So much for MeToo
It seemed at first that the Democrats’ embrace of the MeToo movement would do away with due process, and that henceforth, all it would take to derail a man’s career would be an accusation of sexual abuse. That lasted only until it started bringing down powerful Democrats. (For the record, I called on Republican Roy Moore to step aside if the accusations against him were true, but defended his right to due process if he denied them, the exact same stand I take for Democrats similarly accused.)
I have to assume that Tuesday’s Democratic primary in Minnesota officially pounded the last nail into the coffin of the Democrats’ support for the idea that women never lie about men assaulting them. Over the past few days, Democratic Representative and DNC co-chairman Keith Ellison was accused of violent abuse against an ex-girlfriend by the woman’s son. Ellison denied the claims, but the woman tweeted that everything her son said was true and that Ellison knows he did that to her. She wrote that if he didn’t stop saying her son was lying, she would leak more texts and info to prove it.
Despite this, on Tuesday, Ellison defeated four other qualified candidates to become the Democratic candidate for Minnesota Attorney General (note: the state’s top prosecutor). Adding extra irony: he ran on a promise to oppose President Trump’s policies because they’re “hurting people.”
Now, I don’t know if Ellison is guilty, and even though his politics are diametrically opposed to mine, I’ll also defend his right to due process. But if Democrats are willing to overlook accusations this serious and vote to make him their state’s top legal official, then spare us any further sanctimonious chin music about how a woman who accuses a man should always be believed. You didn’t handle that very well when Hillary Clinton was your candidate, and the stench of hypocrisy just got even stronger.
In other primary news
In other Tuesday primary news, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty failed in his bid to recapture the GOP nomination, losing to County Commissioner Jeff Johnson, despite Pawlenty having much more money and name recognition. Johnson ran as the more conservative candidate and blasted Pawlenty for his attacks on Donald Trump as “unhinged” and “unfit” in 2016. This makes Pawlenty the latest of several anti-Trump Republicans to pay the price at the polls. Johnson will battle Democratic Rep. Tim Walz for the open Governor's seat in November.
In Wisconsin, Democratic state schools chief Tony Evers will become the latest liberal Don Quixote to tilt at Republican Gov. Scott Walker. In Connecticut, a solid blue state that needs a Republican governor worse than England needs dentists, Republican businessman and political newcomer Bob Stefanowski will take on Democrat Ned Lamont to try to clean up the mess left by Gov. Dan Malloy, who wisely decided not to run for another term.
Finally, congratulations to Christine Hallquist, who became the first transgender person to become a major party nominee for state governor after winning the Democratic primary in Vermont. But she says she wants to run on her platform rather than being transgender. Her platform is the now-familiar “progressive” cocktail of budget-busting socialist giveaway programs (free college tuition, Medicare for All, etc.) Maybe she hasn’t heard, but Vermont tried a single-payer health care program called Green Mountain Care whose proponents claimed it would save the state $1.6 billion over ten years. Instead, it cost far more than predicted, spiraled toward bankruptcy and was scrapped before it required an estimated 160% tax increase to save. But that was in 2014, and you can’t expect progressives to remember back that far. They're forward-thinkers!
Of course, no matter who won Vermont’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, it would have been groundbreaking, since the other candidates were an environmental activist, a dance festival organizer and a 14-year-old boy who got on the ticket due to a loophole in the law that failed to list a minimum age. However it came out, any upcoming debates would have been certain to be entertaining.
New Gallup Poll
A great deal of attention is being paid to a new Gallup Poll showing that for the first time (or the first time they’ve ever admitted it), Democrats have a more favorable view of socialism than of capitalism. While the number who like socialism positively (a shocking 57% or so) hasn’t changed since Obama’s election in 2008, the number who view capitalism positively has dropped to 47%. This disturbing trend is being led by young people, who have been miseducated to the point that 51% of Americans age 18 to 29 have a positive view of socialism, while only 45% have a positive view of capitalism – the system that allows them the luxury of attending expensive universities where their heads are filled with leftist horse droppings like socialism.
In this sense, it’s enlightening to listen to the statements of the glamorous new face of socialism, Alexandria Oscasio-Cortez. Not to learn anything, because most of what she says is bone-jarringly stupid; but to understand how an entire generation has been misled into swallowing the false promises of socialism, which has a perfect record of tragic failure everywhere it’s been tried. And the excuse is always that it was run by “the wrong people,” or that all that oppression and starvation was because they didn’t institute “true socialism.”
Ms Ocasio-Cortez assures us that this isn’t the old, nasty socialism, it’s the totally different “Democratic socialism” (i.e., same snake oil but in a new and improved bottle.) In a recent appearance on “The View,” she got a round of applause from the reliably liberal studio audience by making the emotional but vapid claim that “Democratic socialism” just means that in a wealthy nation like ours, nobody should ever be “too poor to live.”
As someone who grew up poor in America and knows a lot more about the subject than most Ivy League sociology majors, I have to ask: who are these Americans who are “too poor to live?” Are there vast numbers of Americans going without food or medicine, like the people in Venezuela, which was also once a wealthy nation before it discovered socialism? It’s precisely because we are a wealthy capitalist nation that poor people have the opportunity to become middle class and rich, and that those who don’t are provided with Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, welfare, food stamps, public schools, disability, Social Security, public housing and other benefits. When you adjust for taxes, benefits and cost of living, the poor in America earn more than the median income earned by most of the middle class in Europe. Thank you, capitalism!
Sadly, many young people have replaced education and research with Internet memes shared around social media sites. A handful of these memes do a brilliant job of making a point visually, but most are just pre-processed slices of fact-and-context-free propaganda in cartoon form for people who have trouble with reading too many words.
One of the most popular current memes shows a Nazi and a female Soviet soldier with the caption: “Nazi – Started the Holocaust. Communist – Ended the Holocaust. That is the difference.”
Kim Hirsch at the Victory Girls blog does an excellent job of recounting some of the bloody history of communism that proves what blinkered idiocy that meme represents. Of course, you’d have to take a real history course rather than a revisionist history course to know that one of the very few differences between the Nazis and communists is that Germany and Russia were on opposite sides in World War II (although at the beginning, the Soviets didn’t even have that going for them: Stalin signed a non-aggression treaty with Hitler in 1939, and as the Nazis were invading Poland, the Russians invaded from the other side, dissolving Poland’s government and arresting, deporting or executing 1.5 million Poles, including 10,000 Polish military officers who were shot through the head and buried in the woods.)
In terms of violence, aggression and oppression, the Nazis and communists were kindred spirits. As Dennis Prager has pointed out, while nothing has ever matched the pure evil of the Holocaust, the attempted genocide of every Jew in Europe, in terms of the sheer numbers of victims, the communists made the Nazis look like amateurs. Six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. During the 20th century, 70 million Chinese, 5 million Cambodians and 20 million Russians were exterminated by their own governments, and that’s just three communist nations. In the early 1930s, while the New York Times was running fawning articles praising the visionary Joseph Stalin, he was starving 4 million Ukrainians to death at once by creating an artificial famine.
You can read Ms Hirsch’s article and see both the meme and the Prager University video on why young people don’t know the truth about communism at this link. I hope your high school and college age children will read it, too, along with every Democrat who thinks socialism is the newest miracle cure for human suffering.

Blame leftist education
Once again, the embrace of communism/socialism by millennials boils down to a leftist education establishment indoctrinating instead of educating. One would hope that the free flow of information on the Internet would help open young people’s eyes to real history so they could see how badly they have been ripped off for their tuition dollars. Instead, they get idiotic pro-communist memes while their deluded economics professors assign them readings in Karl Marx. No wonder equally deluded wealthy socialists in Silicon Valley are doing everything in their power to censor Prager University videos and other voices that dare to dispense red-pill reality from the Internet.
If you have a little extra time and would like to delve into this topic deeper than a meme can take you, here's an excellent in-depth essay by S.G. Cheah explaining why “Democratic socialism” is just the latest “new and improved” brand name for slavery.

A perfect response
The L.A. Times wants journalists to stop playing themselves in movies and TV shows. Conservative satirist Iowahawk offers the perfect response:

Never enough
Here’s further proof that if you knuckle under to the “social justice warrior” keyboard lynch mob and try to be “woke” enough to please them, it will just encourage them to scream louder and never let you get any sleep.
CW Network suits must’ve thought they were going to score some major “woke” points when they announced that they were adding Batwoman to their various DC Comics-inspired shows. But she’s not just a female Batman. Perish the thought, you outdated purveyor of male privilege! She’s a lesbian who fights against criminals and for social justice! And that’s not all: she will be played by Ruby Rose, an Australian actress who is an “out” and outspoken lesbian in real life!
No doubt they were expecting a parade in their honor in West Hollywood. What they didn’t expect was an angry Internet backlash from the left and so many hateful tweets directed at Ms Rose that she quit Twitter to escape it.
And what put the burr in their Birkenstocks? The comic book Batwoman is a Jewish, lesbian social justice crusader, so obviously, the part can be played only by an actual lesbian SJW who’s also Jewish. Which Ms. Rose isn’t. Because when you’re doing a show based on a comic book about a woman who fights crime while dressed as a bat, absolute reality is vital. Just as when Scarlett Johansson bowed out of playing a transgender character under fire from transgender people who think only transgender actors should play transgender people, Hollywood foolishly forgot that it’s not the job of actors to go around pretending to be things that they aren’t in real life.
I think we might have reached a new level of Crazytown’s basement.
I wish Ms Rose good luck in dealing with the irrational criticism; and if she decides to drop out of the part, I wish the CW Network good luck in finding a replacement who really is a Jewish, lesbian, social justice warrior who dresses up as a bat and fights crime in her spare time. Although to avoid being attacked on Twitter for some other ridiculous reason, she might want to do the show under a secret identity.
This never happens
Stop the presses! (Do newspapers still have those?) Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler just did something rare that real fact-checkers are supposed to do: he called a politician on using a debunked quote to attack a political opponent, even though the politician was a Democrat and the target was a Republican.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi repeated a well-worn canard that when President Obama was elected, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in 2010 that the most important thing was that Republicans prevent him from succeeding. Not only is that quote false, but Rep. Pelosi added to the sin of false witness by claiming that it was “racist” and “unthinkable.”
As Mr. Kessler points out, Sen. McConnell never said that Republicans wanted Obama to fail. He said they wanted Obama to be a one-term President because of their vast policy differences. When asked if he would work with Obama if he offered to compromise the way Bill Clinton did, McConnell said, “I don’t want the President to fail; I want him to change. So we’ll see. The next move is going to be up to him.”
I wrote recently here that there are few things worse than racism, and that’s why it’s so “unthinkable” to falsely accuse someone of racism. Unfortunately, as Democrats have seen their hold on the African-American vote slip as Trump’s policies have actually started to improve black lives, they’ve ratcheted up the hysterical accusations of racism. Kudos to the Washington Post for awarding “Four Pinocchios” to Rep. Pelosi for her attempt to tar her colleague as a racist over a phony quote that was debunked long ago.
Now, I wonder if anyone is ever going to correct, since I’m hearing it repeated on a daily basis now, the claim that when President Trump said there were “good people on both sides” in Charlottesville, he wasn’t saying that some violent white supremacists are “good people.” He was talking about the two sides of the debate on whether to remove Confederate monuments. I won’t hold my breath waiting for the peddlers of that falsehood to be challenged by the media.
Hmm
And speaking of claims of racism that just won’t go away, despite disavowals and lack of evidence, here’s the latest on that alleged “N-word” tape from “The Apprentice.”

Attention, pro-life Missouri voters
Attention, pro-life Missouri voters: here’s some news you need to hear. The Missouri Democratic Party leadership has voted unanimously to reverse a recent amendment welcoming pro-life candidates. After suffering the predictable “OUTRAGE” storm from the left, they caved and now call that amendment a “mistake.” For all the Democrats’ chin music about “diversity,” their tolerance of diversity is literally only skin deep and does not extend to allowing any diversity of thought or conscience.
So to sum up: if you simply believe that an abortion ends a human life and dare to say so out loud, then you are not welcome in the Missouri Democratic Party. Please remember this in November and vote accordingly. Thank you.
