A new poll on free speech and tolerance by the Cato Institute confirmed what has long been obvious: political correctness is strangling free speech. The poll found that 71% of Americans believe that intolerant PC “tolerance” enforcers have silenced important discussions that our society needs to have.

The survey revealed a lot of contradiction in people’s beliefs about the First Amendment. For instance, 51% of staunch liberals think it’s “morally acceptable” to punch Nazis; 51% of Democrats think there should be laws forcing Americans to use transgender people’s preferred pronouns; and on the other side, 53% of Republicans think that people who burn the flag should be stripped of their American citizenship.

Overall, 58% of Americans said they don’t feel that they can safely express their own political beliefs anymore. Interestingly, 53% of Democrats don’t feel the need to self-censor, but 75% of Republicans and 58% of Independents do. That should give you a clue as to where the real censors now lurk.

The good news: two-thirds of Americans think colleges aren’t doing enough to teach students about free speech, and the same number think colleges should expose students to all kinds of views, even those they find offensive. The bad news: One-third of Americans don’t believe that.

I refuse to take polls anymore as they are so inaccurate. I believe there is more than "free speech" at stake at this time. My main concern is corruption in D.C. and the inability of the present government to investigate. POTUS has his hands tied, Sessions is spineless, Rosenstein is a crook as is Mueller, Comey, Lynch, Obama, HC and DWS. NOTHING is EVER investigated. The Oversight Committee is a JOKE, DOJ is a JOKE, FBI is a JOKE, Mueller's investigation is a JOKE and the Dems remain in control and corruption is rampant. POTUS will NOT be reelected due to the corruption that is left unchecked, I believe this and it breaks my heart. We had a chance, but no longer....these are NOT my thoughts only.

Hmmm....... were the people polled given lessons on What Free Speech really means and the actual Amendment ? It seems too many people do not know . Free speech was really intended to allow the citizens to announce and freely discuss the real crimes of the government without fear of being imprisoned for treason

Didn't all the polls before last Presidential election show that Hillary would be elected? Just shows polls really mean nothing at all.

Like all polls that are done I am sure this one did the same thing. Ask questions with yes or no answers and no other option. Pose questions that cannot be answered and not be allowed to skip those questions. It is all geared to get a predetermined outcome, not to get a real sense of what people think.

This failure to understand Constitutional rights falls directly on the educational system in this nation. It's time to eject liberal lies, rewritten history, and bring back a focus on *education* in education.

Do you remember about 40 years ago when the American Nazis wanted to march in Skokie, IL, where many Jewish survivors of the holocaust resided? The ACLU - never one of my favorites - defended their right to march. They said, "Freedom of speech must be defended even when the beneficiaries of that defense are far from admirable individuals." How far we've come - and not in a good way.

It's a good thing that 2/3rds of us DO believe in free speech.

You want to straighten up the NFL. Boycott all companies who advertise with them. Since they agree with the NFL about America is a bad place.
