Abuse of power at the FBI: here it is, straight from the mouth of none other than former FBI Director James Comey. He was speaking at a public appearance Sunday in New York City before a (not surprisingly) warm and supportive crowd. Here’s the part where he actually brags that he personally ordered the agents to go ambush Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn...

Moderator: “You look at this White House now; it’s hard to imagine two FBI agents ending up in the state room. How did that happen?”

Comey: (after slight pause) “I sent them. (longer pause for big laugh from audience) Something we--I probably wouldn’t have done or maybe gotten away with in a more organized investigation—a more organized administration. In the George W. Bush administration, for example, or the Obama administration, the protocol---two men that, all of a sudden, perhaps increased appreciation for, over the last two years (long applause from audience). In both those administrations, there was process. So if the FBI wanted to send agents into the White House itself to interview a senior official, you would work through the White House counsel, there would be discussions and approvals, and it would be there, and I thought ‘it’s early enough; let’s just send a couple guys over.’”

AOC for President

By Mike Huckabee

“Democratic” Socialist Rep-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has complained how unfair it is for the media to depict her as dumb for her public statements (welcome to the world Republicans from Reagan to Dan Quayle to George W. Bush inhabited, and their statements had to be twisted out of context to be made to sound dumb).  But at least she has a defender in Vox’s Matt Yglesias, who performed the same service that soldiers do when they draw fire away from their comrades.

Yglesias is so enamored of the popular dispenser of baffling comments on civics and economics that he wrote an article demanding she be allowed to run for President even though she’s only 29.  In fact, he thinks we should scrap that entire pesky section of the Constitution that defines who’s qualified and let anyone of any age from anywhere on Earth run for US President.  Besides, as he pointed out, she has that cool nickname: “AOC.” Plus, if we elect someone older as President, “The really awful thing about being old is that you just keep getting older over time.”  Deep, dude.

(I should point out that Yglesias is 37, so he does provide a sterling example of the fact that merely being over 35 doesn't imbue you with superior judgement or intelligence.)

The piece accomplished the goal of distracting people from attacking Rep.-elect Ocasio-Cortez and turning their attention instead to mocking the idiocy of this article, which makes SpongeBob Squarepants sound like Albert Einstein. Even AOC replied, “How about... no. Sometimes political media is too fixated on personalities instead of policies. The whole country JUST went through an exhausting midterm election. We need a break.”

Let it be noted that I praised her: that’s the wisest thing I’ve ever heard her say.

KFC Firelogs

By Mike Huckabee

Just in time for the holidays, KFC unveiled the KFC Firelog.  It’s a fireplace log that smells like Kentucky Fried Chicken when you burn it in your fireplace.  A spokeswoman said, “This winter we're bringing all the things we love — family, friends and fried chicken — together around the fire with our scented firelog."

The 11-herbs-and-spices firelog is available at for a limited time only.  However, I imagine anyone who would buy this already has a house that smells like KFC year-‘round. One warning: don’t go off and leave it burning when you’re not home.  You might come back to a house that’s extra-crispy.

Nancy Wilson RIP

By Pat Reeder

We’re sad to report that one of the 20th century’s finest musical artists, platinum-selling Grammy winner Nancy Wilson, has died at 81 after a long illness that forced her to retire from touring in 2011.

Nancy Wilson was usually classified as a jazz or torch singer, but she defied categories, singing everything from Gershwin to Stevie Wonder.  She said she thought of herself as a “song stylist” who interpreted each lyric individually to tell the story of that song.  During the 1960s, she released eight albums that made it to the Billboard top 20, in an era when rock had taken over and banished most elegant, traditional jazz-style vocalists to Vegas.

She was so oblivious to popular music fads that when an interviewer asked her about Eric Clapton’s rock trio Cream, she later said, “It took me years to know what that question was about.”  She said she was too busy working in the 1960s, not only in music, but building a successful side career as an actress. She was also awarded the NAACP Image Award in 1998 for her efforts in the civil rights movement.

Nancy Wilson left behind a rich musical legacy that will continue to be enjoyed by future generations, especially with many young hipsters now rediscovering the Great American Songbook stylists of the ‘50s and ‘60s, and haunting thrift shops for turntables and vinyl LPs.

This obituary has much more on the woman known to fans as “The Fancy Miss Nancy” and “The Girl With the Honey-Covered Voice.”

From the “You’re Doing This All Wrong” Desk:

By Mike Huckabee

Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg (who obviously has money to flush down the gutter) teamed up with some European environmentalist artists for a project called “Ice Watch London.”  It’s to “raise awareness” of climate change on the third anniversary of the Paris Climate Accord (incidentally, how much CO2 has been released by all the burning from the riots in Paris lately?)  And to quote Dave Barry, I swear, I am not making this up.

The project involves illustrating the desperate need to curb CO2 emissions by cutting 220,000 pounds of ice from glaciers in Greenland (which environmentalists claim they are trying to save) and transporting it 2,000 miles by smoke-spewing trucks, trains and ships to London, where it will sit in a park and people can watch it melt down the drains.  Along with Mike Bloomberg’s money.

You’d think they’d be able to find some ice much closer by, considering that today’s temperatures in London are projected to range between 30 and 42 degrees F., whereas the historical average for this date is much warmer (38 to 45 degrees F.)  Or maybe it’s just expected to be cooler because they shipped in all that ice from Greenland.  On the bright side, maybe it will attract environmentalist tourists who’ll fly in from all over the world to watch the ice melt and say, “See? Everyone is now aware that ice melts!"

Best gift book of Christmas

By Mike Huckabee

Here’s a scary sign for the health of the publishing industry, and for literacy in general: Barnes and Noble released its annual list of the 20 best holiday gift ideas.  It includes mittens, a Buddha board, Mickey Mouse speakers, several kinds of socks…and only one book.

Even worse, it suggests that the people at Barnes & Noble don’t even know what the best gift book of Christmas 2018 really is:
