Buyers' Remorse Sets In

January 29, 2021

If you read this newsletter, you’ll know I haven’t exactly been supportive of President Biden’s first days in office, and his flurry of divisive, job-killing, security-destroying, freedom-crushing, government-bloating, economy-wrecking executive orders (to put it mildly.)

"Climate Day"

January 29, 2021

Wednesday was “Climate Day” at the White House (isn’t it “climate day” everywhere every day?), and President Biden once again attempted to reanimate the dead policies of the Obama years. He claimed Americans shouldn’t worry about all the jobs his anti-energy policies will kill because they’ll all get good new “green jobs,” doing things like building solar panels (ahem – “Solyndra”) and charging stations for all those electric government vehicles that will be powered by…well, he’ll get back to us later on that.

I expect clueless blather and job-killing policies from Biden. But if we’re going to address climate change, we have to talk about the big ball of hot gas that’s above us all. I refer, of course, to John Kerry.

Kerry has become legendary for his arrogance, pomposity, condescension and unwarranted sense of moral superiority, and all those repellent traits were on full display in his recent comments about the furious union workers who were abruptly left unemployed by Biden’s groundless halt to the Keystone Pipeline project.

Kerry, clueless as ever about how most Americans actually make a living, lectured those poor deluded peasants, “What President Biden wants to do is make sure that those folks have better choices, that they have alternatives, that they can be the people who go to work to make the solar panels” (because who wouldn’t be grateful to trade their current pipe-fitting job for a politician’s promise of a job making solar panels sometime in the vague future?)

Kerry, as always, went on: “That is going to be a particular focus of the ‘Build Back Better’ agenda, and I think that, unfortunately, workers have been fed a false narrative, no surprise, for the past few years. They’ve been fed the notion somehow that dealing with climate is going to be at their expense. No, it’s not.”

News flash, John: They just lost the jobs that they depended on to feed their families, so yes, it’s already at their expense. Of course, their small minds can’t possibly comprehend the vast, planet-controlling vision of their betters, so he has to explain to them that they haven’t really been harmed, just because they’ve been unexpectedly thrown out of work for no good reason.

Maybe he could give them some advice on making better career choices, like “Marry an heiress,” then “Divorce her and marry a richer one.”

Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton summed up the predictable outrage over Kerry’s oblivious arrogance well: “John Kerry—who flies in private jets, owned a 76-foot yacht and several mansions—has the carbon footprint of a small nation. Yet he tells energy workers to ‘make solar panels’ when the Biden administration kills their jobs.” I’m surprised Kerry didn’t suggest that they simply eat cake until those solar panel jobs become available.

The war on free speech rights just got ramped up another notch Wednesday with news that social media influencer/Twitter troll Douglass Mackey, aka Ricky Vaughn, has been arrested on federal charges for sharing memes on Twitter in 2016. I’ll wait while you go back and read that again to make sure your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you.

Mackey is charged under a seldom-used law called “conspiracy to violate rights” because he allegedly used his popular social media site to share memes that told people to vote for Hillary Clinton by sending a text to a particular number. FYI: you can’t vote by text. You might assume that anyone would know this, since the memes were widely regarded as a joke and shared by thousands of other social media users. But Mackey is facing up to 10 years in prison for sharing them. Who knows how many others might face the same selective prosecution?

I wonder if everyone who ever told the old joke about advising supporters of legalized pot to be sure and turn out to vote on the first Wednesday in November is now going to be hit with federal charges for depriving them of their rights? Or if anyone who ever shared a hilarious satirical story from the Babylon Bee will be imprisoned for spreading “disinformation”?

Two details of this story that are worth noting: you can’t blame leftists entirely, since the case was put together under the Trump Administration by acting US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Seth DeCharme, a Bill Barr appointee. Also, an MIT ranking of the most important social media influencers of the 2016 election ranked Mackey (whom I’ve never heard of before) at #107, higher than NBC News, Stephen Colbert or Newt Gingrich. In my opinion, whether Americans are actually getting their information about elections from Twitter trolls who tell them to vote by text or from Stephen Colbert, either should only lead to an indictment of our schools’ civics education.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News asked what this means for the First Amendment, and he said it means it’s been suspended if “you can be arrested for saying the ‘wrong’ things.”

As the article at the link notes, we all know that Google, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube blatantly conspired to influence the last election, to boost the Biden vote and suppress the Trump vote. I demand that the DOJ immediately arrest their CEOs on federal charges that can bring up to 10 years in prison.

And here’s another frontal assault on the First Amendment: Former Trump White House Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro reports that he’s been banned from Twitter simply because of who he is, what he believes and what he might say. It can’t be because of anything he’s actually said lately, since he hasn’t even tweeted anything since January 14th.

One story that’s getting lost in the week’s giant steaming shovelful of...well, news...is the information being mined from FBI documents that President Trump declassified almost literally on his way out the door.

Investigative reporter John Solomon has been quietly going through this material, and you can keep up by following his work on his website JUST THE NEWS.

Remember when Andrew McCabe, then acting director of the FBI, decided to open a formal investigation into President Trump on the grounds that Trump’s firing of Director James Comey might have been an act of obstruction, done to thwart the (phony) “Russia” investigation? (Come to think of it, remember how virtually everything Trump did, even if it was well within his authority as President, was labeled “obstruction”?) And remember how “shocked, shocked!” Democrats were that Trump would dare fire Comey and how they all, as if on cue, started demanding the appointment of a special counsel?

Well, we now have contemporaneous notes from a May 2017 meeting at which then-deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was informed of McCabe’s decision to formally investigate Trump. There are notes from from both McCabe and Lisa Page.

There’s something intriguing in Page’s notes. She wrote that in the meeting, Rosenstein expressed outrage that Comey had been fired, but she added a comment that this rage seemed odd to her, as Rosenstein had already revealed to FBI officials, presumably including her, that he and then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions had been contemplating firing Comey for months, since January. She apparently wondered what the big deal was about Trump firing Comey if the DOJ was getting ready to fire him anyway. (If there was one thing Democrats and Republicans generally agreed on, it was that James Comey deserved to be canned.)

McCabe’s notes are consistent. Five days later, in notes from a different meeting, he quoted Rosenstein as saying the firing of Comey had been in the works for months and WAS NOT REALLY DRIVEN BY THE RUSSIA PROBE. (Emphasis mine --- obviously, the "Russia" thing was just a pretense.)

Page’s notes are also consistent with Rosenstein’s Senate testimony that he and Sessions wanted to fire Comey in January 2017. But what we know now is that McCabe and others at the Bureau KNEW this even as they opened the investigation against Trump for doing the very thing their superiors at the DOJ had been talking about doing for months –- firing Comey!

If the investigation of Trump seemed like a sham before, this shows it to have been even more of one. “Most supervisors I know wouldn’t open that case with such stunning exculpatory information,” said Jeffrey Danik, a decorated 28-year veteran FBI supervisory agent who retired in 2015. “It’s more than flawed; it’s its own standalone abuse. You have exculpatory information, and you are ignoring it.”

Can you say “witch hunt”?

Something else: Remember when McCabe testified before Congress that Rosenstein offered to wear a wire and surreptitiously record President Trump as part of a plot to invoke the 25th Amendment? Now we have McCabe’s own notes about that. He records this exchange factually and appears to take the suggestion seriously, not expressing any interpretation that Rosenstein might be joking, as Rosenstein later claimed he was.

"As our conversation continued,” McCabe wrote contemporaneously in May of 2017, “the DAG [deputy Attorney General Rosenstein] proposed that he could potentially wear a recording device into the Oval Office to collect additional information on the President’s true intentions. He said he thought this might be possible because he was not searched when he entered the White House. I told him that I would discuss the opportunity with my investigative team and get back to him.”

Do you get the impression from this that anyone is kidding? Neither do I. No, this is just more indication that President Trump has been right all along about what was being done to him by the FBI. And Solomon has merely scratched the surface of what we’re going to learn.

Filibuster Update

January 28, 2021

Update on the Democrats’ apparently failed push to eliminate the Senate filibuster: With two moderate Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, saying they absolutely won’t support it, the fear that a radical left agenda will be forced onto America with 51 votes seems dead. But just to be clear, Republican leader Mitch McConnell warned Democrat leaders that if they ever do pass that “nuclear option,” he would unleash a “scorched earth, post-nuclear nightmare” on them.

He reminded them it takes 51 votes to produce a quorum, and the Vice President doesn’t count. The 50 Republicans would release immediate chaos, locking down the Senate so that nothing moves, and the Democrats wouldn’t be able to scrape up 51 votes to end it. He said things would happen either "in the hardest possible way or not at all," and Democrats could just block out the next two years on their calendars, because they would be there all the time.

He reminded Sen. Chuck Schumer that acting as the majority when you don’t actually have a majority requires “collegiality and consent.”

Or to sum it up succinctly: Play nice or else.

Surprise, Surprise: The Washington Post announced that now that Joe Biden is in, they will no longer be “fact-checking” everything the President says. They figure Biden will be like Obama and never lie (Ahem – “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” “Obamacare will save you $2500 a year,” etc. etc. etc.)

Of course, we’ve all learned how the media define “lies” from a Republican: any opinion they disagree with, any joke at their expense, any deliberate exaggeration to make a point, any figure of speech they can take literally, and any statement of objective fact that they can find a way to nitpick or come up with an alternative interpretation.

But that’s okay if they don’t want to chronicle all the lies Biden tells (he’ll govern as a unifying moderate, he won’t ban fracking, nobody who makes less than $400,000 a year will pay a penny more in taxes, etc. etc. etc.) We’ll just keep doing it for them.

Since it’s both exhausting and depressing to keep up with all of President Biden’s executive orders and tabulate all the damage he’s doing to America in record time, I’m grateful to the Epoch Times for offering this round-up of just the destruction being done to national and border security and public safety under the guise of “immigration reform.” Say, Biden voters who thought you were getting a “moderate,” is THIS what you voted for?

Seton Motley at RedState.com has also compiled quite a collection of headlines and links to illustrate the massive explosion of government interference and regulations that Biden is unleashing, the hollowness of his claim to want “unity and bipartisanship,” and the damage he’s already causing. As Motley notes, Biden stole Trump’s “Buy American” slogan, but he’s making it impossible for anything to be made in America.

Fortunately, Republicans are already starting to recognize that the left has declared war on them and everything that makes America the exceptional nation they refuse to admit it is, and as I suggested, they’re turning to the courts to block Biden EO’s the same way Democrats tied up Trump’s agenda for four years.

For instance, Biden ordered an immediate halt to all deportations of criminal illegal immigrants for 100 days. And not just to halt deportations, but states were ordered to release immediately all illegal immigrants who were in custody awaiting deportation.

But Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has already filed a lawsuit that convinced a federal judge to put a nationwide stay on Biden’s order. Paxton argued that the order is unconstitutional and that Biden has no power to override Congressionally-passed immigration laws. The order also violates a legal agreement between the DHS and the state of Texas that requires Texas to be consulted prior to any actions which would “reduce, redirect, reprioritize, relax, or in any way modify immigration enforcement” agreements with the department.

The judge also agreed with Paxton that Biden’s order to release illegal immigrant criminals creates a threat of injury to Texas that outweighs any potential harm to the defendants and the public interest.

I like Paxton’s summation of the ruling: “Within 6 days of Biden’s inauguration, Texas has HALTED his illegal deportation freeze. *This* was a seditious left-wing insurrection. And my team and I stopped it.”

As they say in Texas, “It ain’t bragging if you can do it.” Now, let’s see a lot more attorneys general, legislatures and conservative legal organizations start doing it. Remember: Trump appointed a lot of judges, so be just like the left and do your judge shopping judiciously.

PS - Looks as if the RNC is getting with the program...

And note to Arizona: You might want to join that Texas lawsuit. Or file your own, and really tie ‘em up.

Yesterday, we played “remember when” with the FBI’s opening of their investigation into Trump, supposedly on allegations of “obstruction justice” for firing Director James Comey. As newly declassified documents show, the FBI knew when they opened that investigation that top officials at the DOJ had already been talking about firing Comey for months. (Who DIDN’T want to fire Comey?) And this had nothing to do with “Russia Russia Russia.”

Here's another installment from the documents declassified by Trump, this time about Michael Flynn. As you'll see, the Flynn story is quite consistent with what the FBI and other government agencies appear to have in store for anyone who dares to criticize the Biden administration or pose any challenge to its power. Let’s take a look at what Chuck Ross at the DAILY CALLER has found.

Remember when Michael Flynn was plagued with rumors that he'd been having an affair with a Russian woman named Svetlana Lokhova, a researcher at the University of Cambridge? Reports started surfacing in March of 2017, in THE WALL STREET JOURNAL and THE GUARDIAN, and Christopher Steele spread the rumor as well, telling David Kramer, a former State Department official, who, as it happens, was also the person who later passed a copy of Steele’s “dossier” to BUZZFEED, where it was published in full with no verification.

Flynn, it was said, left with Lokhova from a dinner both had been invited to at Cambridge when he was the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, in 2015. That dinner, hosted by Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of British spy organization MI-6 and associate of “confidential human source” Stefan Halper, may very well have been set up to place Flynn and Lokhova together. Recall that Obama opposed Flynn and his ideas on how to run military intel and wanted him gone.

Lokhova has vehemently denied that she left the dinner with Flynn, saying her husband picked her up at the end of the evening and that there was nothing between her and Flynn. (Though Ross’s piece doesn’t mention this, I believe she also sued those who were perpetuating the rumor.)

We talked about this many months ago as part of what Lee Smith reported in his outstanding book THE PLOT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT. One might also say this was the plot against Michael Flynn, too.

The newly declassified summary notes of Flynn’s meeting with the special counsel’s office show for the first time that Flynn was asked about this and cooperated fully, saying the allegations he’d read in the media were “ridiculous.” (There has never been any evidence of a relationship between Flynn and Lokhova.) Two days after this interview, he struck his unfortunate plea deal with the special counsel’s office.

William Barnett, the FBI agent investigating Flynn as part of Crossfire Hurricane, had already said in a January 2017 memo that a tip the Bureau received from an FBI informant about Flynn leaving that event with a Russian national was likely inaccurate. And in September 2020, he told a federal prosecutor that he’d found the allegation of Flynn leaving the event with Lokhova to be “not plausible.”

So, who put the fake story out there? It’s like an Agatha Christie murder mystery --- without the murder, except to the reputations of a couple of people. Was it Sir Richard Dearlove? Cambridge professor Christopher Andrew? One of the few Cambridge students in attendance? Or was it Stefan Halper, a close associate of Dearlove who was not at the dinner but who had been a CHS (“confidential human source”) for the FBI since 2008 and whom we know provided information to the FBI as part of their investigation of the Trump campaign?

Recall that Halper met with George Papadopoulos, Carter Page and Sam Clovis of the Trump campaign and secretly recorded them all.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on Halper. Sure enough, we now know it was Halper who invited Lokhova to that dinner. Also, according to other documents that have just been declassified, Halper told his FBI handler Steven Somma about Flynn and “someone he deemed to be suspicious.” Here’s a little refresher on Somma, also known as “Case Agent 1.”

Flynn was definitely caught in the crossfire of Crossfire Hurricane. According to the DOJ inspector general’s report dated December 19, 2019, FBI agents who met with Christopher Steele on October 3, 2916, offered to pay him “significantly” to dig up dirt on several Trump associates, including Flynn. What a deal for Steele --- he got to go after Trump, whom he couldn’t stand, help Hillary beat him, and get paid “significantly” in the process. Here’s a refresher.

No, we still don’t know what U.S. Attorney John Durham is going to do with any of this. And we’re now stuck with a Biden Justice Department, so justice seems unlikely. But thanks to Trump finally getting this stuff out, we’re filling in the holes and confirming what we knew was done to the President and fine people like Michael Flynn. Sorry to say, the intel community really does have “six ways from Sunday” of getting back at you.

And as part of the new Biden administration, it’ll be on steroids. Look at what the FBI has done already, drumming up phony concern about a small group of extremists called QAnon, which most Republicans (including us) had never even heard of, and also throwing the book at social media influencer and “meme”-creator Doug Mackey (a.k.a. Ricky Vaughn) on charges of INTERFERING WITH THE 2020 ELECTION. (He faces 10 years; check out his story elsewhere in today’s newsletter.) The irony of the FBI going after anyone for “election interference” after what they did both before and after the 2016 election is beyond calculation.

The Department of Homeland Security has focused on Trump supporters, too, offering this warning: "Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence."

Not that they have evidence of this actually happening THAT THEY HAVE REVEALED. But, as we've seen with the case of Michael Flynn, they're perfectly capable of creating their own "false narratives."

"Racial Equity"

January 28, 2021

President Biden’s latest executive orders abolished Trump’s 1776 Commission that was created to promote the teaching of American history from a patriotic standpoint instead of the "1619 Project" version of American history as irredeemably racist. There were also other orders aimed at battling our alleged “systemic racism.”

You should also get used to hearing the term “racial equity” instead of “racial equality.” Laura Ingraham had a good discussion of what that will mean last night.

In the old, obsolete America, people were guaranteed equality of opportunity, and the only limits on how far you could go were your own talents, skills and willingness to work hard. Biden and his staffers like Susan Rice want to replace that with “racial equity,” or equality of outcomes based on the government deciding who deserves success more, as judged by who enjoys the most “privilege.”

Under systems like this, the government enjoys the most privilege because politicians and bureaucrats get to buy votes by deciding that government contracts, grants, job opportunities and other largesse go to favored groups rather than those who can do the job best, fastest and at the least cost to taxpayers. If you’re going to lard out goodies based on who’s the most oppressed or privileged, then the real power lies with whoever decides who that is. If they decide that a poor, white male Appalachian coal miner has more “privilege” than a black, gay Harvard grad, then too bad for him.

Just like all socialist systems, it’s a formula for expanding government power and corruption by literally judging people by the color of their skin (the Democrats’ go-to position since pre-Civil War days.) Doesn’t sound very American to me, but then, these people warned us that they were going to “remake” America. Voters should have paid more attention. I don’t think most Americans are going to like what they try to remake America into.

In the meantime, to combat this fundamentally anti-American and deeply racist mindset, I recommend checking out these two links, about two very important new documentaries on race and America that go against the leftist narrative.
