Sobering findings from the General Social Survey: the percentage of Americans who profess no religious beliefs is now slightly larger than either of the two main traditional religious groups in America. “No religion” is now at 23.1%, with Catholics at 23% and Evangelicals at 21.6%. While the atheists are still a small minority compared to all religious beliefs combined, their numbers have been growing ever since the Supreme Court outlawed prayer in schools, setting off an escalating war on religion.

It’s been fought in schools, pop culture, politics, social media and courts, until it's reached the current level of hostility where activists in league with politicians twist laws to try to persecute people for exercising their First Amendment religious freedom rights and brand traditional religious organizations as “hate groups” for refusing to embrace a “progressive” left agenda.

Nancy Pelosi wins an award

By Mike Huckabee

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation announced that this year’s Profile in Courage Award will go to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Her alleged achievements include: “In 2010, amid a public climate of deepening polarization, Pelosi tirelessly spearheaded the passage of the Affordable Care Act” and for her “persistence and determination” in the 2016 election in promoting diversity and rebuilding “the Democratic Party in the image of America.”

I can’t help imaging what John F. Kennedy would say about that if he were alive today. Of course, if he were alive now, there’d probably be no place for him in today’s “diverse” Democratic Party. JFK was a white male; a veteran and military hawk; a Catholic; he cut taxes because he knew that “paradoxically,” too-high rates decrease revenues (or as Democrats later sneeringly called that, “Reaganomics”); and he famously said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” The motto of the current Democrats is “Demand that the government do everything for everyone from cradle to grave, including people who couldn’t even be bothered to respect our laws in coming here.”

The price of gas in California

By Mike Huckabee

Right now, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the US is $2.74.  In California, it’s $3.80, far and away the highest of any state.  That’s largely because California politicians have added so much tax, allegedly to pay for improvements in roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

But would it surprise you to learn that even as the state’s drivers fork over billions in extra taxes, infrastructure has gotten worse because of expensive environmental red tape tying up construction and politicians withholding the money from local governments as blackmail to promote their political agendas?

If you are surprised, then I guess you’ve never been to California. This is why so many Californians are willing to pay through the nose to gas up U-Hauls and move to Texas.

California is spending even more taxpayer money on a court case to try to stop President Trump from building a border wall.  Maybe they should spend it instead on a wall on their own eastern border to keep people from fleeing California.

Interesting news out of Venezuela

By Mike Huckabee

This is interesting: a Venezuelan legislator claims that about 20 tons of gold bars ($840 million worth, or about 20% of the nation’s gold) are being prepared to load onto a Russian 747 in Caracas.

This hasn’t been confirmed, but if true, it would hardly be surprising.  Their dictator might be paying a debt to the Russians or maybe just looting the treasury in advance of fleeing.  Several well-connected Venezuelans have managed to amass billions in foreign banks while the people went without food, medicine or toilet paper, which is par for the course in socialist utopias.

In fact, while the Democratic presidential hopefuls are engaging in a mad brawl to see which one can endorse the most crazy, far-left schemes, the hallmark of leftist governments everywhere is all the people trying to get away from them.  As New York and California have slipped further to the left, their residents have been leaving in droves.  Those who can’t leave are fueling longshot secessionist movements in California, Colorado and Illinois to try to put a state line between them and the loony leftists in Sacramento, Denver and Chicago.  It’s been this way since Marxism was invented: the Berlin Wall wasn’t built to keep people from flooding INTO East Germany.

It has to make you wonder: if leftist policies are so great for “the people,” why do the people flee every place where those policies are put into effect?  It’s no wonder so many of the Democratic Presidential candidates have no plans for dealing with all the people flowing into America illegally.  If they’re elected, the big problem will be all the people flowing out.  Mexico may end up paying to build a wall after all!

Strange story

By Mike Huckabee

A New York City-based play that’s currently casting reportedly put out a since-retracted ad saying that white actors would have to undergo an anti-racism workshop and would be paid less than people of color.  Big problem with that: paying people based on their race is highly illegal under federal laws passed before the Democratic Party went insane.

To be honest, I’m skeptical of this story.  Read the entire thing: the ad sounds as if someone from the Onion or the Babylon Bee set out to write a parody of an ad for an extremely “woke” social justice radical theater piece.  The fact that it came out around April 1 might be significant.  Then again, maybe not.  I didn’t even recount any absurd April Fool’s Day stories this year because it’s become impossible to tell them apart from both the fake news stories that appear every day and the absurd real news stories that appear every day.

Democrats "sprint to the extreme left"

By Mike Huckabee

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer says the Democratic Presidential field is engaged in a “sprint to the extreme left” to try to capture the nomination, but those far-left views will kill them in the general election.  Let’s hope so.

Every time one of them comes up with an insane proposal, another one says, “Hold my bong!” and one-ups it.  Over the weekend, Bernie Sanders pushed the envelope a little further by calling for voting rights for felons.  Not felons who’ve paid their debt to society, as Elizabeth Warren proposed, but passing out ballots to felons who are still in prison (boy, does he know his natural constituency or what?)  Not to give them any ideas, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if “Beto” O’Rourke called for handing out voter registration cards at banks so people could vote while robbing them.  They could call it the “Robber Voter Act.”

In fact, why stop there?  Democrats think everyone has a right to have their voices heard in our elections (unless they’re Republicans in less populous states; then their Electoral votes should be taken away and given to California and New York.)

So I next expect to hear calls for absentee ballots to be sent to everyone on Earth (after all, voting is a human right, and they’re all humans – besides, if illegal immigrants should get a say in choosing our leaders, why shouldn’t people in other countries, simply because they’re not here yet?)

Know who else is human?  Dead people.  They should be allowed to vote for Democrats, too!  Sure, a lot of them already do, buy why not all of them?

While we’re at it, why not let pets vote?  If they’re going to be held in servitude against their wills, then they should have a voice in their “masters’” government!  This likely won’t affect the election outcome much, since I assume that dogs (loyal, hard-working, dedicated to homeland security and police work) would vote Republican and cancel out the Democratic cat vote (lazy, ungrateful, expect other people to take care of them).  Parrots would be the swing vote: they’re very intelligent, so they might be conservatives; but they also repeat any silly thing they’re told, so they might be liberals.  And the parrots who expect the world to give them a cracker are definitely “progressives.”

Quotes from American History

"I had a better year than he did (When informed that the $80,000 dollar salary he received in 1930 was $5,000 more that that of President Hoover)."

- Babe Ruth

Excellent op-ed

By Mike Huckabee

Excellent op-ed by retired journalist and newspaper editor Jim Tharpe about how the sexism, racism and misleading of donors for cash inside the Southern Poverty Law Center are not news to some journalists like him.  He also calls for a federal investigation of the SPLC by the Justice Department.

Two very interesting points: he notes that his paper in Montgomery wrote a Pulitzer-nominated expose of the SPLC back in 1994 that exposed these same issues.  The SPLC refused to talk to them, denied it all, and apparently kept right on doing it for another 25 years…and the rest of the media just kept on treating them like a respectable civil rights organization.

Tharpe also scoffs at the SPLC’s claim that it’s bringing in “well-regarded lawyer Tina Tchen to conduct an investigation.”  If you want to know why it would be laughable to let them wiggle off the hook by “investigating” themselves, try Googling “Tina Tchen” and “Jussie Smollett” and see what kind of justice pops up.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is leaving

By Mike Huckabee

In a surprise turn, President Trump announced Sunday that Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving after 16 months in that position. He has chosen US Customs and Border Protection Commission Kevin McAleenan to replace her.

Nielsen, whose background is in cybersecurity, has been increasingly frustrated by other departments’ refusal to help deal with the illegal immigrant crisis on the border. It was also reported that Trump was frustrated with her resistance to some of his stricter measures. He sees McAleenan more as the “toughest cop on the block” type that he’s looking for.

We normally wait for movies until we can rent them and that's the case with VICE. We watched it last night and came away feeling like it was more of an attack on Republicans along with Chaney. We are Republicans and wondered about the truthfulness of this movie?? Thank you.
