California Tragedy

We now know more about the deadly shooting in a Thousand Oaks, California, bar. The shooter has been identified as a highly-decorated ex-Marine who served in Afghanistan. He shot himself when police arrived (as is my policy, I do not identify people who become famous for killing other people.) He was known to have suffered from PTSD and had been acting irate and irrational. Police visited the home he shared with his mother in April when he was reported to be screaming and throwing things around the house.

Neighbors say his mother was terrified of him and feared he was going to harm himself or others. But once again, in a story that’s become all too common in mass shooting cases, police mental health “experts” decided he wasn’t a danger and cleared him rather than committing him, which would have given him a record that would've blocked him from obtaining weapons. This will not stop people from demanding more gun laws to stop such shootings, even though the laws that already exist to stop them are repeatedly ignored.

There’s much more on this tragic and infuriating story at this link, including President Trump’s response and information about Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus who died heroically when he was the first to answer the call. He saved countless lives when he entered the bar alone and engaged the shooter, drawing his fire away from the unarmed patrons. I hope you’ll join me in saying prayers for him and for all the victims and their families.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Last night, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, slipped and fell at her office. After suffering pain at home, she was taken to a hospital where it was discovered that she had fractured three ribs. The Rev. Franklin Graham called for all Americans to pray for her, and I join him in that. The health of a fellow human being is more important than partisan political issues, which should always take a backseat to simple human decency, a fact that has been ignored far too often in recent years.

But there’s no question that the accident does have a partisan political element, as you can see by the panicked reaction on the left, which I suspect is not entirely motivated by compassion. The news of Justice Ginsburg’s hospitalization sparked more pants-wetting than a kiddie matinee showing of “Halloween.” There are reports of liberals offering to donate ribs or internal organs if it will keep her from retiring and being replaced by President Trump. I’m sure some of them would donate their entire bodies if it were possible. But I doubt that any of those people could offer brains for transplant, for obvious reasons.

This Deserves National Attention

One local election story that deserves national attention: Dan Crenshaw, the Navy SEAL whose loss of an eye in an I.E.D. explosion in Afghanistan was mocked on “Saturday Night Live,” won his race for Congress in Texas by a lopsided 53-44%. He probably would have won anyway, but it’s pleasing to think that the liberals at “SNL” might have had anything to do with helping to create a landslide win for a Republican military veteran. In his victory speech, Crenshaw brushed off the media flurry, noting that Navy SEALS “really don’t get offended,” but he added that “we also like it when comedians are actually funny. Let’s get back to being funny.”

I like to think that if that had been his entire platform, he would have won by 100%.

Something that did not happen

The least-covered but most important story of the day after the election was something that did NOT happen. Republicans lost the House. They were disappointed. They were fearful for the future of the nation. They were worried that angry, partisan nuts are going to wildly abuse government power and do actual harm to the nation, the economy and the Constitution. And what did they do?

They accepted the will of the people and started planning to win the next election.

What did they NOT do? They did not gather at the homes of Democrats to yell threats at their families. They did not take to the Internet with photos of themselves holding up bloody replica heads of Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters. They did not try to blame Russia or cry that it was “unfair” or file countless frivolous lawsuits to overturn the results of the election. They did not even put on hats that resemble male genitalia and stand around screaming at the sky.

In other words, they behaved like sane adults. I would hope that sends a message to the electorate for the next election.

One woman's view: The indoctrination of women --- a quick follow-up

By Laura Ainsworth, Staff writer

As a follow-up to my commentary on the indoctrination of women by the fashion world, here’s an insightful column by D. C. McAllister, “What’s Behind College-Educated, Suburban Women Flipping to Democrats.”  In it, she refers to some of the same things I outlined in more detail:  “The rhetoric of Trump as sexual deviant-in-chief filled the pages of women’s magazines.  Protests, p--- hats, celebrities wailing about the dehumanization of women even as they objectified themselves rained down on female voters, enlivening their allegiance to equality, even when it’s not actually being threatened.”

She talks about how much these women detest Trump’s personal style.  Understood.  But I would add that we need to realize we're not voting for Boyfriend-in-Chief.  On his own personal issues, he's Melania's problem.  (I find it so ironic that most of these same women voted for Bill Clinton and, later, for Hillary.  But popular culture never tore them down in the relentless way it attacks Trump.)  As McAllister puts it, “Their feelings about Trump negated any objective judgment of his job performance or recognition that his policies have benefited them greatly, including a strong economy and greater security for our nation.  Emotionalism won the day.”

To conservative women in particular, “those who don’t vote by feelings and unfounded fears,” she has a message:  We have to step up.  “It falls on our shoulders to educate our suburban sisters about the role of government in our lives, the dangers of government-run health care, and the lies of feminism regarding ‘inequality’ in America.”

I hope all rational, conservative women will take this as a call to action.

I am a psychotherapist in CA. I work with veterans with PTSD. Psychology is not a perfect science, at least not to the point of predicting behavior. The problem with someone like the bar shooter is that intervention is subjective. The police have a very limited class on mental illness. The team called in to assess, who had more education, failed to see the need to 5150 him, bearing in mind that taking someone’s rights away is a big deal in this country. In addition, there is an extreme shortage of beds in the hospitals that accept patients like him. I have called police to transport suicidal clients and they have done their own assessments and refused. Patients generally know what NOT to say, so they are not locked up. However, obviously this man should have been. But 72 hours is not a cure, just a bandaid.

How would you begin to solve the election problem in places like Florida? We are tired of hearing stats like 7 out of 5 people in Florida voted Democratic! ??

I agree with David Colonna that the Democratic Party has come under Satan’s control & has become very amoral, immoral, deceptive, lawless & evil. No Christian can vote for a Democrat under these circumstances & because what they stand for is totally against the revealed Will of God as written in the Bible – e.g. aborting babies at any stage breaking 6th Commandment (Exodus 20:13; Leviticus 19:21); hetero-sexual marriage & family (Leviticus 19:22-23); extortion (through high taxation, tariffs, levies, etc.); transgender promotion (God created humans, animals, even plants male & female (Genesis 1:27), although there are plants having both male/female “structures” – on the same plant either in separate flowers or in the same flower with the male & female structures positioned in such a way making it easier for pollination! the genes don’t lie!!); free-bees are not free-bees as someone has to pay for it (taxpayers!) when God had declared: if you don’t work, you don’t eat! (2 Thessalonians 3:6-15); only thing He declared to be free is Salvation/ Eternal Life in Christ Jesus – for Adonai Yeshua paid the price with His Life’s blood!; deceptions, lies, (turning truth into lies & vice versa! Isaiah 5:20-23; Micah 3:2); bearing false witness (one example: Judge/Justice Kavanaugh) & stealing peoples good name character – breaking 9th 6th & 8th Commandments (Exodus 20:13,15,16). I can go on about national boundaries (Acts 17:24,26; Deuteronomy 32:8-9), lies about healthcare, Medicare, Tax, etc. but time & space won’t permit.

    Mike,
It's a pleasure reading your "Editions" and getting some real news instead of the fake news the liberal media bombards us with. Keep up the good work as a voice of truth, reasonableness, and sanity in a crazy world. May our gracious Lord richly bless you, and may God bless America.

The hypocrisy of the Left is substantial. All the judiciary committee senators need to be asked if they believe all Bill Clinton’s accusers.

Prayers for Justice Gingsberg. Broken bones at any age is painful, but as one ages, healing takes longer. As for the goofballs (do they have any idea what they are saying?) to suggest that donating ribs has anything to do with the healing of the ribs SHE already has, or the donation of internal organs when there is no mention of damage to HER internal organs shows their ignorance in anything medical. BTW, do any of them have a clue as to how dangerous major operations for a person her age would be? Dangerous at any age, but more so in the elderly. That would be one way for her to be removed from the bench, not keep her one it.

I saw a meme of a quiet city street--showing how conservatives revolted and rioted when the democrats took the house. What I don't get is--what the heck are liberal paid rioting protesters going to the streets (or at least threatening to) for? I guess maybe because the Republicans retained the senate instead of the major "blue wave" the financial backers paid through the nose for. And maybe even that the "blue wave" in the house wasn't major at all. And now there is some democrat that lost a governor race (Adams?) who refuses to acknowledge the loss. smh. And there are those who now want Bozo whats-his-name in Texas to run for President. Maybe he didn't spend all the money in political donations he refused to share with other democrats and could apply that to his campaign. Unless, of course, he throws it all at the illegal immigration cause.

It seems that the legislator has more important things to legislate than rewriting unenforced laws. One example was the inordinate waste of their time and our tax dollars to rewrite DUI laws when, if those on the books had actually been enforced, there would have been no need to rewrite the laws (that are basically the same, but they could say they were working, when any staffer could have done what they did--who knows maybe staffers did all the work while the congressmen sat around smoking (they hadn't written no-smoking laws then) and joking. Same with immigration--give actually enforcing laws on the books and ignored pretty much since they were written, a chance to work!! Back off on ICE and border patrol and let them do the jobs according to the law. A pox on all governors, mayors and congresspeople who encourage them to break the law. Those people actually should be charged with obstruction of justice, aiding and abetting criminals (even those without criminal backgrounds in their country are now criminals if the cross the border illegally.)

Maxine Waters is going to be the head of the financial committee. She is going to destroy what Trump has tried to fix. There will be more homelessness, higher taxes and make homes more un affordable.....just like Obamacare.

I know we should pray for RBG, but can we pray that she retires soon as well? It's like the prayer for the opposing team's quarterback that is shellacking your team.....please hurt him just enough (perhaps a sprained ankle) to leave the game (of course to return next week). If she can't stay awake during court hearings, please don't hang around until you're 90. We won't know if you're asleep or have assumed room temperature.

Women are being played, especially the college through 40's group who think any woman (regardless of qualifications, behavior, ideology) should be voted in. The new crew of women elected to the House is a disgrace. Hard to believe any thinking person could vote for them.

I would like to hear a little about Jim Acosa's confrontation with President Trump. He has said your daughter was a liar on her comments about the incident and that she doctored the tapes of him pushing the aide that tried to get the microphone from him.

Keep up the good work. I always enjoy your commentary!

Wouldn't it be great if the Democrats would put all of their negative energy into positive thinking about working together for making our nation the best we can be? United we stand; divided we fall! Don't they have children and grandchildren to be good role models for by being responsible grown-ups? If they'd "straighten up and fly right" it might even help to stop some of this horrible senseless attacks of shootings. After all, mentally ill people need to have a sense of stability in their lives. May the Lord bless and have mercy on our country and our leaders in this broken sick world we live in today.

I am a woman who likes President Trump's style. He is honest and most women cannot stand honesty. Seeing your daughter and admiring her greatly, I would say she likes his style. Just so you know where I am coming from - I attend an Assembly of God Church. I am a born again committed Christian to my Lord Jesus Christ and I am ULTRA Conservative. I will vote for President Trump in 2020 although for the life of me I don't know why he wants to run. Glad he is but don't know why. Blessings, Sandy

Thoroughly enjoy your writings and comments - and have yet to disagree with anything you post. However, I wish to correct what I perceive ass an error. In talking about the California shooter, you described him as "highly decorated". That is inaccurate - the reports I read indicate he was no where near "highly decorated". Realizing that is subjective - but ask a veteran.

your comment about not being able to donate a brain to RBG cracked me up! Thanks I needed a good laugh. Of course the mentally ill don't have a MIND to donate and that is what she needs and they need. I don't know the treatment for TDS but it needs to be thought up. Two separate people, both extremely knowledgeable, have made it very clear that liberalism is a mental disorder. The rest of us who are sane need to take that into account. But we need to be prepared to defend ourselves from this lunacy which is the left. By the way, Kerosene needs to be in jail for inciting to riot and her campaign violations which apparently are numerous. That would be one less dem headache

This conservative, educated, lively senior citizen has accepted the call to action. I love going to the beauty salon each week and engaging the young women there. My comments remind them of President Trump. I smile and say when your my age and have lived as long as I have you realize a man like Trump is the least of your problems. Then I say take a look at yourself in the mirror; young women in my generation didn't dress like Jezebel; then comes my teaching and explaining. Then I explain how they are a target group for the advertiser and that media and the pop culture are really controlling their lives. It is time for women to show they can think for themselves and not follow the crowd. Be a force for good and stop acting like the spoiled entitled brats you think you are I go back and forth with them but now they are understanding where I am coming from. When I leave there each week, I feel I have them thinking at least. What has surprised me is that one girl recently confided in me, she didn't have a good role model growing up and she's looking for one. It was quite a story.
One thing Mike we should all consider is that with the break down in the family, lack of religious training and morality, we need God's help to get us through the rough times ahead. I pray a lot and speak up when I feel the Spirit's prompting.
