Shocking new poll

A new poll of Americans suggests that we had better confirm Supreme Court Justices who know and respect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, because if they take away our rights, too many Americans won’t even realize it.

A survey by the Freedom Forum found that when asked to name the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, just 56% of Americans could name freedom of speech, and it got even more depressing from there.  Only 15% knew it protected freedom of religion (that probably doesn’t include some federal judges), 13% could name freedom of the press, 12% knew freedom of assembly, and a pitiful 2% knew that it guaranteed the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.

Only 3% of Americans could name four out of the five rights guaranteed by the First Amendment (or six, if you count as two the freedom from government imposition of a religion and the freedom from government interference in the practice of your religion – a lot of people seem to know the former, but not the latter.) Nine percent thought the right to bear arms (Second Amendment) was in the First.  Two percent thought it guaranteed the right to vote.  And a shocking 40% of Americans couldn’t name a single one of their First Amendment rights.   

 

Not surprisingly, the survey also found that the more respondents knew about their rights, the less likely they were to support more government restrictions on them.  I would add that it’s also not surprising to learn that the rise in support for “Democratic” socialism has been accompanied by a huge rise in ignorance of the Constitutional rights of individuals.

    The liberal school instructors have been instructing their students in every thing radical and liberal.. Education Departments have taught less and less American History to keep the young from knowing about the World War TWO. The millenntials just do not know what a great Country we have because they have been brain washed by the liberal teachers.

    It sounds like those 5 first amendment rights need to be on our walls next to the ten commandments! Has anyone heard of Google & DuckDuckGo to find out pretty much anything you want to know?? I appreciate organizations who go out on the streets or make phone calls to find out what the general public knows or doesn't know. I've been out of school for several decades but couldn't remember these important rights either. We need to re-educate ourselves since others are attacking these very fundamentals this country was built on! Is there another place we can sail to? I'd like to know. LOL

    Those who do not study history are going to repeat it. (Or words to that effect) We cannot keep our freedoms if we do not stand up to those who would restrict them. I'm 74 years old, not in the best of shape physically, but I would stand up to anyone who seeks to restrict the freedoms guaranteed by the constitution.

    Sad to say gov., but I have to include myself in the group although I did remember them once mentioned. I know you have the presidents ear so please tell him to not do the interview with Mueller, I know he wants to "Trump" Mueller, but he's got to realize he's up against a slick Willy. I honestly think Mueller would agree to castrate himself to get Trump. I also feel the same towards the anti-gunners in their efforts to get the NRA. We live in a corrupt sewer of a bunch of idiots who now want socialism. Just my thoughts.

    And we are loosing the 2nd religious right a lot in schools. So many were and still are, forcing the muslim religion on our children.

    Do away with Common Core. Start teaching the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Civics in schools, AGAIN! When I was in school, we had to pass tests on the Constitution and Bill of Rights before we could graduate the 8th grade!! Thank you, Governor Huckabee, for doing all that you do for our nation! I always like to hear your take on issues!

    Hi Mike; It just goes to show how our education system has gone astray due to the lack of good solid classes on our great country. We need a 2 hour show showing what the country is all about concerning the bill of rights and the constitution. Please ask Fox to create a two hour "special" clearly showing what this proud and great land has to offer in the way of the structured country. Lots of hype and pre-promoting of this special to get maximum viewers. I feel this IS critical to our country before a load of voters are swayed without the "TRUTH" concerning our great land. Thank you Mike for all you do. Keep fighting to educate our people before it is too late.

    SOCIALISM vs CAPITALISM; Let's keep it simple; You are in high school or collage and you study really hard, don't go to parties if you haven't finished your homework, you have 'top quality' in every report you turn in, give total dedication to bringing the best grade to your report card, and you make straight A's!
    You feel your work has been justified and you are very proud of your accomplishments. You feel you can capitalize on this with opportunities that you can pursue in your life's work.
    Now let's say you have a 'socialist' teacher who thinks that everybody's grades should be averaged together so everyone will pass and no one would get a failing grade! That would make everyone equal!...And your grade is put as a 'C'.
    WOULD YOU FEEL THAT IS FAIR? The students who partied, goofed off, and didn't study got the same grade as you! THAT'S SOCIALISM! NOW, HOW HARD WOULD YOU STUDY FOR YOUR NEXT SEMESTER GRADE? WHY WOULD YOU DEDICATE YOURSELF TO BE YOUR BEST? Everybody looses.
    Government produces nothing; They distribute. Anything someone gets for 'free', was worked for by someone else.

    Well, you can see the surprise all over my face!! Disarming the population and keeping them ignorant of the Constitution was described by the Founding Fathers as the way to defeat America. The Communists (Democrats / Liberals) do not want anyone to be educated on anything. The more a person thinks, the more likely they will figure out the left is and has been lying to them.

    We’d better start putting our country’s history back in our schools’ curriculum. Parents need to be proactive in insisting on what is
    taught. And, furthermore, parents in the home have a huge responsibility in equipping their kids of what they need to know about life as God would want. Further yet, moms have 18 years of huge influence in preparing their kids for life. Let’s get smart enough soon enough and equip the kids in our homes with the foundations they need for stability in life.

    It is shocking and appalling the lack of knowledge that comes out of our school system - no wonder we are falling behind many other nations on the planet. Perhaps we are just falling faster than they are -- that is even more terrible. This may need to be a new initiative for President Trump to tackle in the next 6 coming years.

    Well said, as far as it goes. But you don't go far enough. We need to explain the American foundation that goes as far back as 1100 BC as found in First Samuel 8:7 and the two systems of government that are summarized there. The top down bureaucratic "kingdom" system which many American are now seeking, where no knowledge or effort is required, and all decisions about what is right and wrong are made for you by a bureaucrat. Compare this to the system outlined in the Declaration of Independence where the founders of this Nation were seeking to return to endowments from our Creator (the "blessings of liberty") as a National secured purpose.
    We especially need to understand that the Declaration system requires effort and especially requires knowledge of right and wrong, and therefore it is a more difficult system than the "kingdom" system where all decisions are made for us and all we have to do is sit back in ignorance. We don't even have to know right from wrong, the bureaucratic system will define their version for us. But the bedrock upon which the Declaration stands is our knowledge of right and wrong.
    We need to understand that "unalienable" means inherent characteristics that are an inseparable part of who we are, and have always existed in mankind throughout history and around the world. We need to understand that these inherent traits need to be secured by government (and that is the declared exceptional purpose for American government), and when they are an unalienable right then becomes a fundamental right. The bill of rights are all such fundamental rights.
    We need to understand that the only source of our unalienable rights is from our Creator who also gave us a list of "thou shalt not" wrongs and therefore such rights have a limit beyond which they do not exist, never have and never will. We need to understand the parallel between an unalienable right with "thou shalt not" and a fundamental right that does not exist beyond where there is a compelling need (strict scrutiny) for the government to become involved. We need to understand that when a "right" comes only from government, and not from our Creator, it may be wrongly permitted by government, but it is not a right.
    And finally, we need to be certain that those persons who hold positions of authority thoroughly understand all of the above and behave accordingly.

    Are Civics, History & Government no longer taught in public school? I ask because I homeschooled my children. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would think that the Democrats were in cahoots with Teachers Unions to finalize the subjugation of the American people!

    LOCAL GOVERNMENTS MUST TAKE BACK OUR SCHOOLS FROM STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS AND TEACH READING WRITING BASIC MATH AND HISTORY , WHICH INCLUDES THE CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS.

    I believed that many Americans like me prayed hard for President Trump to be elected as our President 2016. Every day even now I do not forget to thank God for President Trump and may he and his family be protected and blessed. Oh my God when will this "Mueller be stop".
    Maybe God will stop him very soon. God bless USA and people like you and your daughter standing up for our country. I am Filipino came here legally as a Nurse since 1969.
