We need a lot more Republicans with the backbone of Sen. Rand Paul.

Sunday, in a remarkable interview, he pushed back forcefully against George Stephanopoulos’ insistence that he say the 2020 election was “not stolen.” As if any objective person, well-versed in what happened before, during and after Election Day, could say that with certainly.

Tuesday, on the Senate floor, Sen. Paul unloaded on Democrats bent on removing a President from office who is already gone. This speech preceded his point of order to affirm that the planned impeachment trial is unconstitutional, as the impeachment of a private citizen is illegal and “essentially, a bill of attainder.”

Sen. Paul appeared later Tuesday on FOX NEWS with Maria Bartiromo, who reported that the Senate had voted 55-45 to set aside his point of order. Still, with 45 senators on record saying this trial is unconstitutional, there won’t be a conviction and this is all just extremely divisive political theater.

"If you voted that it was unconstitutional,” Sen. Paul told POLITICO, “how in the world would you ever convict somebody for this? This vote indicates it’s over. The trial is all over.” And in a tweet, Paul said the House impeachment case is “dead on arrival.”

You can see the video of his speech here at POLITICROSSING, which also has a brief biographical piece on Sen. Paul.

The Kentucky senator opens by talking about what this trial will NOT do: “unify” the country. It does just the opposite of what Democrats claim to want to do. “Impeaching a former President, a private citizen, is the antithesis of unity,” Paul says. “Unity is the opposite of this travesty we’re about to witness.”

He points out that the appointment of a “pro-impeachment Democrat” to preside is neither fair nor impartial. And he’s right: Sen. Patrick Leahy –- whom I would add has ALREADY SAID he would vote to impeach –- is presiding instead of Chief Justice John Roberts, who opted out. The refusal of Chief Justice Roberts to participate is, in itself, enough to show this proceeding for the unconstitutional sham it is.

[Related news: on Tuesday, it was reported that Sen. Leahy, 80, was “feeling unwell” and taken to the hospital for examination and tests but returned home Tuesday night. No details were given. We pray for him and his family.]

"Hyper-partisan Democrats,” Paul says in his speech, “are about to drag our great country down into the gutter of rancor and vitriol the likes of which has never been seen in our nation’s history.”

Truly, I believe that if you don’t count the Civil War –- which seems to be the only worse time that comes to mind these days –- Paul is right in saying this is the most “uncivil” it’s been.

"It’s almost as if they have no ability to exist except in opposition to Donald Trump.”

Bingo –- and now that he’s gone, they will be aiming their venom at anyone who doesn’t share that opposition. Worse, they’ll feel totally self-righteous and “woke” about it.

Paul does a great job of contrasting Trump’s call for “peacefully and patriotically” making their way to the Capitol Building to some of the genuinely incendiary comments that have been made by Democrats.

"No Democrat will honestly ask whether Bernie Sanders incited the shooter that nearly killed Steve Scalise,” he says. Sen. Paul was there and saw that it easily could have become a massacre. “[The shooter] fervently believed the false and inflammatory rhetoric spewed by Bernie and other Democrats...[about Republicans opposing Obamacare wanting people to die].” Sen. Paul notes that when the shooter pulled the trigger, he screamed, “This is for health care!!”

Sen. Paul also cites Sen. Cory Booker, who called for his supporters to “get up in their face [of members of Congress],” and Rep. Maxine Waters, who told her supporters “that if you see a member of the Trump administration at a restaurant, at a department store, at a gas station, or any place, you create a crowd, and you push back on them.” Paul is right: Such words are a recipe for mob violence, and this type of rhetoric is one big reason why anyone working for Trump was asking for trouble (and still is) just stepping outside without protection. Because of the severity of the threats, my own daughter Sarah was the first White House press secretary ever to need Secret Service protection.

Paul describes the experience he and his wife had as they left a White House rally on foot, being bullied, screamed at and threatened with death “by the same type of mob that Maxine likes to inspire.” He says that when this happened, he wasn’t sure they’d come through it alive “even with the police protection.” (My wife and I were at that event and had a similar frightening experience, although not as dangerous as Sen. Paul’s.)

He reminds them that Republicans have endured this political climate without stooping to impeach Democrats for inciting violence. They haven’t held Democrats responsible for what Antifa and BLM did, even though that has resulted in deaths, many injuries, and over $1 billion dollars in damage from burning and looting. They haven't done it even though “many on the Democrat side cheered them on,” Paul says, with Kamala Harris even offering to pay the bill for those who got arrested.

"I wonder if she’ll be brought up on charges of inciting violence,” Paul said, “now that she’s Vice President.” No, he said, because the Republicans won’t go down that “low road of impeaching people for political speech.”

"I want the Democrats to raise their hands if they have ever given a speech that says ‘take back,’ ‘fight for your country.’ Who hasn’t used the word ‘fight’ figuratively...and are we going to impeach every politician who has used the word ‘fight’ figuratively in a speech? Shame --- shame on these angry, unhinged partisans for putting on this sham impeachment, deranged by their hatred of the former President. Shame on those who seek blame and revenge, and who choose to pervert a constitutional process while doing so.”

The speech runs just over 9 minutes. It’s a must-see, especially from the 7-minute point on, when he gets into “facts,” “truth” and the censorship of opposing views. This is “a dark blot on the history of our country,” Paul says. “I urge my colleagues to reconsider this kangaroo court and move forward to debate the great issues of our day.” Sen. Paul's words need to be remembered not only for their importance, but as a reflection of this period of mass political hysteria that we pray America can pull out of.

Make no mistake, it is hysteria. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz quipped to Sean Hannity on Tuesday night that “I feel like I’m kind of trapped in GROUNDHOG DAY, where, apparently, every January, we’re gonna be doing another impeachment.”

Among President Biden’s flurry of mind boggling executive orders is one that rescinds Trump’s order to keep China from being involved in America’s power grid.

Biden also intends to go back to the failed Obama “catch and release” immigration program, instead of keeping migrants on the Mexican side of the border while their claims to enter the US are being processed. Biden had a phone call with Mexico’s President, who, while trying to remain diplomatic, seemingly conveyed that he agreed with Trump’s plan. What Biden denounced as Trump’s “draconian immigration policies” actually helped both the US and Mexico. They kept illegal immigrants from being released in America, never to show up for their court dates, and they discouraged migrants from Central America from crossing through Mexico to get here.

Biden’s genius plan for stopping illegal immigration is to send $4 billion of our tax money to Central America to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration. I’m sure that money will end up going only into the most efficient and productive areas to aid the people, and will not be pocketed by corrupt officials and powerful drug gangs. A policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute called $4 billion a nice start, but only that. Spoken like a true Democrat.

Or maybe Biden’s genius plan is to kill so many jobs and take away so many freedoms in America that migrants will decide they’d rather just stay in Honduras or El Salvador. If so, he’s certainly off to a good start.

While it’s a great idea for conservatives to let companies that cave to the leftist mobs know they’re sacrificing millions of customers over the bleating of a handful of radicals on Twitter and that you will take your dollars elsewhere if they don’t grow a spine and stop it, it’s also important that conservatives flex their economic power by patronizing companies that don’t target, insult and demonize them.

For instance (and I hope they forgive me for putting them on the spot by praising them), Costco announced that it has no intention of violating its contracts with MyPillow over CEO Mike Lindell’s skepticism of the 2020 election results, unlike Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond and Wayfair.

A Costco rep said, “We have contractual commitments to MyPillow that we intend to honor, as we seek to do with all of our suppliers.” Why, it’s almost as if they were running a business, not a Stalinist purge!

(Incidentally, if you’re wondering why I would link to what the left calls a “rightwing conspiracy site” – Gateway Pundit – rather than the source of their story, MSN.com, it’s because the GP story is far more accurate and objective. The MSN site is filled with disproven claims and overheated propaganda, even tarring Lindell because MyPillow advertises on Fox News.)

Along those same lines, here are 17 companies you can support that don’t discriminate against conservatives.

And a link to our recent entertainment gift guide, if you’d like to support entertainers who don’t go around calling conservatives Nazis and demanding they be put in concentration camps (I never said Hollywood stars were history students.)

It appears that not enough Americans subscribe to this newsletter, or else they would have no excuse for casting uninformed votes for Joe Biden and other Democrats and now be expressing shock and dismay at what they’re doing. The warnings were right here, every day for a year. And yet, getting rid of Trump’s mean tweets was all-important.

Now, buyer’s remorse is already setting in with a vengeance. A rising tide of complaints is coming from labor unions, entire states, other nations such as Canada, women (black women in particular, who benefit from sports scholarships that will now be dominated by “trans women”), and even an Indian tribe that’s accusing Biden of making “a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination” with his 60-day moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal land.

Texas has already filed a lawsuit to block one of Biden’s executive orders.

New Mexico voted for Biden by 10 points, and their economy is heavily dependent on oil and gas drilling, much of it on federal lands. Now, panic is striking New Mexico. Many of those fuel companies will just move directly east to Texas, where they can drill on non-federal land. A study by the University of Wyoming found that if Biden’s ban on new federal land fuel leases stays in effect throughout his four-year term, New Mexico would lose “36,217 jobs, $22.1 billion in GDP, $9.8 billion in wages and $6.3 billion in tax revenue.”

And here are a couple of stories about shocked Biden voters who thought they were getting a moderate centrist (or in some cases, a $2000 check), and instead are watching Biden sign one executive order after another that will destroy thousands of jobs, devastate the economy and end border security.

Here’s a typical post: “Jeremy just called and yelled at me. He said everyone on the job site are freaking out thinking they are going to lose their jobs. He’s blaming me for voting for Biden. You know I hated the way Trump acted. Is it true that Jeremy could lose his job?”

Yes, chances are he will, as will many other Americans. But at least he won’t have to read any mean Trump tweets while standing in the unemployment line.

Who else is kicking themselves for supporting Biden? How about all the unions whose members’ jobs will be wiped out by Biden’s executive orders?

Frankly, it’s too exhausting and depressing to try to keep up with all the economic carnage being wrecked so quickly, but Jeff Dunetz at The Lid blog is giving it a go. He estimates that in just his first 72 hours in office, Biden has killed over 70,000 jobs directly (he also quotes some of the howling from various union leaders who helped put him in office, prioritizing politics over the good of their members – something the members should remember come voting time.)

Of course, those are just the immediate, direct job losses. There will be many more, due to the snowball effect. Because of Biden’s war on domestic energy, fuel prices are already going up (one month ago, the average cost of a gallon of regular was $2.25; today it’s $2.40, and that’s only the beginning.) Higher costs of fuel and more regulations will make American products more expensive to produce and transport, which will make them less competitive in the market, which will lower sales and revenues, which means fewer jobs and lower wages. These are things you know if you’ve ever run a business, but not if you’ve drawn an always-increasing government paycheck for decades.

Finally, here’s Stephen Kruiser’s morning recap of the first five days of turning the White House over to the captain of the Titanic.

Multiple union leaders are joining Canadian officials in expressing their anger over President Biden’s executive order killing the Keystone Pipeline project (along with thousands of union jobs) and reneging on an expensive agreement with Canada, just to appease some radical green activists and “undo Trump’s legacy.”

Never having run a business (or done anything other than warm a government seat for 47 years), Biden doesn’t understand that when a new boss comes in, he doesn’t arbitrarily cancel every project his predecessor set in motion, especially not those that represent a major investment and a number of binding outside contracts.

Unfortunately, he’s also surrounded himself with other people whose experience is entirely in politics, which explains the clueless response to the anger by his Transportation Secretary pick, Pete Buttigieg (whose experience includes being mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and nothing involving transportation or oil.) In a stunning "learn to code" moment, Buttigieg brushed off concerns about all the lost union jobs, assuring the newly unemployed pipeline workers that with Biden’s coming climate initiatives, they can just find “different” jobs.

This Administration is only four days old, and I’m already seeing a lot of people who need to find different jobs.

The 46th President

January 25, 2021

Joe Biden became the 46th President on Wednesday and he said he wanted to fight as hard for the people who didn’t vote for him to promote unity, but then he proceeded to imply that anyone who voted for President Trump was a racist, a white nationalist, or an imbecile who needs to be de-programmed and re-educated. Boy, that really warmed the hearts of 74 million people! I will not spend the next 4 years screaming that “Biden is NOT MY PRESIDENT!” I honestly can’t fault Joe Biden for issuing a stack of executive orders that undid pretty much everything Donald Trump did by executive orders in 4 years. As we should all know, elections have consequences. With the stroke of a pen, Joe Biden opened the borders to illegal immigrants who are now rushing to get in so we can educate them, give them health care, let them vote, and compete with your kids for jobs. He stopped the Keystone Pipeline which means fuel prices in the US will jump up, we’ll tick off Canada, kill 11,000 jobs immediately, and return us from our being energy independent to once again having to beg the Saudis for oil. This really helps the Russians, who’ve been all but bankrupted by the Trump energy policies of putting America first. So for all the lies told about Donald Trump colluding with Russia, it turns out that Russia’s real friend is Joe Biden. In all, in his first hours as President, Joe Biden signed about 17 executive orders to undo policies of Donald Trump. And that’s what happens in an election. You don’t just lose power; you change direction. And if you just liked Joe Biden’s personality more than Donald Trump’s, then hopefully you won’t mind paying for it. And you will pay for it. But it’s not the Big Government economic policies that will disturb me most. It’s endangering our ally Israel by getting back into the deal with Iran, the world’s largest sponsor of state-owned terrorism. It’s pushing a pro-abortion agenda that believes it’s normal and okay to take the life of a baby right up until the moment of birth and force you to pay for that horrific procedure with your tax dollars. It’s forcing institutions and schools to play along with the fiction that a person’s gender can be decided by “imagining it to be” regardless of the science of biology as well as the Bible that says there are 2 genders, male and female. But don’t expect to be given the truth about what Joe Biden does or doesn’t do from the media. Their hate of Trump was so intense that even after mocking him for saying we’d get a vaccine before the end of the year when he launched Operation Warp Speed, he delivered, and they dived into their arrogance and never admitted that they were wrong or have they or will they ever give him credit. Our country is truly divided and while I hope President Biden will try to bring the nation together, he can’t if he doesn’t recognize that 74 million of us see the world differently, but we are not racists, white supremacists, or nativists. We love God, our families, and our country. And we think America is good. Not perfect, but good and better than it was. And I guess even the leftists are starting to agree with us because when Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem at the inauguration, not one person took a knee!

To the surprise of nobody, Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer seems determined to press ahead with a trial on the unprecedented, most likely unconstitutional impeachment of former President Trump.

He’s insisting that you can impeach someone who’s no longer in office, even though impeachment exists as an action to remove someone from office. It’s possible that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts might refuse even to preside over it, if he cares about the Constitution (sadly, that’s an open question.) Here are some more details on the confusing issues that are only now being debated because in all of American history, this is the first time Congress has ever pulled anything this stupid, at least in the impeachment field.

Sen. Mitch McConnell is pressing to delay any trial to February, to give Trump’s people a fair chance to mount a defense, something they didn’t get to do during the rushed House vote, which is another reason why this is totally bogus (another is that he was impeached for allegedly inciting the Capitol riot with a speech that a federal investigation has already proven took place after the rioters had already started planning their assault.) Schumer will likely oppose that, since trying to impeach a President who’s been gone for five weeks might look five times dumber than trying to impeach one who’s been gone for one week.

Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas tried (probably futilely) to inject some common sense into the Senate proceedings by pointing out, “We won’t be doing any confirmations, we won’t be doing any COVID-19 relief, we won’t be doing anything else other than impeaching a person who’s not even President.” Unfortunately, we live in a time when trying to inject common sense into the Senate is like trying to give a vaccination shot to a Pet Rock.
