democrats” politically persecuting the President for the crime of having won the election? Because that is the only thing he is guilty of. What happened to accepting the will of “we the people”?

    Mike,
Someone has to talk to Trump. Article on Breitbart today says that Trump is all in for decriminalization of Homosexual behavior. This is outrageous! He is going to lose his entire base now. It must be Jared and Ivanka convincing him to do this. He must think he will get a pass on everything he does. People are sick of his insults and name-calling, twitter feuds and now this. His base won't vote for the Dems.....they just won't vote for anyone in the next election unless Trump changes. Why can't he change?

I am still unclear as to all the Bla Bla about the tariffs. Trump would like to see fair trade the only ones that don't are the traders getting the best trade all the time that's just great if you are getting the best trade what about the smock (US) getting ripped off year after year? Who is getting rich by the worst trade agreements look to see who negotiated the deals that who. Look at the product that come into our country from china knockoffs, lumber that makes people ill why do we trust China with our medicines we get a lot of ingredients for our medicines from China can u say fentanlyn (SP) Why can't we produce our medicine here in the US ? Why risk our health with a country who human rights are as bad as it gets. Let's face it the tech products probably have spy ware in the products maybe the system should be overhauled and make our products here in the US. Till then we better look at the imports from China they already are stealing our It, our health and security is at risk. How far would you trust China? Why are they building those islands do U think China doesn't have enough land mass to build a military base on their soil? Can some one bring Congress out of its Coma?

The stoey regarding the "USS John S. McCain & the tarp" (sounds like a book title)....but a naval maintenance guy called into a popular radio show yesterday and said it is a fairly common practice to cover a Naval vessel's name and/or number with a tarp (or a suitable covering) when work is being done on it near those areas....it is to keep the name/number from being damaged. And now....this report said that the photo originally shown was from May 24th when this vessel was undergoing repairs....and that during the President's visit, the McCain name was clearly
    visible.
I have to commend Mr. Barr for what he said in his recent interview from Alaska....when asked about how he felt regarding his actions possibly damaging his "legacy"..... he said "everyone dies someday", and clearly indicated that doing what he considers to be lawful, correct, and just is vastly more important to him than a flattering "historical legacy". I am reminded of a song that says "God, grant me the serenity to just remember who I am".
