##Appellation##,

For years, skeptics of gun control groups who believed the real goal was gun confiscation and repealing the Second Amendment were laughed off as they were espousing the Flat Earth Theory. Why, it was ridiculous to suggest that anyone would advocate revoking an enumerated right and confiscating legally-owned weapons of law-abiding Americans! Until the popular culture moved far enough left to drop the mask and start doing it openly.

And now, we have protest mobs and even a former Supreme Court Justice arguing that scratching a line through the Second Amendment would somehow revoke a God-given (not government-given) human right. And on Monday, the village board of Deerfield, Illinois, voted unanimously to ban a long list of currently legal rifles that fall under the nebulous term, “assault weapons.” Not just to ban the future sale of such guns, but to confiscate legally-purchased firearms currently owned by law-abiding citizens.

Jobs, jobs, jobs

By Mike Huckabee

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that non-farm payrolls rose by 103,000 in March. That’s a big drop in new jobs from the huge surge in February, and well below Wall Street estimates of 193,000. But there are several positives that aren’t obvious at first glance.

First, February job growth was revised upward from 313,000 to 326,000. Over the past three months, monthly job creation has averaged 202,000, or about twice what’s needed to keep up with population growth. Plus wages continued to rise. With unemployment holding steady at 4.1%, some economists say we’re so close to full employment that we should expect to see the number of new hires tapering off. And some of the forces spooking the economy, like fears of a trade war with China or an interest rate hike, haven’t happened yet, and let’s hope won’t happen.

Finally, the most important thing to remember: we must be doing something right again if we’re feeling disappointed that ONLY 103,000 jobs were created in one month. Last March’s number was 73,000.

National Guard to the border

By Mike Huckabee

Thursday at the Pentagon, a spokesman for Defense Secretary James Mattis made it clear that Mattis agrees with President Trump that border security is a national security issue, and he will carry out Trump’s orders to deploy National Guard troops along the border to support the Border Patrol.

Naturally, Trump’s critics are decrying the move as an outrageous and unprecedented militarization of the border. I suppose they mean it’s totally unlike the time in 2006 when George W. Bush deployed 6,000 National Guard troops to support the Border Patrol, or the time in 2010 that Barack Obama sent 1200 National Guard troops to support the Border Patrol. Actually, there’s nothing unprecedented about this, especially the part where Trump’s critics claim that something he did that other Presidents also did is unprecedented. That seems to happen every day.

Just bear in mind that some of the people who think that keeping unvetted invaders from streaming across the border is not a national security issue were also among those who thought that letting men use women’s bathrooms was a civil rights issue, and forcing nuns to pay for abortion drugs was an insurance issue, and making your doctor ask whether you own a gun was a mental health issue, and of course, that enforcing existing laws to deport criminal illegal aliens was an immigration issue. To paraphrase “The Princess Bride,” I do not think these words mean what these people think they mean.

Planned Parenthood fined by FEC

By Mike Huckabee

A political advocacy branch of Wisconsin Planned Parenthood is being fined by the Federal Election Commission for failing to accurately report $116,898 in donations to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. The group chalks it up to a filing mistake, noting it was made in August but not reported until October. They didn’t address the 500-pound gorilla in the room, which is why an alleged women’s health services provider that receives nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer money every year was donating over a hundred grand to a Democratic politician in the first place. That might also be a good question to ponder for Congressional Republicans who just voted, as part of the massive Omnibus spending bill, to keep funding an organization that seems to have plenty of money to bankroll their political opposition.

"Mostly false"

By Mike Huckabee

In other Planned Parenthood news, the pro-life Radiance Foundation looked at the organization’s claim it experienced a “surge” in the number of patients served after the passage of Obamacare. Turns out PP’s own annual report shows the number of patients served each year actually dropped by 600,000.

The Radiance Foundation also examined a claim by the left-leaning “fact-check” group Politifact that it was “mostly false” for a Texas political candidate to call abortion “the #1 killer of African-Americans.” Here’s the math, according to figures from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, which was founded by a former PP president:

The number of abortions in the US in 2014 was 926,200, and 28% were on African-American mothers, meaning the number of African-American babies killed in the womb was 259,336.

Total number of African-Americans killed that year from the 15 leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, accidents, drugs, homicide, etc.) combined: 246,122.

Conclusion: I rate Politifact’s use of the term “fact-checker” to describe what they do as “mostly false.”
