I pray the electoral college stays. Hillary did not win the majority of the popular vote. She won the plurality. The combined Republican and Libertarian presidential votes exceeded the Democratic votes by about one million. I and most Libertarians I know plan to vote for President Trump in 2020. (The Democrats have turned into terrifying creatures. Socialism doesn't play well with Libertarians!) If it is an honest election, President Trump will probably win the popular vote as well as the electoral college.

America a Constitutional Republic why we vote according to the Electoral College, not the National Popular Vote.

Many citizens want to change to a National Popular voting system. That can and will negate our Republic form of government. Our Founding Fathers went to great lengths to protect our Republic form of government as stated in the constitution where the word Democracy doesn’t appear, nor does it appear in the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights.

In the Federalist papers #10, James Madison expressed “Measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority.” John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.” The founders expressed contempt for tyranny of majority rule, and they placed impediments to tyranny throughout our Constitution. To give an example, the two houses of Congress pose one obstacle to majority rule, 51 senators can block the wishes of 435 representatives and 49 senators. The President can veto the wishes of 535 members of Congress. It takes two-thirds of both houses of Congress to override a Presidential veto.

To change the constitution requires not a majority but a two- thirds vote of both houses, and if an amendment is approved, it requires ratification by three-fourths of state legislatures. The electoral college is the safety valve that protects the constitution from majority rule. It protects the small states from being run over by the 12 states on the west and east coasts. It forces Presidential candidates into considering the wishes of the remaining 38 states.

What if we were governed by popular vote (majority rule) if the majority wanted to get rid of the Senate where states regardless of population, have two senators. Should we change the House of Representatives to a system based on proportional representation and eliminate the guarantee that each state gets at least one representative? Currently 7 states have population of less than 1 million or fewer giving them at least one representative. If we establish majority rule will we then vote to change our court system from unanimity to majority rule? If charged with a crime of murder 7 juries out of 12 can convict you. Is that what Americans wants? A conviction by the majority? Should New York and California decide our gun laws, tax laws, property rights, and our freedom of speech? Think about the damage and the loss of our Bill of Rights, if this ever gets passed.

It is for many of our citizens who know little about our Republic form of government and our Constitution that is fueling this movement to abolish the electoral college. The electoral college is the safety net that protects our freedoms and liberties as stated in our Constitution!

No. Will only be fair elections with electoral college. Our Founders knew what they were doing.

Thank you for your explanation of the electoral college voting. So sorry to see Sarah leaving, loved to see her put them in their places. Good luck to you and your daughter.

I can only thing of two things that could cause a revolution in this country. Of course confiscation of firearms would be number one but a close 2nd would be removing the electoral college. What are these morons thinking?

Stop being SCREWED! Congress created an ILLEGAL way around holding a REQUIRED Constitutional Convention of States. They now ILLEGALLY use " Convention of States". This is NOT a legal, Constitutional alternative. The Bill of Rights says "DO NOT OBEY ILLEGAL LAWS". Remember -YOU AND I are the bosses, NOT the Politicians! #PelosiIsADomesticTerrorist. STOP the #AltLeft

Without the electoral college NY and CA would pick the winner everytime and the rest of the country would never have a say in the election.

Our founding fathers put this in place to let all states large and small participate in the election process fairly. Otherwise our larger states would rule our country.

This is why the EC was created, to prevent two states from running the country and ignoring the others.
