Kudos to Vice President Pence

October 9, 2017

A big salute to Vice President Mike Pence, who walked out of a 49ers/Colts game Sunday after several San Francisco players once again “took a knee” during the National Anthem. He explained this way: “I left today’s Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag or our National Anthem.”

But one of Colin Kaepernick’s earliest and biggest protest supporters, 49ers safety Eric Reid, expressed anger at Pence, accusing him of coming to the game because he knew one team would be protesting, just so he could walk out as a PR stunt. Reid accused Pence of “systematic oppression.”

Really? That's your idea of oppression, that someone didn't like what you did and walked out? Here’s an alternate explanation: Maybe Pence came for the Colts, since he’s the former Governor of Indiana. And maybe when he walked out, he was using his knees to make a statement about his deeply-held beliefs. Sound familiar? By the way, he actually has the right to do that, because he doesn’t work for the NFL and is therefore not subject to the employee code of conduct that requires standing at attention during the National Anthem. If Mr. Reid thinks it's "oppression" when NFL fans leave in disgust, then he must be feeling really oppressed these days. Although so far, not oppressed enough to give up his $8.4 million contract and go take a knee at home.

Harold Maddox and Shirley Cross stated my sentiments completely. All employers require that personal beliefs be left out of the work place so this should apply to employees of the NFL. They are free to express their personal beliefs on their own time, not during work or during work based events. Freedom also means if you don't like it here and don't want to support America and the values our government is based on then you don't need to get paid from the very people in America that you don't support and I encourage you find another country to live in. I have a feeling there is going to be a decrease in sales for tickets for NFL events if this keeps up.

Rather than watch the pro football teams on Sunday, visit the local veterans hospital. I am sure they would enjoy the visit. If there isn’t one close by, then take your children or grandchildren to a park. My husband and I are not watching the games and on SuperBowl Sunday, we will not be watching. ????????????

Mike we ( my husband Fred ) are so proud of you. You did what you should have done at that game. Ignore what they are saying about you coming on purpose because you knew they would do that and would walk out for attention. Even if that were true people need to know we don't tolerate this in the United States of America. I cannot believe that this issue they claim is why they will not salute the flag is because of conflict with the police. If it is there has to be a better way than belittling our Flag. You either love America or get out. There are plenty of places to go but no where that you get the freedoms that our people fought and died to give to them. We don't want you here if you don't love and support America.
