After spending Wednesday afternoon becoming increasingly angry from reading Byron York’s story on the entrapment of retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, I happened to go out to see a special showing of the classic movie musical WHITE CHRISTMAS on a big screen.  The movie, with music by Irving Berlin, was made in 1954, so it reflects that period of time when World War II was still close in people’s memories.  (Irving Berlin had such a long life and career, he wrote music inspired by both world wars.)

To set the scene, it’s been ten years since a beloved general’s retirement, and his men pull off a surprise celebration for him, complete with a big show.  One of the songs opens like this:

What can you do with a general...when he stops being a general?

Oh, what can you do with a general who retires?

They fill his chest with medals while he’s across the foam And they spread the crimson carpet when he comes marching home The next day someone hollers when he comes into view, “Here comes the general,” and they all say, “General who?”

As I heard this, I couldn’t help thinking, “What can you do with a general?  Well, if it’s 2016, and you have the power of the government behind you, you can do just about anything you want with him, even if he’s a three-star general with 33 years of service, including 5 years in combat.  You can wiretap him, unmask his name, illegally leak it to the Washington Post, set him up in ways we’ve just learned so he doesn’t suspect a thing and doesn’t bother with a lawyer, pretend you’re an ally to “relax” him, offer him no chance to clear up any discrepancies at the time, write up your report on him almost seven months later, indict him for lying when even his questioners don’t think he did, cause him to lose his job, ruin his career, bankrupt him, force him to sell his house to pay lawyers, and threaten him with prison.  Maybe in the end, you put him on probation for a few years.

THAT’S what you can do with a general.

And by the way, when the Clinton email “investigation” was going on, there were plenty of false statements from her aides and supporters (and HRC herself), but none of those interviewed were charged with making false statements.  On the contrary,  promises of immunity were passed around like sticks of gum.  And with the variety of illegal behavior she apparently got away with, Hillary may as well have been given immunity herself.  She and her cronies seem to have been issued lifetime “Get Out Of Jail Free” cards, when they really should go directly to jail (after due process, of course) without passing ‘GO’ or collecting $200.

The Flynn story is a shameful and downright tragic example of the judicial double standard that is destroying America.  Suddenly I see the power of the slogan “Make America Great Again” in a way I never have before.  America really has lost something, and we have to get it back.

But if House Democrats have anything to do with it, we won’t.  Rep. Jerry Nadler has already said that all investigations into the mishandling of cases by the FBI will be shut down as soon as they take over in January.  Of course they will; this was Obama's FBI.  And all along, the special counsel has completely ignored the FBI’s kid-glove treatment of Hillary as well as their prosecutorial overreach, even though these other cases involve Russia, too.  Senate Republicans, together with one prosecutor out in Salt Lake City, the judge in the Flynn case (see update below), and, of course, the new attorney general have their work cut out for them.

As for Flynn, Sebastian Gorka, speaking on Wednesday’s HANNITY show, had a great idea for what you can do with a general, at least Gen. Flynn, and it likely will catch fire.  “The President could pardon Gen. Flynn,” Gorka said, “And he’d make a great chief of staff, don’t you think?”

Yes, that’s exactly what I think!  Do it, Mr. President.  Gen. Flynn definitely deserves a pardon, and the job offer makes a lot of sense, too.  No doubt Flynn has what it takes to make an outstanding chief of staff --- though we’d certainly understand if he chooses now to stay as far away from Washington as he can possibly get.  The White House would be fortunate to have him back.

IMPORTANT UPDATES:  Regarding the 302 that, mysteriously, wasn’t finalized until seven months after the interview with Flynn, Rep. Devin Nunes said Wednesday that he and other members of the House Intelligence Committee were briefed –- I believe he meant by then-FBI Director Comey –- “a month or two” after that conversation.  There would have been memos written right after the interview with Flynn, as well as a transcript from the briefing.  So, was anything different from the original notes in the much-later finalized version?  Was anything left out or reworded?  What would be the reason for the change?  Nunes said the judge in the Flynn case should request that transcript (there was probably one from the Senate Intel Committee as well), as well as any original notes.  And they’re going to have to be extremely insistent; Sen. Grassley, Intel Committee chairman, has been asking for the 302s for a year.

Sure enough, late Wednesday evening, the judge in the Flynn case, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan (love him), filed a demand for all the formal records and all other relevant documents detailing Flynn’s interview with FBI agents, agreeing to review them under seal.  These documents must be turned over by 3 p.m. on Friday and may delay Flynn’s sentencing, which at last look was scheduled for this coming Tuesday.  None of the lawyers are commenting.

I’ll link to the Washington Post because they broke the story, but be advised it’s a frustrating read, as it glosses over most of the seriously troubling aspects of the case.  But that's to be expected; we know that where the mainstream media are concerned, this is par for the course.  Besides, we already know the troubling aspects, as we do not rely on the Washington Post to keep us informed.  There will no doubt be some good analyses coming later Thursday.

I am so frustrated with all of this and the takeaway that ALL Americans should have are these points:
Never meet with a government official without an attorney or some other witness present.
If a government official says I am from the government (FBI, CIA or IRS, etc) and I am here to help you, run for the nearest exit.
If you do not escape, ask for an attorney.
Never accept a "deal" with Mueller or anyone else representing the FBI or DOJ. Those do not turn out well.
Ask for the questions they want you to answer so you can research them and avoid "lying" to the agents. Apparently changing one dot or tittle in your answers is considered lying.

I am sick of career politicians posturing and threatening our President.
I am sick of them getting away with a $17 million slush fund to pay for their prostitutes and mistresses.
I am sick of the lies I hear them tell to the Congressional investigative committees.
I am sick of promises not kept.

What can we do to help General Flynn and get Hilary indicted? This nonsense has to stop!

    Hello Mike,
This is to comment on a subject you mentioned about how so many people have nasty things to say about our President, no matter who they are or where they live.
I have been a long time fan of The Great British Baking Show via PBS and now via Netflix.
On Netflix, Season 6 in America, the new presenters Noel and Sandy are introducing the start of the new season, with both of them in a tizzy as Noel tells Sandy he has bad news. Her reply is “it’s not Donald Trump winning that peace prize thing, is it?” Noel replies “it’s worse.” Why shouldn’t President Trump win the Nobel Peace prize for bringing North and South Korea together and I think North Korea and Japan for talks as well? And, President Trump met Kim Jong Un in Korea, where other politicians fear to tread.
Our President has done a great thing in the eyes of my family. I am Caucasian and my late husband was half Caucasian half Korean. Our daughters are 1/4 Korean. They dearly loved their Korean grandmother. She passed away in 2009. My husband was an only child. She was widowed when Terry was killed in 2006 by a hit and run driver who has never been caught. She told a lot of stories about her life but did not like talking about her childhood or her country. She hoped to visit there as she had not been home since 1961. The writers of TGBBS might not care about Korea but many ex-pat Korean people care. I would hope that my continued employment on such a show would not hinge on my saying those words. I wonder how many people would simply say “It’s a baking show. Keep politics out of it unless you want to give Theresa May a go.”

    Hello Mike,
Last evening I read on your daily email, about what’s happening to Michael Flynn and I cried. I feel so helpless. What is happening to America? How can people (Democrats or Demorats as I call them) be such blind, corrupt liars, and how can people believe what they say and actually vote for them? I pray daily for President Trump and his family. I cry when I think of the nastiness I hear no matter what he says or does. The Bible says “do not call good evil, and evil good.” I’ve never joined a protest march, I’m 61, but now I feel I must. But, I fear being physically attacked and my protest would go un-noticed here in So Cal. Or noticed for the wrong reasons. I grew up in the Bay Area. I guess I’ve always been a conservative. I shut down the daily news feed on my laptop several months ago. I mute the TV when negative news is shown about our President. I’m sick of the free pass others get who should be imprisoned. I’m fed up with journalists who no longer use the word “alleged.” I’m disgusted to think that 30 miles west of me, a porn star was given the keys to that city. I wake up in the middle of the night worrying and crying because good people are being railroaded and ruined. America is Animal Farm, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451 rolled into one. What can I do? Is there anything I can do to change things other than vote responsibly? President Trump has my vote again. I’m not such a worrier. My word to describe myself: resilient. I was widowed at 49 and raised two very young daughters alone. They are 19 and 23 and terrific. I do not date. Thank you Mike for all you do for our country. Lisa

It sickens me to see how the Justice Dept and the FBI have misused their power. I shudder to think that we will never get to the bottom of their corruption thanks to the dems who will take office in January. The law has become the lawless. General Flynn has lost more than he can ever regain even if he is pardoned. Is there a possibility that Mueller or Comey or BHO or HRC have someone monitoring your posts? Should I worry that my name and email address are available for their scrutiny. If they can railroad a three star general just imagine what they can do to a Trump supporting ordinary citizen.

It is heartbreaking what is happening to our country, and what is so bad is that there seems nothing that can be done against the democrats, they seemingly get off scott free. I pray Trump gets elected and take back the house. God help us.

We have heard about these stories...Hillary's email, Fusion GPS, FISA court criminal violations, et. al. for two years. Despite all of these revelations, it appears that legal charges will never be the Obama FBI and DOJ. And the commotion on the front pages and news reports, created by a biased media has led to a confused public, since 95% of the messages are slanted against the truth. Propaganda in dictatorial regime historically favors those in power. In the US, the propaganda machine is turned against the administration without consequence. SAD.

Let the tribunals begin. House will lose Dems when they do! Trump will drain the swamp if he can keep the rouge republicans in line. I firmly believe he was put in office by our God for such a time as this. His personality and gifts were given him by God. You and I both know NONE OF THIS WASNT ALREADY KNOWN BY GOD BEFOR DONALD J. TRUMP RAN FOR OFFICE. God will do this through him and bring our nation back to a true belief and reflection of His love for all mankind and continue to send the gospel around the world through this great nation.! YES GOD, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN TO YOUR GLORY!!!

I am just a hard working/retired Republican citizen of these United States. My late Dad and late husband retired from the military and my blood runs red, white, and blue. The current day darkness over my nation's Capitol is frightening. The darkness is having his way with the good Patriots. Pray America, we are in trouble. Pray that God will pull back the darkness and let our light shine once again. My heart is broken for our country.

Excellent article on Gen Flynn. Congress better do the work they have not completed yet, before end of year on the real crimes. Hope the judge finds reason to dismiss the general’s case.

We know undeserving minions make thousands, some even fraudulently ....
    ...
Who will create it, and Mike, will you promote it?
There are Americans who know what to do with an honorable general...

if I remember correctly , the general and former potus were not the best of friends to begin with - soo just wondering if his treatment in this case was somewhat of a 'pay back' for daring to go against his them 'commander in chief' ?!

You cannot survive in the military if you are deceitful and habitually lie. The fact that Flynn not only survived but excelled told me he was diplomatic and proper in all his actions. That's all I needed to know to understand this was a setup. I've just been waiting for the evidence.
